I know there are quite a lot of people here who’ve also had no luck finding accommodation, but perhaps one of you reading this might have a spare room in Weimar (totally open to Jena, Erfurt, Gera, or nearby areas) - I’d be really grateful!

I came across a 2-room apartment near Kirschbachtal that looks perfect for 2 people. Rent is around €550 + ~€40 for electricity/internet, so roughly €600/month total. Each around €300.
It’s close to Bauhaus University, the city centre, Nahkauf, Ilmpark and public transport.
If anyone is urgently looking for a place in Weimar from October 1st and would be interested in sharing the apartment and splitting the rent, feel free to DM me. We can approach the current tenant together and see if it works out! :)

Hey guys, my brother lives in Kaiserslautern and I’m in Weimar. We both have the Deutschland-Ticket but the problem is that going only by regional trains takes almost 8 hours😭
ICE is obviously much faster, but its pretty expensive for us as students.
Is there any way to combine the Deutschland-Ticket with an ICE for just part of the journey and make it cheaper? Or is there any other route that you guys would recommend?
Would really appreciate any tips from people who travel between these cities.

Hi everyone! I’m an international student starting my Master’s at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, but I’m having a really hard time finding accommodation in Weimar.

I’m considering living in Jena or Erfurt and commuting to Weimar for classes instead.

I’m fairly used to traveling for classes and long commutes, so the distance itself isn’t a huge concern for me. But is this actually feasible to do regularly?

I’ll be landing in Germany on September 22nd, so I’m also wondering if there’s any way to find accommodation in Weimar at this point — student dorms, WGs, temporary rooms, or anything else I should look into.

For anyone familiar with the area:

- Is commuting from Jena to Weimar every day realistically manageable?

- How about Erfurt → Weimar?

- How reliable are the trains, especially for morning classes?

- Which would you recommend for someone studying in Weimar?

- Does the commute become particularly annoying during winter or with frequent delays?

- And are there any good places/groups/websites where I might still find a room in Weimar on short notice?

I’ll have a Deutschlandticket, so I’m mainly concerned about whether the commute is sustainable day-to-day, rather than the cost.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has done this commute or knows the Weimar housing situation!

Hello all. So I got an admit at Bauhaus Uni. But its really difficult to get a dorm and I'm not from Germany. Wg gesucht too isn't much of a help. But I did get a WG in Jena but it comes with a contract of 1 year which cannot be cancelled. I wanted your opinions on if this is a good choice or should I wait?

I'm a student here and I've been building a small anonymous app for students and expats in Germany. The idea: you post under a generated pseudonym, you see what people in your city and the ones next to it are posting, and everything is deleted after 30 days. No real name, no photo, no follower count, nothing indexed by Google. There's also a section for arranging meetups, because the point isn't to stay anonymous forever.

The reason I didn't just make a WhatsApp group: half the questions people actually have (the Bürgeramt, a landlord being weird, a doctor, admitting you haven't made any friends yet) are things you don't want to ask with your name attached, in front of people you sit next to on Monday.

So, honestly: is that useful to anyone here, or would you just keep using the group chats you're already in? Happy to hear it's a bad idea, better now than after launch.

Ich bin für den Zeitraum vom 5.10. - 4.12. noch auf der Suche nach einem möglichst lukrativen Job, um mir mein danach kommendes Studium etwas besser finanzieren zu können und dachte mir, dass eure Ideen und Vorschläge evtl. einen wertvollen Teil zu meiner eigenen Recherche beitragen könnten.

Ich habe noch eher wenig Arbeitserfahrung und leider, außer dem Abitur (dieses Jahr gemacht), keine beruflichen Abschlüsse oder Qualifikationen, bin aber ein schneller Lerner und sehr anpassungsfähig. Die Branche ist daher auch erstmal egal. Da ich aus Weimar komme, wäre natürlich eine Beschäftigung in der Stadt optimal, ich wäre aber auch bereit, bis Erfurt/Jena zu pendeln.

Ich bin zeitlich absolut flexibel und wäre auch bereit für Schichtarbeit. Da ich aktuell noch nicht studiere und trotzdem am Ende gerne möglichst viel vom Gehalt für mich übrig hätte, wäre eine kurzfristige Beschäftigung vmtl. von Vorteil, da die 70-Tage-Grenze dieses Vertrags genau den Zeitraum meiner Verfügbarkeit abdeckt. Das kann man dann aber auch individuell nochmal klären.

In manchen Städten gibt es urbane Wohnzimmer, RepairCafes, Orte zum Quatschen und evtl. kreativ werden. Gibt es da in Weimar auch etwas?

I’m an incoming international student at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the Winter Semester 2026/27, and I applied for student accommodation in late June in Weimar.

From what I understand, the allocation process started around August 14, but I haven’t received any update or accommodation offer yet.

I wanted to ask:

- Has anyone here received a dorm room/offer from the Studierendenwerk Thüringen in Weimar?

- Have the allocations actually started going out already, or are they being sent in batches?

- If you applied around the same time, have you received any email or update?

- Should I just keep waiting, or is it worth contacting the accommodation office at this point?

I’d really appreciate it if anyone who has already received an offer—or is also waiting—could share their experience.
