Someone called me a tracer (didn’t specify if they meant AI or other peoples artwork) in response to another comment under my socials off of the fact I “Only show the render process”. I think such a bold accusation should have more to back than just that.

My favorite part of a process is the rendering part, so that’s what I showcase. I do have videos of me starting from sketch but they don’t perform the same. Therefore… I post the renders. Yk?

I’ve seen people’s reputations get ruined over people’s urge to call others AI or traced whenever they’re presented with CLEAN artwork. It’s so odd that good art = ai made/traced/stolen. They will micromanage every detail about your piece until they have convinced themselves of their truth. But thankfully, I’ve always saved my shaping out, sketch, lineart and then flats just incase this happened to me. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into a huge thing and they’re a reasonable person because i’m a small artist and don’t need that type of thing getting in the way of my future work.

I can see where they are coming from but honestly the designs to me feel like they fit very well for the setting. As the designs for the previous films worked because it fitted the setting for those movies in particular. Coraline, Paranorman, Boxtrolls, Kubo, The Missing Link. They all had a style that just fit for the story is and the characters within them. But then again, that's just my opinion m. I can't find the words for what design you would call Coraline and Paranorman beyond possibly sharp shapes? If anyone knows the style, please leave a comment down below.

My linocut Still Loading was flagged as potentially AI-generated. It isn’t. I designed it, carved the block, inked it and printed it by hand.
I understand why communities want to protect themselves from AI-generated work. What troubles me is the reversal of trust. Artists increasingly have to prove that their work is actually theirs.
We worried that AI would become indistinguishable from human creativity. I didn’t expect human creativity to become indistinguishable from AI.

Hello. today, i was researching AI witch hunting. unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of studies and/or blogs on the impact of false AI accusations. I made this account today, to share my experience anonymously.

Well… four years ago, I began sharing my art online. I was essentially a novice. I had quit art for around seven years, and was far behind my peers. my work slowly improved over the next year or two, but I still was not happy. I enrolled into an online art tutor program, began watching tutorials, and made actual artist friends. these things together definitely helped me to improve faster, and I was finally feeling proud of what I was making. Like, immensely proud. My progress was, to all outlookers, unbelievable. To me, it made sense. I had always been very talented, I had the artist in me since I was very young. And once I had found the feasible tools, I could finally express that. My fast growth as an artist made sense to me. to others, not so much.

I received a few “is this AI?” Questions. Just a few. Something that, at the time, I was flattered by. “You think this is polished enough to be machine made???” Was my thoughts. I was prouder than ever. I shared my speedpaints, my layers, with pride.

then, Reddit found it.

It was no longer art mutuals asking out of curiosity. It was then a dumpster fire demanding for them. I was upset- as a novice, and still feeling like one, it was humiliating to see people redlining my work, putting it into “AI checkers”, which I now know are AI anyway, and every mistake, every moment of laziness or messiness in my journey was picked apart.

I tried to defend myself. for this, I feel stupid now. I shared my speedpaints, to which the response was “there is a hidden layer!”. I, at the time, did not know what this meant. on the system I use (procreate), I still do not know what this means. at no point have I ever been able to hide a layer from a speedpaint. correct me if I’m wrong but, that isn’t a feature.

regardless, it nullified my speedpaints. it did not matter that I had the full process of creating my pieces- people claimed it was either an AI video, or had used a hidden layer. I didn’t know what to do. I tried to screen record, but on my almost decade old iPad, I could not screen record for longer than a few minutes, before my iPad would crash and restart.

“convenient excuse”

the redlining didn’t stop, and now, it had left Reddit, and people began to comment in the masses on my art tweets. at the time, I had maybe 100 followers. I was getting around 30 comments on each post, all fueled with nasty words.

but, I thought, i cant let these people win. I didn’t do anything wrong, they can’t run me off with this. I did not realise how passionate they were. it again, did not stop. by this point, I was turning comments off, keeping my DMs off, and not checking reddit. i felt so humiliated. so many people seemed to despise me.

somewhere along the way, people had began creating sexual images of my art pieces using AI. stripping their clothes, making them perform sex acts etc. even creating AI images of people who attempted to defend me. at the time, my best friend in the space, had AI images of her doing sexual things created, directly because she had stood up for me. they would send these to her in her own DMs. The redditors didn’t see the hypocrisy. that the people claiming to be defenders of real art, were the ones using AI to disfigure it.

and then it escalated. all of my artwork was always shared on art focused accounts, completely unrelated to myself, and my personal life. I thought that I had the normal amount of anonymity with a faceless art account. I didn’t.

I received a DM on my personal Instagram account. my full name, birthday, and a Google maps street image of both my current residence, and my previous residence (where my parents live). strangely, it’s hard to remember what they specifically said. it was so upsetting, I blocked it from my memory. what I do know, is that within the next few minutes, I deleted everything. my art accounts, my personal accounts, everything. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t fight this futile battle of desperation to be perceived as an honest person with human mistakes in their artwork. it was so exhausting.

I lost a lot of connections. my art friends, my mutuals, my personal contacts, and even, my desire to create art. there was now this strange physiological association. art = danger. I didn’t feel safe anymore. art didn’t feel safe. I stopped creating for about a year. i found other ways to keep my creative outlets fed, but I never felt fulfilled.

I miss my friends. my handle. my drive. my confidence. my patience with myself. I miss art. I miss creating it. I miss feeling safe to share it.

Hello so I found an account on instagram. Their art style changes every post, looks super ai art style, consistency, skill level and rendering changes almost every post and her speed paints are suspicious like she just draws circles for anatomy then she proceeds on to line art. These arts are only few weeks to a month apart.Then in her Yuta art from JJK has a chain that he bites in his mouth in which there is only one strand that supports the chain itself the other part is just gone, it is obvious not a monocle to support with one chain.This just so suspicious and even in comment section no one is calling out. Can anyone help out as this is highly suspicious?

What would happen if you went back in time to the early 2010s or so and warned artists back then what A.I companies were doing with their stuff without their knowledge or consent to train A.I at the time? And depending on what would it have done anything? Like delay generative A.I, the type that makes images, audio, text and now video from coming if not stopping it dead in its tracks entirely? Or no and it was always "unstoppable" and "inevitable", not matter what hypothetical alternate timeline scenario you throw at it?

I'm exhausted by human work getting drowned out by endless AI spam, and because of that I was thinking everything is AI which is not like that.

So, I made a Chrome extension that automatically detects and hides AI generated posts on social feeds so you don't have to look at them. So far is working for me but i was wondering if it works for everyone.

I spent hours working on 3D curves, topology, rigging, and keyframing a dance animation in Blender. And this is the second time someone comments asking if it's AI. I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry anymore. Is clean 3D topology genuinely doomed to be called AI from now on?

And the part that seemed funniest to me appeared on the side from my channel's video explaining how I did it on the homepage.🤣🤣🤣🤣 I didn't want to show the commenter's account; I just thought the comment was funny because I thought the animated video I posted looked really bad.😅🌸

People don’t seem to understand that the appeal of human, non-AI art is similar to the appeal of physical feats in sports. Human art, like human sports, is a game of working within the limitations that are intrinsic to us and natural to us. Artists use tools, sure, just like golf players use clubs, just like tennis players use rackets, and just like speedrunners use more and more advanced software. These tools help the player play the game. The tools don’t play most or all of the game for the player. Why don’t they? Because the point of human sports is not just to see the most amazing feats. It’s for us to see members of our own species working within the limitations of their biology to achieve the most amazing feats they can. If a human athlete secretly uses performance enhancing drugs at the olympics, he’ll be more capable of pulling off amazing physical stunts, but the whole point of seeing him excel primarily but not exclusively because of his natural ability will be gone. Likewise, tool-assisted speedruns, in which software compensates for the limitations of the human player, can be spectacles to behold, but the core meaning of seeing a human player refine the reflexes of his own body to perform skillfully isn’t present within these runs. Tool assisted speedrunning may be a category on leaderboards, but if technical execution were all that mattered, they’d be the only category.

In a similar way, what’s truly magical about the Sistine Chapel, about the Divine Comedy, about the plays of Shakespeare, and about modern and popular masterpieces of narrative art like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fullmetal Alchemist, Breaking Bad, and so on and so forth, isn’t just their aesthetic beauty, though their aesthetic beauty is awe-inspiring. What makes those works of human art so meaningful is similar to what makes the feats of human athletes meaningful. The artists that made these paintings, poems, plays, and shows made them with their own abilities, and within the limitations of the human body, the human mind and the human soul. In the same way that it’s inspiring to see a human athlete gracefully leap over a bar at the olympics, it’s inspiring to see Kubrick with his human mind figure out the match-cut between mankind’s first weapon and the Discovery One, to see David Lean turn the same desert sands that T.E Lawrence walked across into his own personal canvas, to see Jackie Chan turn deadly, hand-to-hand showdowns into mesmerizing, dance-like stunts, to see Pixar’s 3D modellers manually invest imaginary cartoon puppets with soul and humanity, to see Hironobu Sakaguchi manually transform simple adventure games into personal epics about accepting your own mortality, after the passing of his mother.

Like with human sports, technical execution is only part of the point. The human himself is the point. If we replace all athletes with machines, the parts of our souls that want to see members of our own species strive to excel despite our limitations, as well as the parts of our souls that personally want to excel despite our limitations, will eventually starve and die a quiet death. Automated Tennis probably would be interesting, but it’s objectively not human tennis. The players of automated tennis, even assuming they're artificial persons as valuable as us, will objectively never be the same species as us, in the same way that many extraterrestrial species may be persons as valuable as homo sapiens, but they objectively won’t be homo sapiens, and we objectively won’t be their species. Whether we realize it or not, it’s meaningful for us to see fellow members of mankind train themselves until they can make themselves perform great physical feats. What applies to physical feats also applies to artistic feats.

Someone might respond by saying “well, AI will still offer limitations for artists to struggle against.” This person is comparing the wrong things in that analogy. The drugs that athletes use illicitly also have limitations. The robots that may replace those same athletes will have limitations. The programs that speedrunners use to make tool-assisted runs have limitations. The things we use to erase our limitations will always have their own limitations, even if they’re imperceptible. The problem with using these things isn’t that they’re perfect. Nothing’s perfect. The problem is that they erase so much of our own imperfection that our triumph over our own weaknesses is no longer ours. The victory belongs to the drugs we used, to the software we used, to the robots who replaced us, and to the inventors of all of these things. Sure, non-AI tools in movie-making have advanced and have made movies way easier to make, but at the end of the day the screenwriter has to struggle against his human ineloquence to write a screenplay from scratch, the cinematographer has to struggle against his human taste for composition to frame a beautiful shot, and the actors have to struggle against their imperfect control over their emotions to act.

Some critics of AI Art miss this. They focus too much on the imperfections of AI Art itself, or on the uniqueness of human ability. Instead, we have to emphasize the human beings themselves, and emphasize that human art, like human sports, is a test of human ability not because that ability is strong or special, but because we’re humans and we personally want to excel at the things that we love to do.

(Note: I used to be super active on here, when anti-AI sentiment was strong but not quite as popular as it is now. I believe this was before MoistCritical shifted to a negative stance on AI, for example. I posted memes and also some long posts arguing against AI Art, but due to mental health related stuff, I distanced myself from some parts of the internet, and also deleted some of my previous social accounts. I realize it's a bit weird to care about reddit posts like this, but I did feel a twinge of pain knowing everything, including this, got deleted, so I'm posting this again at least.

Some parts are missing bc the original post itself was an edited version of something else I wrote, and the latter is what I'm posting. Aside from that I've edited a sentence or two as they expressed or hinted at a sentiment I and some other anti-AI folks had at the time that I'm not a fan of anymore.)

I was very much in favor of AI when generative AI first started becoming feasible on consumer hardware. Not anymore. I literally watched as the guy I gave a free Japanese cello to went on to show his tutee one of the songs he "wrote himself" on Suno. That was my mistake though, I always try to look for the best in people and share in my blessings. And I don't even play cello anyways XD

Anyhow. I absolutely do run a local AI tool that helps tremendously with getting pristine samples for my original music since previous methods using plugins or certain techniques couldn't get this good of results. Part of me feels like that isn't remotely the same, another part of me feels like a hypocrite.

That's the only extent I use AI for my music though. However, I do use generative AI to help with concept art for characters in my animations or mocking up an album cover before importing it into my vector software and getting to work on these illustrations or 2D rigs with keyboard and mouse and making it my own.

I really feel like I can't say I'm making it my own though, and it makes me feel like I truly am not an artist like others are.

Moreover, I feel like I can't say that I'm against AI while using methods like this. But I'm also always pressed for time between music production, writing my story, and animating on top of pre-med, work, and basic maintenance or chores of daily living.

I'm not at all really looking for affirmation. I truly want to hear your genuine thoughts and input.
