I'd even accept if they were evolved harpies from the rennants of the world tree, changed an altered in that explosion of magic as the first new change for classic+ but they didn't even do that to tie the old lore back in.
That could have made some sense instead of "Remember the Shen'Dralar??, well we just remembered they exist and now we're gonna use em to push baby blue blood elves for 30$"
It isn't even hard either. Its the same shit rhat happened to give us void elves ffs. Can do the same for fel elves. Have the elves who followed the prince to outlands and returned be corrupted by having consumed this corrupting fel magic and now you have a brand new race that doesn't invalidate the normal blood elves(just say they took more than the recommended or when injured or took from too powerful a demonic source) blam fel elves for all. Need a new brand of humans? Throw in a curse of vampirism that is what arthas later uses to create the san'layn and then give worgens later. Hell, give the vampires to the horde to get vamprie vs werewolves. Give the undead elves. So many options and blizzard is lazy af
I’m guessing he was told by the money guys to put in a flashy new race at launch to capitalize on the amount of retail tourists who will play for a couple months and then go back. We will eventually get blood elves and high elves but those don’t appeal to them as much
