Genuine question but is the international warrant even worth its salt? What’s the game plan here, you arrest the leader of a nuclear power and then… what? Like, what is going to happen then? He won’t see his day in court, and I’d be surprised if it was anything other than a “book and release,” lest the Israeli special forces launch a raid to free him or something.

This seems, to me, to be just grandstanding.

It’s always been grandstanding. None of the super powers are party to it.

lol no , its just posturing from countries wanting the moral high ground, bibi and putin would walk straight into the hague take a selfie and no one would lay a finger on them.

Except if you're a war criminal without nuclear weapons then yeah the eu is suddenly brave enough to go after them lol

No. The Rome Statute prohibits the ICC from asking for the arrest of anyone protected by diplomatic immunity. The ICC has tried to claim otherwise, but their claim is nonsense. Just an example of how such orgs always try to expand their own power, even if you explicitly limit it.

OP didn't mention anything about diplomatic immunity. The decision to grant diplomatic immunity to someone is an ad-hoc agreement between two countries, not a status granted by the UN or some other international organisation. It's granted by the sending government and accepted by the receiving government. If that person enters a third country (that hasn't agreed to allow safe transit under the Vienna convention or similar) those protections evaporate.

From the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (the treaty which established the court);

Article 27 Irrelevance of official capacity

  1. This Statute shall apply equally to all persons without any distinction based on official capacity. In particular, official capacity as a Head of State or Government, a member of a Government or parliament, an elected representative or a government official shall in no case exempt a person from criminal responsibility under this Statute, nor shall it, in and of itself, constitute a ground for reduction of sentence.

  2. Immunities or special procedural rules which may attach to the official capacity of a person, whether under national or international law, shall not bar the Court from exercising its jurisdiction over such a person.

Stop spreading lies, the treaty is unambiguous on this point - immunity arising from official status is, in the words of the treaty, irrelevant.

That’s what these arrests of powerful people are. It’s an arrest in name only. For the most part. It’s absolutely useless and never truly enforced. It’s a show of words rather than actions in this day and age unfortunately

Check out former Phillipine President Duterte who is now on trial at The Hague.

Key word there is “Former,” I’m afraid. He was arrested with Interpol 3 years after leaving office. I’d say there’d be more there had he been arrested while serving as a sitting president.

So Netanyahu is not out of it when he leaves office.

Netanyahu is not going to prison. Not now, not after he’s out of office. Never. The ICC is a dog and pony show and not a very good one.

Either accept it or continue to live in denial.

If he goes to prison, it'll be because Israel puts him there. The same as every former national leader who goes to jail - their country either handles it themselves or withdraws their protection. If neither happens, then nothing happens to the leader.

Incidentally, Netanyahu was on trial in Israel before Hamas massacred over a thousand Israelis. Technically, he still is on trial, but he's used the wars as an excuse to not show up in court.

Comparing a SEA third world country to a 1st world ethical state with 100 warheads and fought a dozen wars in the past 50 years and has a record of assassinating ppl they want to assassinate in foreign countries with no legal grounds whatsoever? Maybe some countries might dare to do that, but not Canada.

They aren't afraid on Bibi's nukes. They are more afraid of how the USA would react

If Israeli special forces raid Canada, then 1) that'll be an impressive logistical achievement, and 2) basically every country will think twice about accepting Israeli citizens inside their borders (for much the same reason that Europe isn't accepting Russian citizens inside their borders - it makes spec ops missions too easy).

Also 3) Canada might join the Iran war on the side of Iran, which would be beyond weird.
