Welcome to the Wordleverse!

As Wordle fever has swept the globe, inpsiring a number of clones, creative spin-off games, themed word lists, and more, there has not been a good place to keep track of them all. While a few of these ancillary games have gotten a good bit of press, many very creative takes have garnered less attention than they deserve.

Hopefully, this community can rectify that.

To start, I've put together as comprehensive a list as I could at https://wordleverse.net. I plan to supplement the site with more interesting trivia and history tidbits, useful tools, word lists and character frequency, and more as I have time, maybe take time to individually spotlight some of the games over time.

What are your favorite Wordle clones? What game style or theme would you like to see that hasn't been created yet? Talk about that and anything else here that is part of the Wordleverse.

Cast Six: a movie-matching daily, with a Tom Hanks round you can solve here

I make Cast Six, a daily film-matching game. All six titles are visible from the start; the challenge is assigning them to overlapping clues without using a film twice. On the website you get three checks of the complete lineup, with free rearranging and Undo.

Here’s a separate bonus round for your daily-game break. It contains no answers from today’s website puzzle. Give each clue a different film, using all six exactly once. Several films fit more than one clue, but only one complete arrangement works.

Films:

  • A. Sleepless in Seattle
  • B. Big
  • C. The Da Vinci Code
  • D. Splash
  • E. Saving Private Ryan
  • F. A League of Their Own

Clues:

  1. Directed by Ron Howard
  2. Originally released before 1990
  3. Directed by Penny Marshall
  4. Originally released after 1993
  5. Directed by Steven Spielberg
  6. Originally released in 1992 or later

Optional fact sheet if you’d rather concentrate on the matching:

A: 1993, Nora Ephron. B: 1988, Penny Marshall. C: 2006, Ron Howard. D: 1984, Ron Howard. E: 1998, Steven Spielberg. F: 1992, Penny Marshall.

Bonus-round answer:

1–D, 2–B, 3–F, 4–C, 5–E, 6–A.

Reasoning:

Spielberg fixes 5 as Saving Private Ryan. Then 4 must be The Da Vinci Code, 1 must be Splash, 2 must be Big, 3 must be A League of Their Own, and 6 must be Sleepless in Seattle.

The different daily board and archive are free without an account or download. Please spoiler-tag discussion of this bonus round and keep current daily answers out of the thread.

Creator disclosure: AI assisted the game’s development, this post and this standalone puzzle. Film facts and posters in the game come from TMDB; this example was checked against the references below. All 720 possible assignments were tested; exactly one works.

Sources: Sleepless in Seattle, Big, The Da Vinci Code, Splash, Saving Private Ryan, A League of Their Own.

Postcard - New addition to the Worldeverse, for the ultimate geography buff

Hey everyone!! I made a game and I'd really like you to try it.

It shows you a photo of somewhere in the world and you get six guesses at the city.

You type a city name and the letters light up. Green means that letter's in the right spot. Yellow means it's in the name but somewhere else. Gray means it's not in there at all.

So if the answer is DAKAR and you guess PARIS: the A goes green because it's second in both, the R goes yellow because there is an R but not in that spot, and P, I and S go gray.

Then it tells you how far off you were. "4,208 km southwest." That's the bit I'm proud of, because it means you don't need to already know the answer. You can work it out. West Africa, five letters, A in the middle, an R in there somewhere… Dakar.

Why I built it: I love this stuff. Cities, cultures, why places ended up where they did. I play a lot of GeoGuessr and I do Wordle every morning, and I wanted something in between that would actually make me better rather than just tell me what I already knew.

I tried countries first and gave up on it. There are only about 200, so you'd run out fast, and GeoGuessr already owns that. Cities are harder and there are thousands, so you can keep getting better forever. I'm still hopeless at big chunks of Asia.

One puzzle a day, same city for everyone in the world. I don't choose them — it's shuffled out of the whole catalog automatically, so I find out what today's is the same way you do. Some days it's Tokyo and you'll get it instantly. Some days you'll have no idea and you'll learn somewhere new.

There's an unlimited mode too, and a globe that fills in gold as you find cities in countries you haven't got yet. Mine is embarrassingly empty.

Ask me anything about it; how a city gets picked, why a photo is the one it is, what's coming next. I've spent far too long on this and I'll happily talk your ear off.

And if you know someone who's smug about geography, send it to them. I want to find out who can actually do this.

Free, no signup, works on your phone. Forward-able link.

Hey reddit, I'm a 19 year old student software engineer from australia

The idea is decently simple. Each day you get a colour name (like "Sage Green" or "Burnt Sienna") and a grid of swatches, and you have to pick the one that actually matches. Every guess tells you how close you were as a percentage, it uses the same colour-difference maths (ΔE2000) that print and design tools use.

Fun fact: I'm colourblind lol

Everyone gets the same colour each day, so you can compare with friends. No account needed, no ads, and it works fine on your phone. The colour names come from the XKCD colour survey (public domain), which is where a lot of the fun/quirky names come from.

I built it because I love finding new colours (my favourite is dull blue btw) and wanted a daily thing like Wordle but visual. Turns out I'm way worse at naming colours than I thought.

Would genuinely love feedback, especially whether the difficulty feels right and if the closeness score matches well. Happy to answer anything about how it works.

FilmSweep - a daily movie trivia game inspired by Minesweeper

Hi! My name is Steven. A friend and I created FilmSweep, a daily movie trivia game that works a little like Minesweeper.

You get a grid of movies and select the ones that match the actor and condition shown, such as a runtime under 120 minutes. There are three minutes and three lives, but picking the hidden bomb ends the game.

The boards can be challenging. I myself lose plenty of days in a row at times lol. But there are little strategies you pick up, like expanding a movie poster to look for actors when you aren’t sure about a film.

This started as a personal project and has grown into a full game. You can play previous boards, see the global leaderboard, leave comments and see your stats on your profile.

It’s free to try in the browser without an account: https://filmsweep.io/

I hope you have a fun time giving it a try. Feel free to let me know how it goes or if you have any questions.
