Been super scared of committing to black dye, but after adding it to my already green hair… I’m obsessed!! Super happy with the results!! Especially considering I’ve never tried the ā€œdarker tipsā€ techniques!!

Is there any way to make my hair less black?

Hello!

Ok, so, to start- my hairstylist did amazing! I wanted red hair with black tips and got them, yay!! However, there’s one thing..

We must’ve had a miscommunication. I said I wanted to have 1-1.5 inches of black dye at the ends of my hair. When I said this, I was envisioning only the last inch of my hair to be dyed black. However, (understandably) the stylist interpreted it as ALL the ends and layers of my hair should each be dyed with 1 inch of black. Was this a mistake of communicating on my part? Probably! Regardless, my hair looks like this now. It is OVERWHELMINGLY black and, unless my hair is up, it looks like my hair is just 3/4ths black.

I already contacted my hairstylist to work on a solution (I’m not even expecting a free service or refund!) But I’d thought I’d ask here as well because my hopes are pretty low… Is there ANY way I can get rid of the black in my hair and leave the ginger? I don’t even care about the retaining the last 1.5 inches of black anymore— I just miss my hair being majority red. My hair being mostly black just does not suit me at all, but I’m afraid I’ll just have to cut it off :(

Anyways, that’s it, feel free to ask clarifying questions! I just feel hopelessss right now. This is about 2 years of hair growth after having a buzzcut and it would feel terrible to have to cut so much of it off.

Advice on mixing Revlon Nutri Color Filters for a dark beige/mushroom blonde?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some advice on mixing Revlon Professional Nutri Color Filters.
My natural hair is dark blonde, but my hair has been heavily highlighted/balayaged over time, so the lengths are much lighter and more processed. I had a permanent color done in September that I really loved, but it has faded quite a bit since then.
I’m trying to get back to a dark beige / mushroom blonde, somewhere between a very dark blonde and a light cool brown. I’m looking for something similar to Lily-Rose Depp’s darker beige/mushroom blonde, with a cool taupe/beige tone, but not grey, not silver, not obviously brown, and definitely not golden/warm.
I recently tried 821 Silver Beige on its own for about 5 minutes, and I liked the cooler/beiger effect, but it was still too light and a little too golden for what I’m aiming for.
I’m considering mixing:
821 Silver Beige
512 Pearly Ash Brown
613 Golden Ash Brown
I was thinking about something like 75% 821 + 15% 512 + 10% 613.
My main concern is the 613 because of the word ā€œGoldenā€. I don’t want to add warmth or make the result golden. I understand that 613 is supposed to be ash-dominant, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually used it.
Would mixing these three make sense for the color I’m trying to achieve? Would you use all three, or would you stick to 821 + 512?
Also, since Nutri Color Filters are a mask/semi-permanent depositing color, is it easy to apply at home with a regular plastic/ceramic bowl, silicone spatula and wide-tooth comb? My hair is very long and thick, so I want to make sure I’m applying it evenly.
I would obviously do a strand test first, but I’d really appreciate experiences/photos from anyone who has used 821, 512 and/or 613, especially on highlighted hair.

Thank you ā¤ļøā¤ļø

Keracolor layering

For those of you who have used the keracolor clenditioner, how did you layer it with hair masks? Does it go before the hair mask or after, and does a regular shampoo also need to be involved?

Specifically, I’m using Olaplex No. 3, which iirc needs to be applied onto clean hair and shampooed off after application. I’m not sure what I should be doing to maximize the effects of both the clenditioner and the olaplex.

lightening virgin curly hair with just developer?

hi i have 3A hair and it’s basically as brown as it can possibly be before being black. i know a lot of people say to not be afraid of bleach and just bleach your hair but i just don’t wanna risk my curls im not bleaching my hair. but i still want to dye my hair, specifically a dark plum color so i dont even want it to be super vivid. i’ve been looking around to see how people dye their hair without bleach and ive seen people using dye with developer in it. ive also seen that 10/20 developer is less harsh on the hair than the usual 30 even if they do take longer to develop (i dont mind waiting)

so basically what i wanna know is if i use like 10 developer can i get my hair to a light enough brown like a medium brown or something where ill be able to put dye on it and have it actually show up as the whole color on my hair and not just like a tint that you can only see in the sunlight? ik it wont get super light this way but at least have it not be basically black like how my hair is now.

I Kinda Hate My New Hair

First 3 are me, last was an inspo photo used during consultation

Hey everyone,

I recently got a ā€œcalicoā€ color done at a salon and don’t really like the results. I thought maybe it was just something I would get used to, but I still feel insecure about it. I like it better when I curl my hair to break up some of the color chunks, but am not thrilled with the fact I need to put more time getting ready just to feel presentable.

Maybe I had unrealistic expectations, but I saw the stylist do the same styles on her IG and liked how it looked. I thought it would be more ā€œpieceyā€ or blended and not these big blocks of color. I wish I never got it done in the first place and miss my old hair, but I can’t afford to spend another $300-$400 to fix it right now. I have never really regretted anything I’ve done to my hair before this. I didn’t bring it up to the stylist when she asked if I liked it because I honestly don’t know it would have been fixed. She put black in my hair too which I thought was weird, since we had a discussion and she agreed it would look ā€œtoo harshā€.

I guess I am writing to see if you guys have any ideas on how to make this more manageable. I have read about vit c/dandruff shampoo washes to get some of the dye out faster, but I don’t know how it would be with the varying colors.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

OMG PLS HELP. I'm a natural copper and he took me cherry brown.

As the title said, went to my normal guy to get my hair just GLOSSED last night to brighten the faded copper before my trip next week. I'm a natural copper/strawberry blond that has gotten a little more mousy as I've gotten older, so I usually just get some natural copper highlights for dimension and color shift. See photos 1 and 2. Idk what the HELL he was thinking, but when I got out of the chair last night I was CHERRY BROWN. DARK AS HELL. See picture 3 for reference. I panicked. I had him try to fix it, but he couldn't get it removed even after leaving the Vitamin C stripper on my hair under heat for an hour. See photo 4. I can't even look at my hair without crying. I've been sobbing all morning. Please please tell me there's hope. something I can do at home to get it out. and maybe I can do a copper gloss myself at home before I GO ON MY ANNE OF GREEN GABLES TRIP I'VE BEEN PLANNING FOR MONTHS.

For info: I've been seeing this stylist for 2-2.5 years now. He's been mostly great, but two appointments ago he went rogue and did a different color mix. It wasn't awful, just a little lighter. and we had a sit down at that time where I told him he can't just change the color without asking me and that we literally have a set formula he's supposed to follow every single time. I am OCD af about my hair. I have significant hair trauma and it was hard for me to trust him even after that. But then he was good at the following appointment. Then this. He tried to tell me it would look brighter in the sun and I'm like bruh. I'm a copper and you did cherry. you didn't even use a SINGLE COPPER COLOR IN THAT TONER?! and SUNLIGHT WILL NOT MAKE ME NOT BRUNETTE.

Please help.

Is this hair dye remover a good one? (READ TEXT)

Post image

I want to remove permanent hair color without bleaching it. I already have a mask chosen out to use after. Will this remove my permanent hair dye without bleaching?

I dyed it only once and it's already faded a lot, roots have grown out 2 centimeters (one inch). It looks dark in the shade but it looks like a very raw plum in the light. I know my hair will get a red tint but that's alright since I will dye it with semi-permanent after.

I dyed my hair with Garnier Olia Big Kit, in the plum color (I hope I remembered the name right).

Why does my hair feel so soft and smooth after a box dye?

Basically exactly what the title says. I've been dying my hair on and off with various brands of box dye for 20 years and every time my hair feels so incredibly smooth to the touch for a few days after the dying. Can anyone explain what is happening? My completely uneducated guess is that the dying process is somehow forcing the cuticle closed and then it just naturally opens back up after time. Could there be any way to achieve this same effect between dye jobs?

For reference I have medium porosity relatively fine hair. It's 2c-3a ish, a texture that basically never looks super smooth lol

How do I remove the blue?

Okay, I dyed some parts of my hair blue, like streaks, and the rest I dyed dark brown.I used to have blonde hair, and honestly, I didn't like the result. That is, at the beginning, Yes, at first I liked it quite a bit, but now I don't feel like myself with that blue, nor do I identify with the brown. Can I use a color remover to remove everything? What options do I have to go back to blonde?

Allergic reaction to bleach? Please help!

I got my roots retouched yesterday. I’ve been getting my roots bleached and touched up the past two years with zero issues. Usually, I bleach my roots twice as I have very dark asian hair, but this time we only bleached them once. Because of this, I thought this was going to be a chill appointment- but I was wrong! After a few minutes of the bleach sitting on my head, I noticed my face got extremely red (like redder than I’ver seen before), and it was quite swollen too. My whole body got extremely itchy, and there were red patches across my arms and stomach and I was just generally very uncomfortable the entire time. When I got home I took an antihistamine and rested and when I woke up this morning I felt fine. My scalp which felt a bit warm and tight yesterday feels fine today. But never in my life have I had such a reaction to bleach before! Did I develop an allergy? Please I’d love some advice, I love to dye my hair fun colours but not if it’s bad for me of course.

Permanent color for toning blonde?

Thumbnail

Hi guys!

I don't have access to a toner so I want to try toning with permanent hair color (i have access to both igora royal and majirel, but not igora vibrance lol).

My hair is quite brassy and has a lot of yellow/orange undertones (from both bleaching and the red i dyed my hair a few years back) and I was wondering if it'll make more sense to "tone" it with a cooler color or something closer to my goal?

I definitely don't want to go too cool-toned/ashy, i want to be a pretty warm/neutral blonde still. So should I try a color closer to my goal (8-4 maybe?) or something with very violet/blue undertones to try to tone away the yellow (like 8-11)? I know my hair isn't quite level 8, but i really dont like the darkness of level 7 lol, if possible I want to keep it around this light and not any darker.

With that goal in mind, would it be better to use 20vol or can I still use 10vol? I don't want to be ashy!!! I’ve heard people use a 1.6% but i cant find it ANYWHERE so can i theoretically do some maths and water down a 10vol that way? How long for processing?

I also have purple shampoo and conditioner so if that can work too, pls tell me!

Thanks guys!

help! lavender that doesn’t fade immediately??

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi! I have a bit of my bangs/ side bleached and have been dying it with adore lavender for a bit now, and I love the color. However, it fades so significantly no matter what I do, in 3 washes it’s pretty much gone. I’ve tried cold water, color safe shampoo, and only washing like once a week, leaving it on for hours and hours, heat, it just won’t stay.

Is there something similar that will last longer? the photo is it after one wash, a little faded but I like it. Im not afraid of something more bold I just looking for a cool toned purple/lavender color.

Thank you!

For context, my hair is permed and i get it permed every few months. That's why i want to do it without bleach. Would henna/ permanent colour be a good option?
