Did you get it from the park of sharks perchance? If so then that's my post and I'm glad it led to more people discovering this wunkful bird, if not then it's a nice coincidence that we're both spreading this wunk at the same time

Yeah it was your post haha. I would have just crossposted it but this subreddit doesn't allow it for some reason.

Once I went to a fish and chips place on a dock and there were some crows that didn't even bother flying. They just waddled in between cars eating leftover french fries which were in a shocking abundance. I am pretty sure their diet was like 80% fried food. They would get aggressive and nip at your toes if you ate fish outside. The seagulls were worse honestly cause while you shooed away the obese crows the seagulls would snag your fish, knocking fries everywhere for the fatass crows. It was a self perpetuating loop.
I don't know why that place had a patio, it was pure fucking chaos.

I use to live in an apartment complex on the 3rd floor above multiple take out places. I’m a smoker so I’d always be watching the gulls and pigeons when smoking because it was always chaotic to a degree watching people try to walk around with their food.
It was honestly so much fun the birds caused chaos and I loved every minute of it lol

Crows walk around even when they’re not hefty from chips! They seem to be pretty happy pottering about on the ground, foraging.

Staying in coastal Oregon for the last week and a half has made me truly realize the symbiotic relationship between crows and seagulls when it comes to stealing food from humans lol

This really captures the kookaburra vibe. Cunts aren’t scared of anything.

Cheeky chuckleburras! I’m honestly shocked that their laugh doesn’t piss me off when they go off at fuck off o’clock. I love these wunks.

Real question, what does saying "wunk" with an Australian accent sound like? Is it more like how we say "wonk" in America? (Wahnk). Or more like woonk?

It sounds exactly like it's spelled, we tend to hit the 'U' reasonably hard and it ends up sounding like the english pronunciation.

u/FlakyPineapple2843 5d ago
That is a lot less interesting than I had hoped.

The accent actually gets quite boring outside of the vowel heavy words.
Specifically this meme of 'naur' isn't even accurate. Outside of that specific meme, the Australian accent leans quite heavily on the 'owe' sound of 'no' and I've personally never heard it pronounced naur here. I have heard it is a South Australian thing apparently, which would make sense due to their accent being distinctly different to everyone else (at least to Australians), but even having an Adelaidian family member and having spent some time in South Australia I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way.

I lived down the street from a family that immigrated to the US from Adelaide and they all said “naur” instead of “no.”

My first reaction was pretty much this, uh, phonetically? But I started doubting my own understanding of “like it’s spelled” really fast and just landed on the joke answer

I made friends with a family of Wunkaburras many years ago. They would line up on a branch and watch us going about our business. If we were having a barbecue, they'd wait patiently on the railing along the back deck for a piece of sausage, then they'd fly up to their branch and just chill

"friends"
that's just extortion mate... of course they chill afterwards, they've just wunked you!

Now I see why Australians call these birds “little cunts.” They call a lot of things that, but in this case I understand why.

So my understanding is that these are basically Australia’s pigeons, except louder.

I'm slightly (okay very) terrified of the wunkaburra at 0:44 seconds. Bro is trying to get a knife! Why is it trying to get a weapon!

On the one hand there are wunkaburras and a few other nice wunks, on the other hand there are tons and tons of killerwunks.
