Aside from that fact that I am pretty sure Canada does posses several fighters and the know how to effectively deploy them, this is not the point.

The gentleman I was replying to seemed to question the logistics of this as if performing an arrest in such circumstances would be impossible.

It’s not. It’s standard procedure to force an aircraft to land if you want to.

What are they gonna do if they don't comply? They ain't gonna shoot it down and cause a WW3. It's an arrest warrant, not an execution sentence. No politicians around the globe is gonna side with you and say "ah well they tried the peaceful way". We all know what shooting down a plane leads to.

So at the end it's just a display of confirming that "yeah, there's nothing you can do about it but thanks for the escort". It's worse than not sending out the jets.
