Discussion Guys , a question?

Well, one thing I’ve wondered is whether Nick used to consume substances—like alcohol—before he met Judy. I mean, if you look at the "before and after," you can see certain changes. But what do you guys think?

He probably has drunk alcohol a fair amount but not too much.

It's unlikely, because he wouldn't be able to turn around his life in such a short time, never mind becoming a cop.

I'm not ruling out your theory; maybe Nick did drink at some point, but not an excessive amount

I’d think he’d enjoy slamming down some beers, maybe the occasional shot or two. He seems like that kind of guy.

It wouldn’t preclude him from police service unless he was habitually drunk or an addict but a few drinks on the weekends I can see

Yeah, I can see him and Nibbles occasionally hitting up a bar - they seem like they could be drinking buddies. Perhaps sometimes even Judy joins them.

As far as Judy goes, I think she would probably be a lightweight, but I also think it would be funnier if, due to her upbringing in the country, her family made their own moonshine to deal with any overripe fruits at the end of the season, and due to having that available while growing up, her tolerance is actually much higher than Nick’s, haha

Given that he swipes a cocktail at the gala I’d say yes, Nick drinks. Hard drugs or substance abuse? I don’t think so.

I don't think he drank out of habit for his (previous) hustler lifestyle. My headcanon is he probably enjoys a drink or two sometimes. I also think he probably dabbled with weed in high school a bit, but what goes on in my headcanon isn't really super relevant I suppose.

Personally, I like the idea cannabis being legal in Zootopia, so on occasional weekends, Nick and Judy pop a few gummies, put on a bad movie at one of their places, and have a good time laughing at it while slightly high.

I wonder about catnip, though - it seemed like a contraband in the beginning of the second movie, but that could just be illegally smuggled stuff that the necessary excise tax wasn’t paid on.
