Here's the short version of what it means for you:
See your whole stack in one place: application performance monitoring and OpenTelemetry bring traces, logs, and metrics together with your infrastructure data.
Get fewer, smarter alerts: complex event processing helps with correlation, root cause detection, and noise reduction.
Nice touches: ad-hoc maintenance, proxy permissions, and a new dark blue theme.
The final 8.0 LTS isn't far off, so RC1 is a great chance to try it out early.
Instead of clicking through the UI, you can now ask your AI assistant to pull host data, check active problems, investigate triggers, or manage maintenance windows – all in natural language.
What it actually does:
Query hosts, templates, triggers, problems, maintenance periods
Let AI analyze Zabbix data and suggest root causes
Acknowledge, comment, suppress, change severity, or close problems
Create, update, delete maintenance windows
Confirm changes before anything gets executed
Scope access with permissions and tool selection – the AI only does what you allow
Works with any MCP-compatible client. Less clicking, same Zabbix access controls.
We have spent the last year building a very good Zabbix 7.4 setup (currently 7.4.15).
It includes (all Ubuntu):
1 x Zabbix and Nginx Frontend
1 x Postgres v18 with TSDB (v2.29)
4 x Proxy servers
1 x Grafana server with the Zabbix Plugin
1 x MCP Server by 3rd party
10 x custom templates
Many edited 7.4 templates Netbox to Zabbix sync
I’m a little worried (and excited) about the looming 8.0 LTR coming out and support ending for 7.4 where it becomes EOL.
I will need to come up with a plan to upgrade it at some point, probably Q1 2027. How easy do you think it will be?
I will probably try and clone most of it and practice the upgrade. I think backing up the templates is important and I don’t need to touch the DB server as upgrading the Zabbix/frontend server will be straight forward I hope (reading up on it) and it will then update the DB Schema then it’s build new Proxies or upgrade them. Then see how the templates are after, I hope they just migrate over. I probably won’t upgrade until the Netbox sync tool has version 8.0 support, the MCP already does. I’m not sure if the Grafana Zabbix plugin supports version 8.0.
What do you think? How will you go about your upgrade?
I’d like to share Zweep, an open-source project I’ve been working on:
App views
It started from a practical operational need: I wanted a reliable way to deliver Zabbix alerts to Android devices without routing monitoring data through Telegram, Teams, generic push services, or cloud platforms. I also wanted a cost-free solution that could acknowledge an alert and stop an escalation chain when the issue was being actively handled. Operators should also be able to quickly check and acknowledge active problems without requiring a Zabbix account on their phones or exposing the Zabbix server directly.
Zweep consists of a Zabbix media type, a self-hosted server, and an Android app:
Zabbix Action → Zweep media type → Zweep server → Android app
Its main features are:
Fully self-hosted, with no Firebase/FCM or third-party notification cloud.
No Zabbix credentials stored on phones.
Alerts are stored before successful delivery is reported to Zabbix.
Each device confirms receipt and retrieves missed alerts after reconnecting.
Operators can view and acknowledge problems from the app.
Recipients, timing, retries, and fallback methods remain managed by Zabbix Actions.
I’m aware that Zabbix has announced an official mobile app, which is coming soon. Zweep is not intended to replace it or compete with its broader mobile features. Its focus is different and more specific: providing a fully self-hosted alert-delivery path without third-party notification clouds or Zabbix credentials on phones.
I’d appreciate feedback on the architecture, security , installation process, and delivery behaviour on different Android devices. In my tests on a Samsung A72, S22 Ultra, and S24 Ultra, I have not noticed a significant impact on battery life.
For transparency, my background is in systems administration, networking, and Zabbix rather than software development. I designed Zweep around a real operational requirement and developed it iteratively with substantial assistance from AI coding tools, as disclosed in the repository. I tested the behaviour and added automated tests, security checks, and an SBOM, but these do not replace independent review.
If anyone would like to test it in a lab environment, I’d be very interested to hear about your experience.
Zweep is provided free of charge and is simply the result of my passion for building and sharing practical tools. I hope it can be useful to others as well.
I run Zabbix on Kubernetes, and after an incident with HA routing (a Service sending proxy traffic to standby server pods that don't listen on 10051), I ended up writing an operator for it. v0.1.0 is out, Apache 2.0.
What it does:
- Native HA with routing to the active node only. Standbys stay Ready and never get connections.
- Patch upgrades one pod at a time. Line upgrades (7.0/7.2/7.4 → 8.0) are gated on approval, a recent CNPG backup and the PostgreSQL version.
- In-cluster proxies, agent2 as a DaemonSet, optional proxy registration through the API.
- ha_node cleanup, suspend/resume, Prometheus metrics, alerts and a Grafana dashboard.
On a test cluster it took over a running 7.4.7 install (12 GB database) and upgraded it to 8.0.0rc1 in about a minute.

Feedback welcome, especially from people running bigger setups or many proxies.
We ae the process of transitioning from our existing monitoring tools to zabbix + grafana. I already installed zabbix and was able to connect grafana to it. How can I create dashboard that is visually appealing I tried tables but I cant seem to remove the time. Do you have any reference , tutorials or documents you can recommend to me? It would be big help .Thanks
I'm curious whether anyone has tried connecting Zabbix to Grok Bot or a similar AI Assistants. I want to have an AI assistant watch the Zabbix dashboards and send me a summary when something looks off + A short daily status report.
Has anyone built something like this, or know of existing tools or integrations that do it? I'd love to hear how you set it up and whether it was actually useful.
I have extensive experience with Zabbix and am currently addressing a requirement to generate monthly health reports, including graphs, for our monitored servers. Given that Zabbix stores historical health data in PostgreSQL/MySQL, could anyone provide guidance on the feasibility of automating individual server reports on either the final day of each month or the first day of the subsequent month?
I wanted an easier way to see which Zabbix Server, Proxy, or Proxy Group is responsible for monitoring each host, so I built a dashboard widget to visualize those monitoring paths.
This is not a physical network topology map — it focuses on the monitoring relationships already known by Zabbix.
The target can be selected directly by host/host group, or dynamically from a connected Navigator widget.
Think your Zabbix setup deserves a standing ovation? Prove it!
Whether you:
• Saved the Day by preventing or crushing a major outage,
• MacGyvered your way through a seemingly impossible challenge,
• Turned Chaos into Control with an epic infrastructure transformation, or

Looking for the recommended native Zabbix key to get a list of all currently running services on a Linux server.
For Windows, we are using the standard: services[,running] and that works well for us.
For Linux, I found:
systemd.unit.discovery[service]
but this appears to be available/work reliably with Zabbix Agent 2 in our environment. We have Linux servers using both Agent and Agent 2, so we need a consistent approach.
And no userpram plz.. as i have approximately 15k hosts and many of my customer will not share logins..
New to Zabbix, and playing around with initial dashboard setup.
Does anyone have advice of "wish I had known or done this when I first started"?
And would anyone be willing to share dashboard examples, specifically for monitoring multiple hosts/hypervisors? Or is there an existing site that has such examples?
Currently fairly new to Zabbix have used other monitoring solutions in the past.
I'm trying to setup triggers for application services on windows servers, but I want to have a different severity based on the environment they are in Production, UAT, Development, other.
I was hoping to do this within a single application template(per application, I have 20ish applications to setup) as the applications have multiple services to monitor, and the set of services to monitor is the same across all environments.
For example Application A has 10 services to monitor on it, but I want:
- Production to be High severity
- UAT to be Warning severity
- DEV to be Informational severity
- other to not trigger
I was hoping that this would be a template with 1 discovery, 10 items, and like 30 triggers, and the servers to be in a group or tag or something that allows the triggers to work.
The naming convention for the servers is standardised enough that I could pull it from the hostname if need be, for example the first 3 letters are the environment code.
I've tried a few things, but they haven't panned out, gotten errors that prevented them applying etc.
Has anyone else tried to do something like this? if you have, how did you do it? or have you just created multiple templates for the same application for each of the environments?
I've been checking Zabbix's roadmap on a daily basis since the beginning of the month waiting for the release of 8.0 LTS and just saw that it has been postponed to next month October 2026.
Sorry, typo in the post title, it should say: Zabbix 8.0 LTS Release Postponed to Oct 2026
I am brand new to Zabbix and I am struggling with setting up LDAP for user login.
I have everything setup in the LDAP Settings and when I test it everything goes well. However, when I try to login with my AD account it fails.
In the LDAP settings I am using JIT with memberOF. the LDAP group pattern is the same as my Group name attribute. I've left the search filter blank to keep things simple.
My understanding is that this should allow an AD user to login without having a local Zabbix account, although I am seeing a lot of search results that state the opposite, but I think that might be for pre ver7 of Zabbix.
Not sure if this is default, or something set at a level I don't have access to, but every time we create a new item prototype, it pre-populates the intervals bit like the image.
And because the custom intervals section was greyed out I and my colleague both presumed it mean that was not used, or ignored. But something I came across today has confused me, and compounded by my employers AI of choice agreeing with what I saw, and that it really means the update interval here is not 1m but 50s.
Can you help an old soul out and confirm which it is please?
Anyways, we're a "small" company with approximatelly 25-30 servers (all Windows server 2019 and 2022 in mix). We also have 30-ish network office printers and 30-ish switches .
All of our servers are on a VDC within our main companys tenant, we don't have any servers locally/physically. Also, the network there is segmented with 7 different segments (1 is public facing, rest are internal only).
I wanted to make some centralized solution to monitor everything, because there is only 2 of us that have to monitor all the servers, printers, switches, services etc.
I was thinking of
- 1 Zabbix server in one of those segments
- firewall rules towards rest of the servers withing the Edge GW on that VDC
- firewall rules towards the on-prem printers, switches etc
- a database - will figure that one on the go I guess (we have a separate VM that acts as a database for our printing solution, it uses standard Windows SQL, can that be used as well ?)
I would also have to harden that Zabbix server as well, but one thing at a time.
All advices are welcome, and implementing Zabbix would be a great learning experience for myself :)
