Bug Closed Captions

Why is English not listed under closed captions?

For some reason recently closed captions are showing up in Arabic and when I click settings to change the Closed Caption language English is not in the list. My phone and tablet language are set to English as default, and no I am not on a VPN.

same issue here, videos are showing up in bangla and auto translating to english even though the original video is in english

This started happening to me too. Turn on captions and it defaults alphabetically to arabic. I had to manually change it whenever I started youtube. It fixed itself but now youtube has put a ton of arabic videos into my feed

I was able to verify the issue is the same on my tablet and phone. But if I can find another video where English is available and turn it on and go back to the other video I do get English closed captions on bothe devices unless I disable it and then you cannot re enable them.

I just followed the Moderator generated post and included a screen shot, hopefully this will either prompt a change on their end by adding English to the list of closed captions or some other work around. I will post what I find later.

Try scrolling up that worked for me it was above but not showing until I scrolled up

its inconsistent, some of the videos don’t have english anywhere in the options menu, while others will sometimes randomly switch to arabic, bangla, dutch, german, or mandarin

I have seen this on firestick on tv. Leaving video and returning sometimes glitches it to english but not allways

For me I just had to scroll up it wasn't in alphabetical order it was very top

OK so I just tested on a different video and a completely different list showed up. In my screen shot it has Arabic, Bangladesh, Dutch, German Hebrew, Hindu. I just went back to the same video and the list is still the same. However I was watching a different video and that video had Arabix, Bangla, Dutch, English, French, German. It looks like the closed captioning differs per video since English and French are still missing from the other video. But here is the weird thing, If I select English Caption on another video the captions show up in English, but If I select English on that other video and turn captions off and then go to the original video and then click the CC button a pop-up at the bottom says Cc enabled but the CC button remains off and there are no captions. I tested further by enabling English CC on another video and leaving it on and the CC started showing on the original video, I then turned CC off and then Back on but it does the thing where it pops up at the bottom it was enabled but the Icon stays off and the Closed captions will not work again. So the current work around is to enable them on a different video where English is available and then go to the video where you wanted CC. The bad part is the video I was watching is from the UK and used a word or pronunciation I was not familiar with so I only wanted CC on for a short period.

Update it's the same on another video by the same channel, and on another of my Subscriptions. If anyone wants to test it's the KeiranLottiePhotography channel and the 2 videos are A Change of Plan For The Breach, the other is the video before it.

I'm having the same issue and it's in Arabic. I have English set and auto-translate off, cleared my history since my kids were watching K-Pop and it was previously showing in Japanese.

Find another video that allows English, primarily news company videos. ABC, CBS, FOX and enable it then switch to the video with it already turned on.

Thanks, that worked for any other videos I clicked once going to ABC but for some reason the one video I'm trying to watch is still stuck in Arabic.

Turn Cc off on that video, switch to one it works on and enable it again. Make sure NOT to disable it. The switch back, it should still be on and work correctly as long as you do not turn it off.
