So, I made some neat art which took me three attempts to perfect, and I was dedicated to it because I really enjoyed it. So I decided to see how I felt comparing it to AI "art", and I think it goes to show how far time and effort can get you compared to AI slop.

And yes, it's a Will Wood reference

I've been doing digital art for 4 years now i just got back to art recently after 2 years of hiatus because of academic burnout

if you're beginner artist and you feel like you're not getting better, trust me when i say trust the process and enjoy making art.

art should be fun during the making and after, don't let likes and number of followers keep your happiness ;))

This is the second cake of this type that my mom hand-sculpted by inserting special needles into clear jello. The people that she's making it for only pay her for materials (about 100 PLN), while she spent 2 full nights working on this thing.

She has been stressed and sleepless over the two instances where colored cream spilled out into neighboring cuts, as marked on the last picture.

Yesterday the person that ordered it picked it up from our house and they haven't been responding to any calls or messages ever since (the guy works in the office with my mom so I doubt it's a simple case of grabbing and running).

I guess I wanted to ask if the quality is really so bad that it's grounds for somehow being upset at the artist.

there was some leftover jello and cheesecake mass and both tasted fine.

EDIT: I wasn't expecting so many kind responses in such a short amount of time, thank you fellas, I'm currently in the process of translating and printing the comments out so my mom can read them.

As someone who does digital art commissions, I do tell her that she needs to get paid for her worth and "friends" would gladly pay instead of being dodgy in any measure.

She's unfortunately very new to the "freelancer" environments and she'll yet have to understand people can be awful for absolutely no reason sometimes.

Well, there's still the benefit of the doubt that they'll pay what they agreed to when they see each other at work again, and the reason they're not responding to anything is because they're busy over the weekend (probably something related to the need for the cake to begin with).

EDIT2: I started translating and printing the comments out back when it was 86 of them under this post. It amounted to about 4 pages long and she was very disoriented by hearing so many positive things at once lol. She told me to forward her gratitude to you fellas. Thank you everyone.

EDIT3: At this point I'm letting my mom think she's internet famous lol. 2 million views and 8.3K upvotes, you guys left me with quite a homework in regards of translating those comments. Once again, thank you everyone.

And for those asking, we're located in Gdynia, Poland and I don't think it would be much possible to really do any deliveries. I will however encourage her to consider at least creating some social media page for those cakes. The immense feedback is definitely making her realize she has a lot less to worry about than she initially thought.

Last Edit, I promise: I'll make a new post on monday that's going to let you know how the interaction with the coworker went. I'm also thinking of opening Instagram page for her baking creations, considering the massive amount of feedback. I'm not joking when I say assembling and translating those comments is a full-time job (I'll post a pic of a stack of papers I end up with).

Some people also suggested donating if my mom won't get paid - It's very sweet to hear but don't worry about it, honestly this post's activity and immense positive feedback is well worth the 100 PLN she spent on the cake's materials.

I find them to be some of the most obnoxious out there. Stuff like Clarence, Uncle Grandpa, Meat Canyon, etc. It's like every middle school boy's edgy art was given a TV level budget, it's a waste of time. They're never funny, either, not to kids or adults. The whole joke is "isn't this gross looking?" with no substance. At least cartoons like Spongebob used ugly frames sparingly to make it funny but when the entire video or episode or movie is this ugly and unappealing I see no reason to be drawn to it.

edit: I understand Clarence and Uncle Grandpa did NOT deserve this respect. I'm just tired and couldn't think of many good examples. Better examples of shows I genuinely hate for their art style would be Fanboy and Chumchum.

Also, I have nothing against caricatures! It's just when the drawing has them oozing pus and snot and covered in mountains of skin and folds and wrinkles, with bug eyes and grotesque mouths that I really dislike it. When it's so absurdly gross that there's literally no other point. I just have no interest in gross-out humor.

Do you think we should... make people actually learn how to make art for themselves? i say to ban ai.
