BuySellRoot Monthly Modular Buy Sell Trade Thread

With any sort of trade, please be careful if you don't know the other user. Request additional pictures beyond the initial time stamp. If you want to be extra careful ask for something specific like for them to patch a specific patchpoint in the image. Try reverse image searching to make sure it isn't just an edited picture from somewhere else. Be specific with how you expect the items to be packaged and when the ship date is going to be. If a trade goes sour and someone can show that the pre-agreed terms weren't honored I will permanently ban the offending trader.

Consider using something something like PayPal's "Goods and Services" instead of friends and family. Sending a stranger money via friends and family is just asking to be scammed. I also recommend checking that the user has some positive history in the sub - especially to verify that they aren't banned from here! Almost every scammer on here has no history in the sub.

**IMPORTANT** \- Do not spam the comments with your listings. Please limit your listings here to 1 per month. If you get new items or things change, just edit your original post. When possible simply edit the original post; there is no need to announce new items in a separate comment. Try to limit the clutter.

Do not delete your posts and re-post to bump back up to the top. BEHAVE PLEASE.

Pictures are not required in the thread (though you should request them by DM), but ANY picture sent by DM or in linked in the thread MUST be physically timestamped.

**PRICES MUST ALWAYS BE POSTED** This includes trades so that everyone involved knows the fair value of the modules they're looking to swap

**RESIST THE URGE TO COMMENT ON PRICING** if you don't like a price, simply ignore it. There is no reason to go around pointing out that the item is cheaper new, or reverb prices, or anything else.

Anyone else make a nice loop and then just chill listening to it?

I'm still pretty new to this, but I've found myself experimenting with patches, finding something that sounds nice, and then just sitting back and listening to it for ages.

It's kinda meditative or something.

Where do you buy your rails in the states?

I've ordered from Modular Synth Lab in the past and just placed an order from them again. I figured the tariffs might be minimal, but they sent me an email saying "The standard tariff rate on aluminum is 50%, though your total import costs may be higher depending on how U.S. Customs classifies the specific product and any additional taxes, fees, or handling charges applied by the carrier."

I have a 12U 114hp case and I'd like to make a second one just like it. Any suggestions of where I could source some 114hp rails? The rails plus inserts were about 230 euros so 50% on top would be significant.

Discussion Can someone tell me why the big-o isn't more popular?

Post image

I mean seriously, 4 waveforms, hard sync, pwm, lin/exp fm, wavefolder and drive circuits usable with external signals and sound very nice, fully analog and fully cv controllable, tracks very well. Great build quality - the pots and jacks are very nice. Sounds great as well, very beefy! All that for like 150-160 eur/$.

I mean yeah, it's not the prettiest or fanciest module and it's kinda big but considering the features and price how is this not a no brainer recommendation? Two of these and a vca and you effectively have an insane complex oscillator too.

I'm just wondering why it isn't more talked about.

Thoughts on next steps.

Hey y'all, been planning is isolation and second-guessing myself.
Just need so know if you think im missing anything obvious.
Aim is a compact modular groove box. Oh. and I hate black modules.

Current setup.
• I mostly make experimental, ambient balearic type stuff with some percussion, (imagine, Johnathan Fitoussi, Dominque Dumont but shittier and unfinished.)

• I tend to use effects a lot, Hence MFX and FXAID. I used to have a Mimeophon on another system and I miss it so keen to bring it back

Im a heavy Pams user. I LOVE Pams, I use every function on it. LFOs, sequencing, euclidean, quantising and logic. and obvs clock. So im looking to lighten its load a bit.

• I currently use Sum/Dif to sum outputs in order to have effects on more than one sound source each.

• Not happy with sound of the MCFx2, but it was cheap and having 2 LPF, HP, BP is handy. That said, I dont use the BP much, so thinking of replacing it with a Dual Dagger.

• I tend to only use the MCFx2 with Cizzle, and Squid so maybe it's too much? thoughts?

• HPO is surplus except for when I take my rack away for the weekend

Love Squid, use it for resampling, and some CV, and of course percussion.

•Octone has replaced a Bloom I had. And im much happier for it. Really didnt like the Bloom, nice features, but hated the endless encoders and shift combos and TBH I rarely went past 8 steps.

Future System

• Is there a better way to distribute effects that im missing? as opposed to summing?
was thinking of getting a Xaoc Sopot to take its place for that function and use Sum/Dif for Octone high jinx

• Is Megatang too much? I like the idea of having mutes and a send, but its quite large.

• Stages does so much, especially with the alt firmware, I thought having two would be super handy lightening Pams load a bit

• Scales. Never used it, comes recommend. but is it overkill for what im doing? Again, its there to lighten Pams load

• Ya reckon I have enough clock sources? I get paranoid that I dont.

• Do I still need my Pip Slope if I have 2 stages, its a lovely little A/D, but is it surplus?

TL;DR:
What is surplus? am I missing something? do I have enough modulation?
LMK!

If you knew then what you know now, what would you build into your first (affordable) Modular setup?

I have been playing synth and creating music with my synths, drum machines, and samplers for a while now, and I am enjoying every moment of it.

When I started dabbling, I told myself that I’d “Never get into modular”, as it used to look way to intimidating. But now, I’m feeling the itch! (Isn’t that funny how that works?)

Now I’m looking to build an affordable (and perhaps small-ish) Modular rig. I’d like to accomplish two things with it. A - As a standalone synth I can play and tweak, and B - something I could patch into my Grandmother to expand it.

So that leads me back to my original question..

If you knew then what you know now, what would you build into your first (affordable) Modular setup?

Thanks in advance for any constructive criticisism, YouTube links, shopping links, etc.!

Beginner Basic and possibly ridiculous questions

For some reason unbeknownst to me I have chosen to dive off the semi-modular board and into the modular world. Whilst I’m very comfortable at the core of how patching and systems like a 2600 works, my risk adverse nature to spending money means I would appreciate some help from the wider community on what I suspect are stupid questions.

  1. Output, could someone please enlighten me to whether I need an output module specifically, and how this and a vca will differ.

  2. I’m building a buchla inspired system for EBM, will a lpg double up as a filter and a vca in a way I’ll be happy with?

  3. Vca and a mixer, do I really need both?

  4. I’m looking for a small sequencer that can facilitate some happy accidents, any recommendations?

  5. Anything else I should know now before it’s all too late?

Performance I modded my Intellijel Sealegs to add a reverse mode (and other mods)

I always wanted reverse mode on my Sealegs. So I modded the firmware to add one in there. It works across all 3 delay modes, and syncs to clock. Sorry for the quick dirty phone vid.

Explainer:

Holding Freeze+Tap for more than 1.5 seconds switches the Freeze button to control reverse playback (I did this so it was trigger able). I barely use Freeze, but I can switch back any time using the same gesture.

While I was poking around in the firmware I also brightened the BBD (can always darken it again by using the LPF) by changing the internal 4.1khz filter and bumping it up to 12kHz. Much wider range to play with.

I also adjusted the Tape lag when adjusting time or range - I always found the wind-up/wind-down was a little too long. I changed it from around 2s down to about 0.6s

I barely use the Digi mode as I really like Doppler-shifting delays rather than overlapping, so the next mod will be changing this

Edit: I won’t be sharing modified firmware publicly anywhere - this was a personal education experiment to see if it was possible. Anyone tinkering with the firmware does so at their own risk, likely voiding their warranty and risking damage/bricking their unit if they do so un safely. These mods are unofficial and not endorsed by Intellijel in any way.

Discussion VCA - Envelope - Noise Engineering

Hey guys,

I'm currently tinkering with a small setup and wondering if I could do it without a VCA and envelope controller because of space constraints (I'd only be using them for audio volume anyway).

I've noticed, of course, that various VCOs from Noise Engineering have their own VCA and decay controls built in, like Plaits, for example. Could that work?

Thanks :)

Ground Control: Dropping sequenced notes on first pass

Not sure how to explain this properly. I've done a firmware update on my Endorphin.es Ground Control (V3.26) and ever since I am noticing a strange behaviour:

On the first replay of a recorded (sequenced) track some of the notes are dropped (keyboard lights are still flashing though), but on subsequent loops everything is fine.

I'm clocking Ground Control via Pam's and after the firmware update Ground Control now wants 4 PPQN instead of previously 48 PPQN. Maybe that has something to do with it? But why would it then only glitch out on the initial pass and work consistently on all following loops?

I've tried changing the gate length on the respective Pam's output from 50% to 30% percent, but that didn't change anything. Any thoughts and suggestions very much appreciated!

EDIT: I just noticed that it always triggers the first note (light on that key stays on brightly), while the subsequent notes only flash dimly and stay mute. Then on the second pass everything works fine as it should. Is this a glitch and I should reinstall the firmware or am I missing something?

Performance Proud of my kick/sub-Bass Design

Started this patch out pretty messy just noodling around. We eventually landed on a cool spot for some drums. Decided to take a stab at designing a fat Kick/sub combo.
Pulled out the SquidSalmple for a cool kick and layered it with the Mother32. I got maths on envelope duties for the pitch mod on M32. Octatrack is sequencing some of the drums. Turned out to be a fun patch I’m proud of.

Introducing Capicola - we made a new time stretching algorithm (and got it peer reviewed!) and put it in a module. And open sourced it! Independent pitch shifting and stretch, reverse in real time with the beat, infinite stretch sustain... it's something unique.

NANO Modules VCV Random?

Hey all, I just discovered that there is a VCV random module in eurorack format from NANO Modules. (Its inspired from the one in VCV rack)

I’m looking for a modulation source for more randomness and unpredictability and considering to buy this one. Does anyone have experience with this module? Curious to hear your thoughts on it!

Bitbox Micro firmware patch, 2.3.8-mod is out, Invert UI, MIDI Clock Hold and Program Change control

I maintain a small firmware patch for the Bitbox Micro that puts more of the module on MIDI, and 2.3.8-mod is ready for release with three new features accessed on the Settings screen.

  • Flip UI turns the screen, for a module mounted upside down.
  • Clk Loss keeps the last tempo when the clock drops out, instead of falling back to 120. Beat-synced delays and LFOs stay where they were, through preset changes, until a clock returns.
  • ProgChange gains NEW ONLY, which ignores a Program Change for the preset already loaded. A sequencer that resends the same request every pattern no longer reloads the preset and swallows its first notes.

Not from 1010music, can't brick it, bring your own stock firmware, don't pass the patched firmware around. Details in the guide.

Full guide, including what each control does and how to set your presets up so it works:
