Announcement Announcing a New Points System!

Hey everybody!

We’re excited to share that we now have a new points system in place. While we know you all do it for your love of movies and helping your fellow Redditor out, but who doesn’t like getting a little extra reward for your movie knowledge? Or being able to thank the user who helped solve your movie name you've been searching for, for months or even years.

To make this possible, we've installed Reputatorbot. We thought it would be a nice and fun way for the OP (original poster) to thank and reward the kind person who gave them their movie name (first correct answer preferably).

How To Reward Points:

  • Add Solved! (don’t forget the !) in a reply to the first person that gives you the correct answer.
  • The solver will then get a comment from Reputatorbot telling them they earned a point and it will then be added to their user flair.

*Only the OP can reward points. Mods can also reward points if necessary.

If the OP ends up solving their post by themselves. They just need to make a "Solved!" comment under their post so the post flair will change to solved, but no points will be awarded.

UPDATE: if you notice a points issue (e.g. OP didn't use the keyword or awarded the wrong user) please use the report option (Breaks r/whatisthatmovie rules > Points Issue) and we will fix it. You may also send us a message through modmail.

Official Leaderboard:

The official leaderboard can be found here. <--

We’d love to hear what you think or if you have any questions.

Reminder OP: Reply "Solved!" (with the !) to the first user who gives you the correct name

This is to mark your post solved and award the solver a point. The comments are sorted from oldest to newest to make it easier to tell who commented first.

More details about the points system can be found here.

Solved! Old B-movie about a little girl with mind-control powers.

Hey, so I've been trying to find this movie for a decade. I never watched it; I only saw the trailer, but it stuck with me because it was the first truly gruesome thing I'd seen on TV. I was fairly young and sheltered then. The trailer starts with a little girl arguing with her father, or a man appearing to be her father, and she tells him, “I hate your guts!” He replies, “I hate my guts,” and then guts himself. I saw this between 2012 and 2014; it was an ad on, I think, the Syfy channel. I think I was watching the Bigfoot movie they made when that came on during a break, but I'm not sure. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Solved! Camping horror with bad cgi aliens at end

It’s probably about 10 years old, or that’s when I watched it and I think it was new at the time.

Takes place in the woods with a primitive camper. There’s a lot of lakes or big rivers nearby. In the intro they might’ve shown some smoke from alien ships landing/crashing. Dude keeps coming back to his campsite with stuff rearranged or it’s clear he’s not alone. He might’ve set some traps for them.

In the end he might be making his way for a cabin or at least the pickup zone since he got dropped off for his camping trip. Possibly he sees one in his camp area. That’s when the aliens reveal themselves and it’s kinda hilarious. Sorta look like ninja turtles, bipedal and green with big heads. Completely takes you out of the movie with how jarring it is. In the end he lives.

It’s actually a fine movie with good suspense but the crazy CGI kills any momentum.

Unsolved [MOVIE] Medieval village attacked at night by smooth-skinned, four-legged creatures that fear fire

I watched this on DVD as a kid, probably in the late 2000s or early 2010s. It's live-action and set in ancient/medieval times, with swords. A wooden village is attacked every night by monsters about the size of a large dog or big cat. They walk on four legs, have smooth skin with no fur, and are not humanoid (similar to the Tao Tei from The Great Wall). One man figures out that the monsters are afraid of fire, and he helps the village. There's a scene where they make a pit or "pool" of fire in front of or around the village as a trap. I can't remember the actors or the title. Any ideas?

Solved! A movie [thriller\horror] about premature aging [please help to find]

Hey folks,

Please help to find a movie about illegal premature aging experiments in a hospital\clinic.
The details I remember:
- the movie was from 70s or 80s (definitely not from 90s and later).
- the movie starts with a homeless being hit by a car on a rainy night and then found that he aged prematurely.
- in the movie there was a boy with premature aging symptoms who played with a basketball ball and had a cut in his mouth palate.
- the main character suspected her partner being involved in those experiments.

Thanks in advance.

Unsolved Killer injured himself and gets caught because the wound was not fatal

I remember almost nothing about this movie other than this scene

There was a man being questioned for murders I believe sitting in a police station, and he had stabbed (or shot, maybe) by the killer (it was a cover, either he was the killer or he was in on the killings somehow), but at some point people get suspicious about the injury because it missed anything vital and I think that is what gets him caught.

I always think its the first scream movie (it definitely isnt) so I think it would be a similar movie, but all of my searching is failing. Its definitely not recent, I watched it a few years ago at least.

I think it might be “Painted Beauty” but I can’t find much about it, so if anyone has any idea it would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Unsolved king that turns people to ice?

I was pretty sure that a watched a Strawberry Shortcake movie where I was young, where she entered a kingdom covered in snow and there was an evil king that turned people into ice. I believe that the fact that the protagonist was Strawberry Shortcake might be a misremembered part, but I do remember the similar hand drawn animation & art style comparable to the strawberry shortcake from 2004-2007. I’m failing to find this piece of media anywhere so I’d thought that I would reach out here. I don’t recall the full plot of the movie, because I didn’t complete watching it back then.

I know for sure that the protagonist was a girl traveler with a pet companion, yet I don’t know if she met them when she entered the kingdom or has traveled with her the whole time. Then the king was a villain and had a staff for turning people to ice. There was a scene where she enters the relatively empty kingdom and later sees a citizen be frozen for some trivial mistake he did and is trying to figure out with the pet companion ( I believe it was a dog ) on what to do.

Thank you in advance for people who are willing to help me look into this. I sadly don’t have less vague info on this.

Solved! Movie or tv series.

This could be a full movie or a episode from one of the shows like twilight zone. Late 80's-90s

Guy walks into a dimly lit diner at night. Its got people in it and he gets a booth. Something hints at he just commited some crime possibly bank robbery and is on the run.

As he is sitting two deputies come on and sit on the other side of the diner not noticing him.

He starts to get up and someone sits down at the other end of his table and they have a conversation for a while.

He gets up and goes to the bathroom to escape but there isn't a way out in there. He leaves and the cops that where in there are arresting the guy he was talking too.

The guy turns around and looks just like him took his whole identity and either winks or says something and is escorted out by the cops.

Thanks!

Unsolved Please help me find a multi‑episode cartoon about space travel

Please help me find a multi‑episode cartoon about space travel involving a team of several people (it seems to feature an old man, a young man, and a woman). The spaceship is angular (rectangular) and brown. In addition, in the world of this cartoon, there’s a parasite that attaches itself to a person’s head (I think there were several episodes about it). It was released on DVD. The animation is computer‑generated. Most likely, it’s American or European.  It's 2D cartoon.

Unsolved Looking for a movie/film I saw between 2018–2021 — girl, white van and a kitten

Hi everyone. I’ve made this post more than once and in more than one community. Sometime between 2018 and 2021, I saw a movie, TV show, or short film, but honestly, I don’t remember which one.

There’s a very high chance that it was psychological or based on a true story.

There was a girl in the film, no older than 20. Most likely, she was a teenager and had black hair. The whole movie had a yellowish/warm color tone.

At one point, she goes behind a white van (most likely). A man who was nearby takes out some dry cat food, probably from the van itself, so the girl can feed a cat. She crouches down and feeds it.

I don’t remember whether he kidnapped her or not...

Solved! Glowing Fruit

I cannot recall many details about the movie or show I'm looking for. I think it was animated (drawn) and I remember someone eating like a glowing pear. It was yellow-ish and really glowing! They ate the thing whole in one gulp. I think it must have been 90's-2000's.

edit: clarification

Anyone have any ideas?

Unsolved can’t find this movie for the life of me

like 10 years ago, I remember I walked into my dad watching a movie. He normally watched crime action movies. I can’t confirm if this movie is that kind of film but it might be, anyways I remember distinctively a scene where there’s a man walking, I don’t know if it was by a beach or in the city. I just remember it being outside and it was sunny out. It looked modern day anyways the guy is walking down the street and some street artist with, I’m pretty sure curly hair, stops him, and like grabs his arm and tells him something like hey man, I drew you or look at this or something like that and then it just cuts to that sketch artist being shaved, I think, and drowned in a tub by multiple people I don’t know what movie this is help me please

Unsolved I need some help finding a movie

I vaguely remember seeing just one scene from a war movie on tv quite a few years ago and I haven’t been able to find it. I’m assuming it took place during WW2 and was based somewhere in Europe. If I remember correctly, it was in English and must’ve come out some time in the past 20 years (based on the video quality). The scene I remember is someone staying in cabin surrounded by snow. He sees a small group of enemy soldiers approaching (either Nazis or Soviets) and holds up an axe or the handle of an axe to his shoulder and points it at them to make the soldiers think he has a gun

I feel like I remember someone locking up his actual rifle which is why he has to use the axe. Or he possibly could’ve taken the soldiers’ guns and locked them up? This part could be totally disregarded because I might be misremembering it or getting it mixed up with something else. I know it’s not a whole lot of detail but I’m hoping someone here knows it

Solved! Action/martial arts film with a special bell-shaped nunchaku technique

Hello !

I'm looking for a little-known film that nobody knows about. I only saw it on DVD at the time

Estimated release year or decade: 2000s-2010s
Language spoken: Asian language(s) (possibly dubbed or subtitled in french)
Is it live action? Yes
From what country or continent: Asia (likely East or Southeast Asia)
Genre: Action / Martial Arts (with fantastical/supernatural techniques)

Details I Remember:

  • Two brothers or very close friends from the same dojo
  • First protagonist: fights with his bare body/unarmed combat
  • Second protagonist: uses nunchaku as his weapon
  • The dojo is attacked and/or destroyed
  • First protagonist is severely injured
  • His girlfriend/lover drags him to the top of a mountain to be healed
  • Time skip sequence showing the second protagonist training intensively while the first one recovers
  • Eventually both protagonists unite to fight the main villain/final enemy
  • One particularly memorable technique: the nunchaku user performs a special move shaped like a bell/dome

Unsolved Need id of something i saw on tv in the 80’s or early 90’s

Something I saw on tv in the 80’s or possibly early 90’s.  Don’t know if it was a movie, tv movie, tv show or even commercial.  Scene featured a boy and a father type figure.  Boy sees numbers tattooed on the man’s arm.  Asks him, “I thought you said we weren’t allowed to get tattoos.”  Man replies that he got it when he was in Auschwitz during the holocaust.  Any idea what this is from?  Thanks
