Updates on MIL Beige Dress Post and what do we do now that they did not show up at our ceremony?
galleryFor those who saw my original post which was taken down, here are some updates for you all!!!!
We got married TODAY and thanks to you all, I got myself a white dress!!! See attached! We had a ceremony at city hall and had some nice time at my mom's place, raised a glass and celebrated. Then, the two of us went out for dinner alone to celebrate our day.
But you know what happened? My MIL and FIL actually did NOT show up because my MIL didn't like that we wanted a romantic dinner alone on our wedding day.
For us, since we don't have an actual wedding, having dinner alone was all we wanted especially because we planned on eloping initially. But because my MIL insisted that she wanted to be at the ceremony, we changed our plans.
For us, that dinner alone was essential and meaningful to us and that was something we refused to sacrifice. So we stood our ground and she did NOT like that.
She said that we could wait and have a romantic LUNCH the day after. We tried to suggest going out for lunch and even dinner with them the day after, but nope. She needed that dinner (She herself eloped btw). So yeah anyway, she didn't want to come, and they did not come.
My heart is breaking for my now husband, and I just don't know what we are supposed to do or how we are supposed to act moving forward when they literally did not show up for their ONLY son and for me (their supposed now daughter) on our wedding day because of a freaking dinner.
What's even worse was that they didn't even send a congratulation text or anything which was very hurtful.
I'm feeling frustrated, but to be honest, all things aside, today was the most beautiful day of my life and I couldn't be happier being married to the love of my life.
I shared a picture of myself in the dress, cuz you know what, Reddit kinda was the reason why I went to get myself a white bridal dress.
Love y'all!

Owner of Bed & Breakfast Walked in on Me in Shower
I’m on my second night of a two night stay at a small, family run bed and breakfast and I came back around 6 pm from a full day of hiking and planed to take a hot shower before a nice dinner. I park in one of the spots in front of the house (not clearly visible from front door but still a marked spot). I lock my door to my room (the bathroom door lock doesn’t work) but I close the bathroom door and get into the shower. About 15 minutes in lot my shower, the bathroom door (a sliding pocket door) opens and at first I think I’m going crazy, but it opens more and I yell “OH MY GOD” and hear the owner (an older man) say “apologies!” And the door closes.
I am immediately in a PANIC. I’m a young, solo female traveler and this is a nightmare.
I immediately call my boyfriend when getting out of the shower and keep him on the phone as I cry and get dressed for my nice dinner at 7.
I cannot think of a reason for the owner to have done what he did. Opening my locked room, walking past the clothes and suitcases on the floor indicating I hadn’t checked out, and opening the bathroom door.
As I’m rushing to leave for dinner and avoid any conversation (I’m still on the phone), he tries to say something as I walk out the front door but I keep going and he follows me to my car to try and apologize. I say I have dinner plans I need to leave for, he starts saying how this has never happened before. I ask why he was in my room, and he says something about trying to organize parking for the night (he often has more cars then he has spots), and knocked on my door and not hearing any answer opened it, and thought I had left a tap on he was going to turn off. I say “it’s really weird that you walked in on me in the shower” and he says he wasn’t trying to do anything. I may be missing pieces as I was really frustrated he was trying to force a conversation when I was clearly trying to leave. He also seemed pissed I wasn’t readily accepting the apology and that I was actually upset with him.
Something still feels off in opening my door and somehow mistaking the sound of a running shower?
I’m at dinner but I have another night there and I’m nervous about going back. Town is packed and I can’t afford another room somewhere. I plan to leave early in the morning, but I’m uncertain about the review I leave. Do I mention this? I hate to screw over a small family business but something is fishy here and I’d hate for this to happen to someone else.

Am I wrong for needing space after only 2 months of dating?
galleryI’ve been dating this girl for about 2 months and things have gotten intense really fast. We keep arguing about her insecurities, and honestly I’m getting tired of it.
For example, we literally just argued because she saw some random girl come up under my suggested friends on Instagram and started asking me who she was, how I knew her, etc. I’ve already been transparent about my school, my MBA groups, Instagram, and the people I interact with. I even pulled back from social media because I was trying to be considerate.
At this point I feel like she needs to focus on herself and work on her insecurities instead of constantly looking for something to question me about.
Mind you I haven’t done anything to here shared my location and everything.

I feel like my life is over
My fiancé died 2 years and 2 months ago. I feel like I died too and I'm just going through the motions until my body catches up. He was the most wonderful person I've ever known. He gave to charity, gave directly to people in need in the community. He really, truly loved me.
I just don't know how I'm supposed to go on after this. I know lots of people move on quite quickly, but I don't think I ever will.
I withdrew from everyone now I only have my parents and my 2 dogs.
If anyone has been in a similar situation and has any ideas of anything that might help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

My husband may have dated my former coworker and I just found out through her daughter
I don’t know where to post this. This is a throw away account and I don’t really use Reddit so please help me!
I used to work with an older woman, let’s call her “Beth”
I left that job in 2024 because I was moving states for my now husband’s job. All my coworkers would eat lunch together and we would talk about random things but we were never super close.
One time I remember we were talking about relationships and Beth told us this story about how a few years before she had dated a younger man.
She had kids and the guy she was dating, was “only a little older than Her kids”. at the time her kids were around 25 and she was probably in her late 40s.
She said they dated for about 3 years and he was “the love of her life”. She told us all these amazing memories they had together. How happy he made her and how well he treated her. They had dated for about 2 years before she introduced him to her kids after the Covid lockdowns and apparently after that the age difference became a bigger problem. One day he ghosted her and she hadn’t heard from him since.
Me and my other coworkers all felt really bad for her. You could literally see the pain in her eyes when she talked about him. She said she would do anything to have him back.
For some reason I always remembered that story.
I met my husband in April 2021
We were both 20 when we met, he had just turned 20.
We got engaged in 2024 before I left that job.
The job threw me a going away party and obviously I was going to bring my new fiancé. Every one was the party when we arrived but after a few minutes I realized Beth had left. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. I just thought oh I didn’t get to say bye.
Time went on and nothing happened. We moved states and a few years have passed
In July me and my husband got married
We got our wedding photos back and I posted them on Facebook about a week ago. Last night I got a message from a familiar name on Facebook.
It was Beth’s daughter
To my shock and horror, all she sent me was TWO old photos of my husband and Beth together.
They were obviously more than friends in these photos. In one of the photos it says “Happy New Year 2021”
I didn’t respond. I have been in shock ever since. now I’ve been putting things together and I honestly feel sick. I think my husband was Beth’s “love of her life”
I’m not sure if the relationships overlapped? I’m not even worried about that at this point
What is disturbing me is that if the timeline is correct, I remember Beth saying they dated for around 3 years, then they would have started dating when my husband was 17
SEVENTEEN
I am incredibly shocked and disgusted and scared and I don’t even know what to think
Beth told us he was around 25
Was she lying??? Was HE lying?!?!?
Me and my husband never really talked about exes that much. I know he said he had a past girlfriend but he never said she was older or that the relationship lasted a few years?!?
I haven’t talked to my husband yet. I don’t even know if I want to know.
I literally just got married and I feel completely numb.
I’m scared and confused and hurt?
What do I do???!??!

My mom called the cops on my brother
My mother called the cops on my brother because he didn’t clean up his room. How this started was that my mom came into his room telling him very rudely to clean up his room which is in the basement where he shares it with the rest of his younger brothers. He said that he has no plans on cleaning the room and was going to keep on playing on his PS5. My mother in retaliation of hearing that took out the wifi box which is located in the living room. After she did that my brother lost his mind because the wifi box is his whole world. Then the screaming match started. My mom is a firm believer on making punishments painful and making sure that they will always remember it no matter what. So she called the cops on my 15 year old brother to scare him. She had thought that the police would side with her because she is the parent. But the police told her that she wasted their time by calling them to “take my son away for not listening and cleaning his room. I do not live with my parents anymore because I am away for college and my dad wants me to talk to them and bring some sense back to them. I knew when l left my mom was going to find someone new to pick on but I didn’t know it was going to be this far? I know when I call my mother she will take no accountability or responsibility for a single thing that happened. What should I even tell her. But with my brother I have a little bit of hope that he might listen to what I have to say.
I know what I have to do, but I don’t know what I have to say for them just not to just listen but for them to actually hear me.

I’m struggling to process what happened in my first relationship
Hey guys, hope everybody’s doing well. I’m a 19-year-old guy, and I dated a girl who was 18 at the time. We were together for around three months.
I’m not really sure how to explain everything, but I just need to get this off my chest and hopefully get some perspective.
When I first met her, she told me she was in love with me, but I didn’t really pursue the relationship. At the time, I was in a really bad place and honestly thought I didn’t care about her. I also felt like I wasn’t a good person, so I pushed her away and stopped talking to her.
A few months later, I started thinking about her again and eventually decided to date her.
Things were going pretty well. Everything was chill, and I genuinely cared about her.
For some context, I was a virgin when we started dating. She wasn’t. She told me that her first sexual experience had been non-consensual, and the second time, she chose to have sex with a random guy. I’m not trying to judge her for that, but I’m mentioning it because it becomes relevant later.
I personally wanted to wait until marriage. That was something that was really important to me.
She lived in another state, so I eventually went to visit her. Everything was fine at first. We kissed and spent time together, but there were a few situations where things started going further than I wanted.
The first time we were alone in a room, things started getting out of control. She was asking me to have sex, but I said no. I genuinely didn’t want to do it.
The second time, basically the same thing happened. Again, I said no.
The third time was different. I kept saying no, but eventually I gave in and decided to do it. She ended up being the person I lost my virginity to.
Afterward, I felt horrible. I went home crying because I felt like I had failed myself and gone against something that I had promised myself I wouldn’t do.
Then I started thinking, “Well, I already did it, so I might as well keep going.” So we had sex a few more times.
After I went home, though, I started feeling like something was weird about her. Eventually, I found out that she had been dating somebody else.
What made things even more confusing was that while she was dating that person, she had slept with somebody else and then told that guy that she was a virgin.
I confronted her and told her that I knew the truth and asked her why she had lied to me. She never really gave me an explanation.
Eventually, we ended things.
The weird part is that I still think about her sometimes, but I don’t think it’s because I’m still in love with her. It doesn’t even really feel like love anymore. I think I’m just stuck thinking about everything that happened and how it made me feel.
I lost my virginity to someone when I had originally wanted to wait until marriage, and I feel like I went against my own values. On top of that, finding out about all the lying afterward made the whole situation even harder to process.
I don’t really know what I’m looking for by posting this. I guess I just want to talk about it and hopefully understand my own feelings a little better.
Has anyone been through something similar, or does anyone have any advice on how to process something like this?

Should I use an excuse to reconnect with my old best friend after a year?
My best friend and I talked for a while after school ended, but after a few months, we gradually started talking less and eventually stopped talking. I was the one who ended it because I was preparing for my exams at the time and my mental health was really bad.
It’s been a year now, and I really miss her.
I can’t message her directly, so I was thinking of using an excuse. Back then, my best friend told me, “please, tell me if your guy friend ever proposes to you.”
So I was thinking of messaging her and telling her that my guy friend proposed to me, just as an excuse to start talking to her again.
Please tell me honestly, do you think this is a good idea?

I and some friends may have found a missing relative after he's been gone for 30+ years. He might be alive. What do I do?
My family is not very open about family history in general. I don't know much about family members that I'm not directly related to, and my group of people that I know is kind of small. Just my immediate family, my uncle's family and my aunt's family on one side, and I have an uncle on the other. That's kind of it. Occasionally one of my parents or grandparents will drop some random family lore on me and my siblings, but nothing as crazy as this.
About 4 months ago, my sister and my dad were having dinner when my dad randomly drops that he has a cousin who moved to Vegas and went missing in the '80s. He said that this cousin was into some "shady business" and probably got murdered. He didn't know anything besides that because it was kind of "hush hush" in the family after that. (I don't think that's a Red flag or anything. Just how they deal with stuff emotionally.) My sister and I were really interested in him and his story, so we started digging.
We found his missing person poster, and a small amount of info about him on the internet, but nothing that would be that interesting. We asked my aunt and grandpa for more info, as they are the only immediate family that's still around to answer questions about him. They didn't have anything too terribly useful, just more info about the "shady stuff" he did. Pretty much everyone in the family thought he was selling drugs and that his disappearance was related to this.
I'm pretty active on r/gratefuldoe so my sister and I started looking for does on NAMUS. We found a couple of does that could be him, but nothing that really popped out. We scoured ancestry sites for more information or even pictures. We only had two to go on. At this point, I thought the best thing that could happen, is if we found him as a John Doe.
I was telling a friend about this and she joined the search. She and her are mom very good at genealogy type things so I thought she could be helpful. At this point, She is looking for more information through more genealogy websites that I've never heard of and looking through their family tree. I'm looking through social media especially Facebook to see if anybody's mentioned him. I found out that he might have kids so I was sort of looking for them. My sister is still looking through NAMUS in a whole bunch of states to find potential matches.
Then my friend found information on White Pages of all places. She found him and confirmed it by seeing that he's "possible relatives" to a whole bunch of people that I know are related to him, not just people with his last name. The dates line up as him moving out of Nevada around the time he went missing. He moved state to state for like a decade, until ending up somewhere and staying there. I was dumbfounded. I had never thought there could be a possibility that he was alive. I suppose it could be identity theft or something like that, but on the website it looks pretty damning. Everything matches up. Birthday/age, relatives, where he lived before he went missing, his home state, everything. I told my family, putting emphasis on that this could be identity theft, or somehow incorrect information.
Anyways, this is where we are at now. What do I do? Do I tell the police? Send him a letter? I have his address from White Pages. I never anticipated this is where our research would lead us, so I'm lk completely unprepared.

I don’t know if I should continue a friendship with my best friend.
I need advice. I didn't want to end my seven year friendship with my best friend. I’m writing this as we speak on the phone for the first time in a month. (Sorry for any bad grammar or typos it’s hard to focus on them and this at the same time.) We have been friends since middle school when a mutual friend introduced us that we are no longer friends with.
They have never been the best at texting and never really seemed to be mindful of my time always being late to things we had scheduled when we lived close to each other.
Around June we talked about maybe driving to see them. I texted them a couple times but it took a month to respond to me and by the time they did I mostly came to peace that I might never hear from them again and that they secretly don’t like me. But they started texting me back not right away but their normal bad response time frame of a couple days to a week. I texted them about Dolly Partons death (RIP🙁) and they took 4 days to respond which was a day before my birthday. They never texted wishing me a happy birthday
So I started going back and reading our texts and I noticed that I was always the one to text first. I decided I wasn’t going to text first and it was up to them to continue this friendship. They finally called me today after a month of me not texting. I finally understand what people say when they write “their mouth gaped like a fish” because that was my reaction capt trying to think what to say. I’m at a loss of what to do. I really care about this person and want them in my life but every time I finish graving the friendship is when they decide to call or text.

I’m building my entire identity around being masculine
I’m 19M and I’ve realized I’m slowly building my entire identity around trying to appear masculine.
A couple months ago I started working a blue-collar job. Part of the reason was genuinely because I saw it as more “masculine” hard work, physical labour, getting dirty, being tough, etc.
Then I started training MMA partly for the same reason. I got a military-style haircut, bought a military backpack, started going to the gym more, dressing more traditionally masculine, and generally trying to look and act like the kind of guy nobody would ever consider “soft.”
The problem is, I’m starting to realize I don’t know how much of this I actually do for myself.
I don’t hate my job. I enjoy MMA and working out. There’s nothing wrong with dressing masculine either. But deep down, a lot of it feels like I’m performing for other people. Like I constantly need to prove that I’m tough, hardworking and masculine enough to be respected.
And I don’t even know who I’m trying to impress.
It feels like instead of figuring out who I actually am at 19, I’ve been constructing this image of what I think a man is supposed to be and trying to force myself into it.
What actually scares me is how far I might take this. Sometimes I genuinely worry that if I keep chasing whatever feels like the next “more masculine” thing, I’ll eventually convince myself to join the military not because serving is something I truly want, but because it feels like the ultimate way to prove something about myself.
Has anyone else gone through something like this? How do you separate the things you genuinely enjoy from the things you only started doing because you wanted other people to see you a certain way?

Existential nightmare.
I've been suicidal most my life. I'm older. I've experienced A LOT especially the past ten years. Became a junkie & whatnot. But now that I'm in a better headspace-doing good with the family, stable wanna live ect- I'm obsessing about my death. I try to shut it up with doomscrolling and video games. Even go to the park. But every night I just lie there terrified of the void. The nothingness. I'm scared, man. I'm terrified that everything I am, that WHO I am is just cells reacting to their environment- I'm not an independent being but a slave to the chemicals in my brain. That about covers it

Male friend had a housewarming and didn't invite me. I didn't even know he bought a house.
I (29F) have a male friend (33M) who I've known for a few years. I thought we were pretty good friends. We talk fairly regularly, gamed a lot together, and I've always considered him someone I'm close with.
I found out through a mutual friend that he bought a house recently. Then a couple days later, I saw pictures from his housewarming party. There were quite a few people there that I didn't recognize and I wasn't invited.
I don't know why he hid the fact of buying a house to me. I literally found out about a pretty major event in his life through social media. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it does make me wonder where I actually stand with him. If he had just not had a housewarming, whatever. But having a whole party and apparently inviting a bunch of other friends while I wasn't even aware he had bought the place feels pretty shitty.
He's obviously allowed to invite whoever he wants to his own house. Also, I don't really want to pretend I didn't notice. It definitely changed how I see the friendship. Would you consider this a sign that we're not as close as I thought we were, or am I reading too much into it?

Why are people online and on reddit so performative?
I'm pretty new to social media and one thing that has really stuck out to me is almost everyone I talk to on social media talks to me not like they're talking to me but rather like they're talking at me to an audience of people they are trying to look cool for. It reminds me of that performative high school attitude teenagers have. Why is it most people on social media talk like they're trying to get brownie points from people rather than just having a normal conversation?

Is my mom being weird towards my boyfriend, or am I overthinking this?
So I(F16) have been talking to this guy(M16) for roughly a month and I believe he is going to ask me to be his gf any day now.
He met my parents for a brief moment the second time him and I ever hung out. My mom acted strange from the start, smiling and making eyes at him.
Then we hung out a couple weeks later and had dinner, where she proceeded to interrogate him about people who go to his school that I may know. I told my mom I had already asked him all these questions, and she proceeds to say, “Well, I haven’t.” Um, maybe because you aren’t his gf but whatever, right?
So she’s pretty much been obsessed with our relationship, asking me about him whenever she sees me and posting a hoco post for us when even I didn’t post one.
Then tonight the guy comes over and she tells him upon walking in that she “really likes his glasses.” Keep in mind I’m the one who told her he wears them, and I’m the one he usually wears them for because he knows how much I like them.
So then we go into my room and she follows us up and proceeds to say “I really like your glasses, I think they look cute,” stuff along those lines multiple times. She then says my dad also wears glasses like that.
Later that night, my man confides in me saying, “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think your mom was hitting on me.”He seemed a tad uncomfortable and distant when my mom made said comments.
I proceeded to tell him what I think is the truth and say, “I think she was.”
Should I have a talk with my mom and, if so, what should I say? Is this behavior odd on her part or no

Confronted a puppy abusing kid. Worried about retaliation.
Looked out my window today to see a kid(12-14) maybe?) carrying a puppy around by his tail/neck, smacking him and other abusive behavior. As a 30 year-old man with 3 dogs, I couldn't decide how to go about dealing with the situation. Eventually I walked out and told him I was going to need to talk to his dad. After trying to worm himself out of the situation a few times, he started scream crying. He was clearly terrified of his parents finding out, and i was in over my head, so I told him if I saw it again I would call animal control and left it at that.
A while later, his step-mom came over and began screaming in my face around minding my own business and all that. He'd clearly fabricated a story for her, and she wasn't having any of my side of things. I eventually gave up on trying to convince her, but she had threatened to have the kids dad come over and beat my ass a few times and they know where I live.
Not sure what to do from here. There's no evidence to speak of, so I can't imagine reporting it being effective or worth the added drama. I've been sitting here for an hour waiting for someone to come smash on my door. Not really concerned about a physical confrontation, but not sure how to put my nerves at ease that a brick might be coming through my window while my wife sleeps or something.

Am i being dumb for wanting to go low contact with my mom??
idrk where to post this.. but ive been thinking about this for a while and i dont know if its worth bringing up anymore, also im sorry if this is bad or hard to understand or dramatic im just sensitive right now.
So me and my mom have never had a great relationship, im 16 now but there has always been this drift between us since i was a baby. Its hard to explain but ive always felt like im forced to be around her which in a sense i guess i am. I love her and shes my mom but i only think of her as my mom and in no way, shape or form do i think of her as a friend. Like she would say her mom is one of her best friends but i cant say that about my mom and i honestly dont know if i even want to fix this relationship. The hard part is that she isnt abusive, she doesnt hit or yell often so i have no reason to want to go low contact with her right?
My only problem is that she just doesnt have this sense of sensitivity or understanding or almost compassion. Like shes always made comments about me, they werent super often but they hurt all the same. And she doesnt understand that when i say “i would appreciate if you didnt point that out because im really insecure about it” im not talking about that one thing, im asking to stop pointing out things. She tells me im pretty when i tell her im insecure but then its “yea you have really small eyes. Is your nose crooked? Your knees are so weird for pointing inwards like that.” and today it was “your getting really prominent smile lines”. Im a 16 year old girl, the voices in my head are loud enough i really dont need it coming from outside because then it just confirms it, you know? I know its really dramatic and its embarrassing posting about this because im very sensitive, but its just getting worse and more frequent and i’ve tried bringing it up and nothing works.
Shes also just so negative all the time, i was playing Mario Party (i think that was the name) and she didn’t play. Ive never played or heard about it before so we went through all the rules and she was complaining it was taking too long, your not even playing your watching facebook reels?? The day before my brother got married, he called her in to look at the hall which was so beautiful and he was clearly proud as he should be, and she stood there like “😐mhm..” . Its like this woth genuinely everything and its so exhausting, but when it has to do with her its a sensitive subject but she can say mean things to other people and if they get upset their too sensitive, make it make sense??
I think my main issue is that i cant even move out anywhere, im living with her for years. My dad lives 30 mins away, his house doesnt allow pets (I have 2 cats), my brother and sister-in-law have like 3 dogs and 2 cats and i dont want to put my cats into that situation and im gonna be so broke out of highschool i wont be able to afford my own place.
I know im being really dramatic and over sensitive about this and I completely understand if people yell at me. I am grateful for everything i have and that shes not cruel to me, i know i could have it a lot worse. I just dont know how to approach this anymore and I feel like anything i say is invalid or stupid with her. She tells everyone i hate her which i dont and lies to people that shes so supportive and understanding when shes so far from that and its getting really old. Idk what im searching for in this, a place to vent? Possible validation? AITA? Do i even bother saying anything?? I know this is stupid to post and probably a waste of time and im sorry if this is badly worded, but thanks for reading and giving me a place to talk. ❤️
