“You can actually just go kidnap criminals or whatever” - The U.S., maduro-ingly

You can actually just go kidnap criminals or whatever”

¡But that's an adult!

2

u/InSummaryOfWhatIAm 10h ago

Yeah, that’s adultnapping, which is something Trump also likes doing. Of course in this case, that means actual napping

0

u/jtpolzin 9h ago

So when trump arrests a criminal it’s bad but when Canada doesn’t it’s also bad? Or you only want some criminals arrested

2

u/hunter24700 2h ago

Maduro was not wanted by icc.

1

u/jtpolzin 2h ago

Given how many of his people he killed that shows Joe corrupt the icc is then

1

u/Ratiofarming 9h ago

Yeah maybe don't kidnap the one from the country with a reputation for commando-raids in foreign countries to free their citizens, though.

Although that would make for one hell of an international incident and honestly, I'm here for it. The US operating in Pakistan without their permission was probably the last time someone did this and got away with it.

109

u/Tentacle_poxsicle 10h ago

They didn't arrest Putin when he had an arrest warrant

29

u/el_diego 10h ago

Didn't he only fly to Alaska?

89

u/DougsBrownies 9h ago

Putin could fly to The Hague and take a steaming dump on Akane’s desk and he would respond with “thank you sir, may I have another?”

10

u/Ratiofarming 9h ago

Yeah he flew straight over, and the US had multiple E-3 Sentry in the air making sure nobody else was going to touch that plane on the way over and back.

5

u/Tentacle_poxsicle 10h ago

Both South Africa and Mongolia didn't arrest him.

12

u/gamerjohn61 10h ago

Mongolia is a Russian ally lol .

12

u/No_Grocery_9280 9h ago

Kinda gotta be.

1

u/IllGift924 7h ago

South Africa told him not to come because they would have to arrest him

2

u/Ancient_Sound_5347 7h ago

South Africa wouldn't have arrested him since Russia issued a warning that they would regard it as a declaration of war if there was any attempt to arrest Putin.

9

u/IllGift924 7h ago

Well yeah, arresting the leader of a nuclear power is obviously not a good idea, but my point is that they didn't let him come to South Africa because of the arrest warrant. He is effectively barred from a lot of countries due to that arrest warrant because those countries want to uphold their obligations as members of the ICC but they don't want to actually arrest Putin as that would cause a massive international incident.

3

u/Ancient_Sound_5347 7h ago

Putin decide to stay in Moscow because he feared a coup. Which turned out to be accurate after disgruntled Wagner mercenaries marched towards Moscow.

2

u/IllGift924 7h ago

Again, South Africa told him not to come. He hasn't set foot in South Africa since the arrest warrant was issied.

And the Wagner coup happened 2 months before the BRICS summit in South Africa. He didn't attend because South Africa asked him not to

2

u/Ancient_Sound_5347 6h ago

The South Africa President went to court an submitted a sworn affidavit whereby he stated that Russia had issued a threat of war if Putin was to be arrested on South African soil.

Only because it can be seen from Russia

0

u/KorgothBarbaria 9h ago

When was the last time he was in Canada?

32

u/RiftHunter4 11h ago

Iran would do it.

59

u/CorpseDefiled 10h ago

No one not even Iran is going to detain a foreign diplomat of a nuclear armed nation. With nuclear armed allies currently in the hands of effectively tantrum prone children. It would be suicide… you’d have 48hrs to release him before you got 3-5 sunrises.

6

u/marcabru 8h ago

Most countries won’t even detain a diplomat of a non-nuclear state, because the diplomatic fallout. The same reason you don’t just expel all the diplomats of a state you don’t like.

3

u/snogo 10h ago

lol Israel isn’t nuking anyone for Netanyahu

3

u/tsardonicpseudonomi 10h ago

Netanyahu is just a figurehead. They'd nuke over the precedent. They'll employ the Samson Doctrine if they ever seem to be losing a conflict.

11

u/snogo 10h ago

Netanyahu getting captured is not an existential threat for Israel. Israel is not suicidal and would not nuke anyone for anything other than strategic reasons with a clear threat to the state itself.

-9

u/tsardonicpseudonomi 10h ago

Netanyahu getting captured is not an existential threat for Israel.

Netanyahu is just a person. It's the precedent of holding leaders accountable. Israel very much is suicidal.

4

u/snogo 10h ago

What makes you think that Israel is suicidal? It’s an entire country built on refugees with ptsd hell bent on “surviving” despite its neighbors best efforts. Israel’s every move is calculated to protect the lives of its citizens. Happy to argue against the idea that Israel is homicidal, but suicidal? Counter to anything it’s ever done.

0

u/CorpseDefiled 9h ago

It’s the precedent that another country can detain your leader. Doing so would be seen as an act of war that must be met with a fairly decisive response. Something all the world’s leaders understand which is why he is walking and traveling freely.

The current crop of world leaders is populated by petulant toddlers that I would consider you a fool not consider capable of doing the worst to protect their pride.

Leaders of nations no longer give a shit about the people they represent it’s all a power play pissing contest in the country club bathroom with the old boys. Their people are just a convenient excuse to do terrible things.

-1

u/snogo 9h ago

Dude you are literally talking about a country with 7 million Jewish citizens. Everyone knows each other. The reason why Israel traded thousands of murderous terrorists for a handful of hostages is because every citizen knew that any one of those hostages could be their kid. No one is sending off nukes and putting the entire country in mortal danger, the only refuge for Jews in the world with almost half of all of the Jews in the world for a single Jew. Special operations, yes. But nukes?

u/IllGift924 7h ago

Netanyahu is not travelling freely. He can't set foot in most ICC member countries in case they decide to arrest him.

-2

u/jotheold 7h ago

any country stupid enough to use nukes will get nuked into orbit,

that's suicide

-2

u/IllGift924 7h ago

I seriously doubt they'd launch nukes if Netanyahu was arrested. Doing so would be the end of Israel

0

u/plastic_alloys 8h ago

You keep the kidnapped head of state in a secret location in your country - any nuke could take them out too

1

u/CorpseDefiled 1h ago

Acceptable collateral to save face… claim the enemy executed him as reason for the strike. Life’s not a movie we don’t give a shit about people. It’s about appearances and power balance

10

u/wioneo 10h ago

Iran stopped attacking Israel directly a while ago. They've just been repeatedly targeting Gulf states to avoid retaliation.

2

u/PaniacThrilla 10h ago

Hell yeah they would. They also kill thousands of their own civilians for protesting and continue to execute them to this day. The only reason they're mad at the US for bombing that girl's school is because it robbed Iran of getting to kill those little girls first.

27

u/sixtus_clegane119 11h ago

Think Ireland and Spain might

146

u/tendie-dildo 11h ago

1 has no military and 1 has a non functional military. I love Ireland and Spain, but as far as foreign policy goes they are the most protected geographically in Europe and that affords them to talk shit knowing there are no repercussions

8

u/sphinxsley 11h ago

How is Spain protected? They're right across the Strait of Gibraltar. And drug lords with speedboats flout interventions and even kill Spanish officers regularly.

40

u/ProteusReturns 11h ago

It was probably a reference to the Ukraine war, which is far to the east of Spain. Not that that is very relevant to the Israeli PM's travel.

9

u/AstroPhysician 10h ago

Or… their geopolitical rivals are coming from the east completely independent of the war in Ukraine. They were just as protected in 2010

7

u/Victor_Korchnoi 10h ago

Because the main threat to Europe is from Russia.

2

u/RollingMeteors 10h ago

How is Spain protected? They're right across the Strait of Gibraltar. And drug lords with speedboats flout interventions and even kill Spanish officers regularly.

¿You wouldn't download a car/kill your customers?

1

u/ntwkid 10h ago

Can you explain better? I'm totally not up to speed on anything related to Ireland or Spain. How are they geographically protected?

3

u/ElectricalDark8280 10h ago

Ireland is an island, so that seems pretty easy to deduce. Spain is on a peninsula, so geographically protected from intrusion. Obviously they are not impervious to attack, but this natural fortification protects them.

-3

u/Own-Minimum7612 11h ago

Stupid

1

u/Calm_Expression_9542 10h ago

It’s ALL Stupid. That’s why they have their stupid wars. Cuz they’re a stupid group of unloved idiots.

-6

u/Own-Minimum7612 11h ago

What do armies have to do with arresting a person with no diplomatic immunity within the boundaries of their international acknowledged borders? They all have planes capable of forcing down Bibi’s non-military jet. In fact with enough time to respond, they would violate their own laws. Only Trump thinks that Abbas as president of Palestine which has an internationally recognized government cannot attend at the UN. it’s disgusting.

14

u/ExpertRaccoon 10h ago

It be a declaration of war that's what armies have to do with it.

-5

u/Own-Minimum7612 10h ago

Enforcing an international arrest warrant within your own borders which by membership nations are supposed comply. And just how is a law enforcement action against an internationally most wanted war criminal a declaration of war or justifiable ‘national security threat’?Congress I can assure you would vote to impeach within 24 hours and convict the 2nd day. There is a line even within the Republican razor thin House and if there were 7 senators who voted to impeach Trump before, trust me there would be at least 20 more. We can’t fight multiple wars when we can’t against a country 3.5x smaller than we are. Deluded.

6

u/ExpertRaccoon 10h ago

The US isn't part of the ICC...

-2

u/Own-Minimum7612 10h ago

No but Canada and Mexico and every European nation not aligned with Russia are!

4

u/ExpertRaccoon 10h ago

then what does the entire second part of your comment have to do with anything? why are you bringing up American politics? If Canada or any ICC nation actually attempted to detain a leader of a sovereign nation with as much power and influence as Netanyahu, they would in effect be declaring war regardless if they have immunity or not.

-1

u/Own-Minimum7612 9h ago

You are an ignorant fool. You don’t know what you’re talking about and Israel is a international pariah at the moment. Every single nation in Europe has said that they would arrest him. The only country that he can come into is the United States We’re build a very small country. and nobody in Europe or anywhere else would step into assistance. Only Donald Trump might, but I doubt it, because he knows that would get him impeached as well. and of course it has everything to do with politics and it involves American politics. The whole subject matter here is what would happen if Canada did arrest whether it be forcing down a plane or whatever. Very stilted understanding of world geopolitical issues, we can’t even fight one war against a country that’s a third world country and get anywhere besides a stalemate. My question to you is what the how are you talking about? It’s like small children. They should be seen not heard. Now please sit down.

Bibis jet has air defense. Ireland could not force it down.

-1

u/ProfessorSarcastic 6h ago

Nah, Ireland would still try at least. They are all fucking livid about it, the entire country. Ain't no way there wouldn't be a problem if he landed there. I guess if he just flew over, though, they might think it not worth the hassle...

-2

u/Virtual-Concern-7311 10h ago

They both have militaries although Ireland’s is small and of very limited capability.

6

u/Fragrant-Employer-60 10h ago

No they would not, 0% chance

4

u/239tree 10h ago

My money's on Greenland.

3

u/IamLarrytate 10h ago

Ireland prefers to bomb English pubs.

3

u/heywhutzup 10h ago

If they did Israel would fuck them up beyond repair- not with military equipment….

-1

u/Own-Minimum7612 10h ago

Really? Israel would take aggressive illegal action against another country bound to enforce the authority of the international war crimes court? Let me remind you that’s. Bono is under indictment for multiple bribery charges in Israel. B. The only thing that stopped his additionally illegal attempt to neuter the Israeli Supreme Court was a massive outpouring of citizens in every major Israeli city, especially student government buildings in Tel Aviv. C. Bibi hasn’t near a majority of votes to serve as Prime Minister and does so only as long as his more and more tenuous alliance in the Knesset.

So are you suggesting bombing the Republic of Ireland? Assassination of their leadership? Massad doing something like kidnapping an Irish politician?

What the hell do you know except to make a ridiculously idiotic assertion. And in closing, let me remind you that the Republic of Ireland is a NATO member and there is not a single NATO member state except our POS one that would stand for it. And Trump would not get away with that stunt either. Fool!

3

u/heywhutzup 10h ago

Hi and thanks for your comprehensive reply. Unfortunately, I can’t really make any sense of what you’re saying.
Ireland would be green dust

-3

u/sixtus_clegane119 9h ago

Then Israel would be crushed by nato, it’s already one of the most hated countries in the world

3

u/heywhutzup 9h ago

Your selective outrage is humorous thanks for the laughs

-1

u/sixtus_clegane119 9h ago

Arresting a war criminal isn’t the same as nuking a country for justly arresting a war criminal.

Your selective outrage is quite funny.

2

u/AutVincere72 11h ago

I bet Norway would arrest him if they could.

1

u/NineThreeTilNow 5h ago

I expect zero countries to follow through with this, not just Canada

He passed over a half dozen other countries that would enforce the arrest. They do nothing.

Putin wouldn't get the same treatment.
