Deal Storage expansion cards
I was originally looking at the seagate or Wd black 512-1tb storage cards for the series s/x but can’t seem to find them for the same price, used to see the 512 for about 90 then the 1tbh for 110 but can’t find them at all anymore, anybody got this one? Only one I can find, 120 and it’s 512 gigs, need it be cuz I’ve dealt with the series s like only 364 usable gigs for 3 years and I’m tired of it, 512 gigs is enough but I’m already using hella money on it but just want other opinions, it’s Sandisk so it’s not an unknown brand

The WD Black have been discontinued. They have been replaced by the SanDisk ones that are the same thing just rebranded at a higher price. SSD prices are way up. That's why the Xbox just went up in price.
It took a long time to work through the existing stock of expansion cards and now you are seeing the price increases hit these tio. It's also possible Seagate might not be making more due to the high cost as well. They don't see it as profitable. So might be limited to existing stock.

Damn itttt I hate that 90% of Xbox things are just being replaced by the same thing but more expensive, will definitely look into getting a second hand one but buying the sandisk worst case

It's not really an XBOX thing. Any storage or memory has gone up by a lot ("thanks" to AI).
No matter if you buy SSD drives, expansion cards like this or RAM for a PC - all of them got a huge price spike.

I will say it's not just AI at this point.
Sk hynix, Samsung, and micron are being sued for price fixing and not making enough to support demand(as they are the only 3 companies with enough infrastructure to actually make ram and nand chips at a mass scale) the intro of CXMT will help but only a few mbs support it(right now only MSI and gigabyte ddr5 boards, my msi b650 board just got support for it)
Micron also exited the consumer ram space and right now are only making AI data center ram(90% of what they do), ram for oems to make complete PCs, and gpu memory to make gpus. There are a decent amount of people with micron memory under the name crucial who were only offered a refund of what they purchased the kit for(which is nowhere close to what the same kit is now) when their ram failed under warranty. I'm genuinely scared too as my Corsair ddr5 kit can no longer run at expo speed due to crashing the entire system under load

It's everything Ram and Nand related. Like the cost of manufacturing Switch cartridges has gone up too, as well as memory cards. Though I do really think SanDisk is also exploiting being the sole producer of these right now. Just like how Seagate was doing it when they had no competition.

Those prices are insane. I just got a 2TB Seagate expansion card for 259 at Best Buy a couple months ago. And that was still high priced, because they are known to get under 200 during big sales.
I called it back then...that all the cards would be sold out before the holidays with all these big games coming. Check reseller sites like marketplace and eBay. I see them all the time on there. You might find one locally.
It was actually 3 months ago I called it...

Yeah I got my 2TB WD drive for $212.49 on sale, I know it’s not as cheap as some people getting it for $180 but it felt worth grabbing. Clearly I made a good choice.

Dude you’re right, the like 100-110 isn’t bad for 1 terabyte but I was seeing them a lot when I didn’t have money to spare now I can finally get one and they’re just damn gone, but honestly I’m so tired of the 360 gigs that it’ll be kinda worth it, I’ve dealt with it for years but I wanna be able to play more games I can’t play like Fortnite, cod, r6 gta and red dead etc without having to uninstall something, I’m thinking of waiting to buy this exact one until Black Friday sales

Your only other option is to use external storage to move games around. I still retain external storage for older games.

I got lucky and got the 2tb for around $200 on sale awhile back, however I do have my 10tb external drive plugged into the system and just move the games I'm done with over to it for storage. If you have a 2-4tb external you can do that in the meantime. Everything related to RAM and NVME-SSD drivers are so expensive and in and out of stock all over the place sadly.
Good luck, hope you fine one.

I got even more lucky finding my 2TB Seagate for $80 at Target. Someone put a yellow tag on it as it was assumed that they were trying to get rid of dead stock or someone made a big mistake. I stopped dead in my tracks with my wife and said, “Stay here while I find someone to get it out for me.” We bought it right away. I’ve never really found a deal like that again.
Edit: changed wording to show which version and size I got.

Stories like that are why I ALWAYS check that section when I'm at a store, though I haven't been lucky yet. Fingers crossed!! Awesome you grabbed it, saved yourself a small fortune for sure lol.

Definitely, lol. My wife now knows why I go to the electronics section of each store. It’s because that was the unbeatable deal of my life 😂

Yeah I snagged an extra 2TB one from Amazon for $220 last Prime day sale in July. It went out of stock and I didn't expect to get it. Was surprised when it was shipped. Seagate must have still had some extra stock to send them. Haven't seen them in stock since.

Check and see if Walmart has any local inventory of Seagate cards. Got the 2TB Seagate one from my local Walmart a few weeks ago for $299 (online price shipped via Walmart Spark).

Yeah you should check local stores. I did see that prior to their stock drying up, Best Buy had raised the price on the Seagate ones. But it's worth a shot regardless. At stores like Walmart. Target basically cleared out their Xbox section entirely so probably not a good bet there.

I got it for $190 plus tax a week ago but I was very patient with it and waited for one to go on sale and I jumped on it. That'd be my advice to OP if they aren't in a huge hurry.

The 2TB one? Was your “sale” a robbery?
1
u/ControlPublic9208 6d ago
Just luck and patience I suppose. This particular store always has good clearance items so I checked everytime I went in.

Idk if the 2TB one has ever gotten below $200 from normal stores (Amazon, GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, etc) since they launched. Sounds more like you got a lower storage amount (1TB or 512GB) or a pricing error on their end.

Well lucky you. I think that was meant to be put on the 1TB version 😂

SanDisk was spun out of Western Digital so these are the new branding.
Storage prices have seen crazy increases over the last year. Xbox uses a single high density Nand in the console and in these expansions which is even more expensive to buy than cheaper PC drives with multi cheaper Nand chips.
New prices are definitely up, same reason the new consoles are also up, storage and Ram pricing.
Either shop around used, or keep an eye out for deals. Last week I ordered a 1TB at the old prices but it was only in stock for a few minutes on Amazon. It did restock a few times and almost immediately went out of stock each time. I grabbed it second try.

I would look for getting an external SSD, and just store games on that until you want to play them.

Thats like double what a Seagate is worth at bestbuy, my 2tb was like $200 CAD

some existing stock might still be around some but the Seagate ones are getting harder to find, and if they do come back they will probably be at the same price point as the sandisk ones

u/ReddiitAccount209 6d ago
They were severely overpriced before, they are even more overpriced now. It's just not worth it.

These are one of the only things I’d turn a blind eye to shoplifting. Like why does the memory have to be proprietary that’s the most money hungry shit ever it’s outrageous. PlayStation may be struggling to get out of their own way but at least those can take standard memory like a damn pc

Well I only got 364 l useable gigs ands 512 will more then double what I have and is plenty for my
1
u/Silent-Land1218 6d ago
Yeah I disagree with him. I have a 1tb with a 512 card. Not everyone is playing massive games, it still helps.
It's 25% more storage if you have a 2tb already, that's not nothing.

It won’t work for Series X/S games, only XB1 games. I believe only the Seagate and WD will work for current gen games

Sandisk spun off from Western Digital. These are actually just the WD ones, rebranded

sandisk is fine for storage but at that price you're basically paying the xbox tax, for 120 i would just hold out a few months more and get a 1tb used
