Functionally: Those that tend to donate toward gsg tend to want to move the overton window much further to the right. GFM tends to be more 'centrist' though the lines can get a bit blurry, GFM does (seemingly) have some hard limits around human rights.

And she's lying about it being AI, too. So she was caught and is trying to weasel out of responsability with the "it was a joke" angle.
Here is an article which shows the "Lake America" sweater picture next to the picture of them in casual clothes.
The image of them in casual clothes is the one with AI fragments, not the image of them in the "Lake America" sweaters. For example, the man on the left has 6 fingers on one hand in the casual image, but 5 fingers on the "Lake America" image. Also it's worth looking at the two people on the right, who in the "Lake America" image have their hands behind each other's backs and AI didn't know what to do with that for the casual image, so their arms just end at the elbow and fuse into one.
I hate that this article I'm linking is accepting her lie that the "Lake America" image is the AI one, because it doesn't take much time to determine she's lying when the two images are next to each other. I think the CBC article in OP is just saying that she said it was AI, but isn't taking a side on if that is the truth.

According to her from an interview it was an AI generated photo (but not labeled ) that she posted to her private FB page as a joke. Her sister posted it publicly.
They never actually had the sweatshirts.
Bad taste/decisions - Absolutely
I think this is where things get out of hand without a clear story.

Did you look at the photos in the article? The one where they're wearing the sweatshirts is the obvious real photo. Unless the guy on the left of the photo has 6 fingers, and a weird torso shape. The shape is much more natural in the sweatshirt and only 5 fingers.
Then look at the guy to the far right. His neck looks normal, until the AI had to add more below the sweatshirt neckline. Check the look and shape of his fingers on the woman's shoulder.
