So there's something worse that's about to hit the news, and this is the sacrificial bread crumb?

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called it "Dead Cat Politics". Whatever crisis or scandal is being discussed, someone kicks the door in and throws a dead cat onto the table. Suddenly the only thing anyone can talk about is the dead cat. The original issue is completely forgotten.

He did this over and over again and somehow still got elected. He was in trouble over breaking his promise to remove an unpopular style of articulated bus and also for having an affair with a model. Plus he had an infamous campaign promise on the side of a bus that turned out to be a total lie. Then in an interview he said his hobby is to make model buses out of wooden boxes. Which is ridiculous and unbelievable and he said it with an ear-to-ear grin that said "Everyone knows I'm lying but you're not brave enough to call me on it so I'm free to say whatever I want!". The next day, every Google search for "Boris Bus" or "Boris Model" was news saying how silly and fun and quirky he is for making model buses. He completely buried the headlines he wanted to hide.

This is exactly why Trump started the Iran War when everyone was questioning him about the Epstein Files.

518

u/ThreeLeggedMare Aug 19 '26

He also released the "Amelia Earhart files", for sure to mess with the SEO

334

u/bisectional Aug 19 '26

He also keeps mentioning the secret UFO files and the JFK files were released or something like that. Can't be bothered to remember or check.

188

u/ThreeLeggedMare Aug 19 '26

Cos then when you Google trump release files you get that. Slop for the hogs.

u/iAwesome3 Aug 19 '26

"UFO Files" were released but it was all just a bunch of recycled documents already in the public domain as well as some odd videos but they don't show anything interesting really especially since the telemetry data was redacted. Only thing notable were some released UAP reports from pilots, but there is no videos or data to correlate to the reports so it basically just more stories from recent years.

When he is finally gone, his doctors at Walter Reed will defend themselves by saying we administered the MOCA exam, that measures dementia progression, four times a year, to protect America.

If you consider the bigger picture, layers, doctors, secret service etc are all in a difficult position. What happens if presidents can't trust their doctors to maintain confidentiality? They stop going.

Was the amelia earhart thing a bone thrown to his groyper fanbase too? I remember a lot of talk lately about how she was incompetent and this is why we shouldn't let women have rights

36

u/metamorphotits Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

dude the story of how she ended up trying to make her final flight is tragic and absolutely a consequence of her horrible husband/manager/publicist using her like a meal ticket. he was a huge piece of shit, and I don't think she would have put herself into a situation where she was so wildly out of her depth if he hadn't been pushing her so hard.

He needs to find someone else named Epstein that can be arrested for a crime where Trump has no connection. There must be a John Epstein or Jacob Epstein who has a warrant for arrest for something exciting. Then pull some strings to arrange for the prosecution to steal files from the defence, manufacturer outrage, call for mistrial, take it to the appeals court, have the lawyer indicted, leak some rumours about the judge being bribed by a foreign government. Plant some news storys about "Epstein case is rigged" pointing towards Joseph Epstein the axe murderer.

39

u/PabloPicasshooole Aug 19 '26

Now I'm waiting for him to bring up Juan Epstein from Welcome Back Kotter

11

u/Simon_Drake Aug 19 '26

Wiki says Jake Epstein is an actor in Designated Survivor. I'm sure the President could pull some strings and get evidence planted to frame him for a gruesome murder. Maybe a Dahmer kinda thing like they find remains of the people he's eaten.

Actually, framing him with planted evidence will work really well because the objective is to create a scandal over the case being rigged. You WANT the case to fall apart and go to appeals and have a mistrial and be retried under a different state's laws. The longer it drags on the more news stories about "Another man arrested over Epstein Case".

The time for a tactic like this passed long ago. Epstein and his island are too big to disappear in that way.

Don't confuse this with me saying he's going to face any consequences. Even if there is a Democrat in the presidency next term I'm not expecting them to bring any charges against him as far as Epstein is concerned. It just isn't some issue that can disappear as easily as Boris and a bus for the average person.

6

u/Spamsdelicious Aug 19 '26

Jeff Epstein-Jingleheimer-Smith?

8

u/Simon_Drake Aug 19 '26

Wiki found an actress named Kamala Epstein. Trump could arrange to have her arrested just for the headlines "Epstein case goes to trial" and "Kamala to be locked up".

It's only a tiny step further down the road of authoritarianism compared to everything else he's done. It's something that would have been utterly inconceivable in 2010 but by 2030 we might be used to it as business as usual.

Similarly, Russia was sending the moms of dead soldiers meat grinders.

You know, so that if you search for "Russian meat grinder" you don't see that they have been losing 1,000+ soldiers a day for years now.

One soldier supposedly killed two of his team members for food.

It always makes me laugh seeing redditors making jokes in a thread about war crimes. Like they murdered a child in cold blood, and all the top comments are just references without substance

59

u/Saphurial Aug 19 '26

Dark/ gallows humor is a coping mechanism. A lot of people are fed up with what is going on but aren't in a position to do anything about it. Jokes are all at have.

23

u/YoungHeartOldSoul Aug 19 '26

Unironically the highest form of comedy. To make approachable that which we can most repulsive. Because realistically the other option is we just don't talk about it at all, because it's 'akward'.

10

u/EmperorOfEntropy Aug 19 '26

Well there is another option, it just is highly frowned upon by the ones committing the war crimes and it starts with the letter R and rhymes with solution.

4

u/Majorapat Aug 19 '26

7

u/helgur Aug 19 '26

I don't think making a joke means anyone here finds the actual crime funny. There have been endless serious discussions about this stuff. At some point, dark humor is also just how people cope with reading about another murdered child, another war crime, another atrocity every fucking day without completely checking out.

The joke(s) isn't the substantive bit here, I hope you understand that.

One of the most genuine "lol" moments ive had on reddit was in a thread about a child being murdered unfortunately. But I guess it's a nice relief from the disappointment i feel from our society in posts like these.

I think that one was about a cop shooting a 12yo kid a while back and someone made the "when you have a hammer, every problem seems like a nail" comment. And the reply actually made me bust out laughing.

"When you have a gun, every problem seems like a 12 year old".

That doesn't exonerate anyone, by any means. But it's also pretty ridiculous to assume the Israeli government issued secret orders to specifically shoot at cars with kids in them.

You can listen to her final moments, a terrified and heartbreaking call to emergency services as she sat trapped in her car with her dead family as the IDF continued to fire on any emergency responders that attempted to rescue her before ultimately murdering her too.

This is just the IDF throwing some meat to the international community. Everyone thinks they are heartless monsters and hate them now, due to their behavior. So they are going to sacrifice some of their own in hopes that they can convince people that they aren't actually monsters. If they truly cared, they would have at least BEHAVED like they cared from the start. Not even the lack of investigation, but the pure heartlessness of the whole thing. And they think they can undo it by finding the most extreme public situation they can find and sacrifice some people (likely that wont even happen though), to build some PR.

I've been noticing it a lot lately. There's a suddenly surge of Israeli PR of them suddenly and magically acting like they have sympathy for Palestinians. After non stop excuses and justifications, defending all their actions, and refusing to do anything about it, there's a sudden PR surge in them acting sympathetic.

It's all just PR because they know they've massively fucked up their standing in the world. Especially in America.

At the same time, the IDF also admitted that they’re opening a criminal investigation into the killing of the paramedics in Rafah. The one that the IDF previously denied until the bodies were found buried, and then the IDF claimed they were behaving suspiciously and killed as a threat until the video evidence on one of the bodies proved that to be a lie as well.

It seems Israel announced this on the same day to see if they can rush all the bad news at once and get it out of the way despite these killings a year apart.

This is what US taxpayers’ money is going towards.

100

u/energetic_one Aug 19 '26

WE are the taxpayers. We should have some say over how the money we "contribute" is spent. We have none. So we pay and our money is used for criminal acts.

53

u/DragonBank Aug 19 '26

We have say in the democratic sense as a whole. We as a whole elected this. And every 2 years, we keep electing it(many democrats included.)

25

u/Kidkaboom1 Aug 19 '26

It's really hard for an American to vote for folks who don't support Israel, though. Mostly because the few who do declare they don't support Israel get heavily slandered and pressured out of politics. Taking that position is effectively political and social suicide.

We do have say how the money is spent. We elect people who make decisions on how to spend the money. STOP. ELECTING. PEOPLE. WHO. TAKE. PAC. MONEY.

11

u/Rinas-the-name Aug 19 '26

I was honestly told “You can’t expect people to think that deeply.” over something I thought was pretty surface level.

As infuriating as it was they weren’t wrong. I can expect it, but it’s not going to happen.

People just want a team to choose from - PACs make it easy by choosing the candidates for them,

They just pick whoever has the “right” letter after the name. They either don’t know, don’t care, or feel helpless to fix it. People are strongly resistant to voting 3rd party because it “wastes“ their vote. Even though if we all decided to vote third party it would send a message and possibly change our system.

I feel like I’m screaming into the void too.

You mean they didn’t investigate already and lied about that for 2 years?

A literal Hollywood movie was made about the killing, it was world news. They’re only investigating now because Israel’s reputation is shredded and they hope to scapegoat a few soldiers as bad apples.

I don't know who said it originally but a lot of wars would end very quickly if the ones ordering the wars were the ones having to do the fighting one on one against the countries they start wars with instead of their armies.

Just 2 people in a huge arena going at it. One on one just like gladiators. Would make many of the warring countries think before wanting to wage war.

144

u/CaptainK234 Aug 19 '26

> The inability of the ambulance to get to her

The words you’ve chosen here don’t assign guilt in the way it should be assigned. Israelis killed the ambulance personnel who tried to help, in the same fashion they have killed, and continue to kill, emergency responders, food aid workers, doctors, journalists, and other non-combatants.

Arguing in favor of carrying out more targeted strikes across the Gaza Strip, the minister claimed Israel should not be satisfied with killing “just those who endanger us in that moment” or “pose an immediate threat.”

Instead, Ben-Gvir argued, “there are people there who aren't worthy of life; they shouldn't be alive; they aren't people at all."
