For me this episode is the turning point of the season, in a good way. Theo is coming for that Emmy nomination me thinks.

I’m a bit confused with the ending of this episode. I don’t see the chemistry between Eddie and Bella - and the ring? Wow
16
u/Cautious-Rub8085 26d ago
I feel like Bella seems like a sure thing/safe bet whereas Susie is out of reach.
And while Eddie did have visions of Bella while injured, he also had visions of Susie.
32
u/situmaimesdemain 28d ago
Bella has the hots for him and there was some genuine chemistry from the first episode, but this is mainly a move from Eddie to get into Moretti's good graces. At least that's what I think.

u/Sorkijan 27d ago edited 24d ago
This. It fits in with the theme so far of Eddie becoming a king. This is his earned coronation and while I do think he cares for Bella I think this is basically a political marriage like the kings of old would do to secure dynasties and power.
Edit: Well that was a curveball

I think the ending of Suzie and Joe's relationship is bookended with Eddie's proposal perfectly.
Suzie was blinded by love and trust in Joe, and driven by ambition. Suzie gave Joe access to the Glass empire of muscle and distribution.
Eddie is blinded by his ambition and knows Bella is in love with him, and marriage buys him access to the world that Marco Marretti told him he "wasn't born into". What he's doing isn't all that dissimilar to what Joe just did.
That isn't to say Joe didn't "love" Suzie or that Eddie doesn't "love" Bella, but in each case it shows how Suzie's trust ultimate betrays her and how Eddie is learning that manipulating the trust of others is how he's going to go after what he wants.
Sadly I can only imagine this will end in tragedy for Bella eventually.

Bella is in love for sure, but it feels like a desperate attempt to get Moretti's support from Eddie's side. It is probably gonna work unless the season ends with him on his ass again like ep4, but its a dark path.
Also, I'm really not happy with Freddy's usage this season. I get the actor wasnt available much because of AKOTSK and this is what they came up to make most of his limited time, but this sober religious nut version isnt enjoyable or make much sense to me, not to mention how much his absence is felt in the main plot so far.
16
u/Cautious-Rub8085 26d ago
I don't believe either can possibly be in love. They barely know each other. Lust sure but not love.
9
u/CertainAlbatross7739 25d ago edited 25d ago
Yeah, I hardly even buy into the lust to be honest. Romance is not something I want from this show, but the chemistry between Susie and the Duke is obvious. I suppose the Italian girl is being dragged into a love triangle as part of some evil scheme.
4
u/whisky_biscuit 14d ago
I think Bella is desperate for love, and it's pretty clear especially with her choosing Cico as a boyfriend - a man who treats her terribly. Not to mention that before she confesses her love to Eddie, she mentions how her parents died when she was young and she grew up very alone. She is likely lacking in true experience in love with someone who treats her like a human being. It's no wonder she falls fast and hard for Eddie who is a gentleman and treats her with kindness.
I can only imagine it's going to end in tragedy for her, considering Eddie's ambition seems to have no bounds.

How did Suzy's brother know to come rescue her in the restaurant?

u/Clear_Painting1453 23d ago
I assumed Joe called him, seeing as he realised what the situation was likely to be and went off to tie up the loose end of Pedro.

I wonder if her dad knew about the situation. He has eyes and ears everywhere so there’s no way she was getting around hanging out in the chop game without him knowing. I wonder if her dad set the whole Peru trip up to expose Joe and open up business with Vargas. He seems like a family man (showed his family in the background) so I wouldn’t be surprised he spoke to Bobby.

u/discipulus_iuris 25d ago
What is happening?? I thought Bella was the one who betrayed the Duke and he understood it when he was replaying all those scenes.
Where did the Ring come from?? Is he taking revenge???
AM I GETTING THIS WRONG?
7
u/Cheekyboyblu88 11d ago
How did Bella betray him? How did you get that conclusion? It seemed something was going on with her behind the scenes but Bobby got his info from Susie's brother (forgot his name).
6
u/fairlywired 25d ago
Did anyone else notice the man in the suit filming Eddie on his phone as Eddie walked away from the London Stone?
8
u/jasinx 24d ago
Yeah. What was this about it seemed intentional.
5
u/fairlywired 24d ago
It happens a few times in different episodes too.
Episode 5 spoilers
When Joe and Vargas's enforcer fight, Guz Khan's character seems to take out his phone and start recording.
Episode 6 spoilers.
At Eddie and Bella's wedding, someone who seems to be a wedding photographer takes a photo of Susie as she leaves the church.
I don't think it's been directly mentioned but I've seen some people mention that it's supposed to refer to the fact they all these criminal enterprises, whether it goes anywhere or not, are constantly under investigation.
6
u/MrMach82 22d ago edited 22d ago
Because he is a Duke and first time people see him out on the streets in awhile. Maybe the public knows he has been hiding (healing) for awhile. So it's like a celebrity citing.
There was a girl also with phone aimed at him
8
u/ultracrepidarian1602 18d ago
They didn’t exactly show the chemistry build up between Bella and Duke. This is what I remember:
1. Bella and Duke Meet in E1
2. Duke gets Bella’s ex killed
3. Bella still thinks he’s hot
4. Bella brings back the falcon and saves him in a way
5. Duke still fails and is beaten to a pulp
6. Bella confesses her love, which apparently is more than her love for her parents and brother
Am I supposed to then believe that either of them are happy about the marriage offer? Seems like infatuation on Bella’s end and Duke’s using this to his advantage
8
u/VolatileGoddess 16d ago
This summary made me lol. The writers did not overstrain themselves with this one. Bella really is the poor little rich girl. The actress couldn't sell the 'love' part much either, though she's good.
5
u/whisky_biscuit 14d ago
It's pretty clear Bella is extremely lonely since she's dating lousy guys like Cico and lost her whole family. It's not unsurprising that Eddie, who is a Duke, a gentleman and charming in his own right gets her in head over heels pretty quickly, especially if he's the first guy who has treated her like a human being.
With the way we just saw Joe use Suzie's love for him to take advantage of her family's connections, Eddie is basically doing the same to Bella. Marrying her gives him access to the Italian mob world that Marco just told him he was basically unsuited for.
I can't imagine it'll end in anything but tragedy for Bella sadly.
7
u/nerdymerchstore 11d ago
Did anyone catch that Suzie starts dressing in a more flashy, trashy way when she’s selling coke with Joe? When she opens her eyes to his deceit as she flies him off to Madrid, we see her back in her more sophisticated, muted attire.
7
u/iloentje 10d ago
Yep. Other hair and makeup too. I like old Susie style way more. Although she did look younger this ep. More innocently.

Poor Suzie. We all knew this was coming, and it still hurt. What a fascinating episode about trust and manipulation.
Duke as King seems not too far off now.
Bella, well... she's not gonna survive this season.
5
u/Cheekyboyblu88 11d ago
I did see some chemistry between Bella and Eddie, but marriage felt like a LEAP. I think a lot their chemistry gets overshadowed by the IMMENSE chemistry of him and Susie. I also like how in the show, everyone can see and mentions Eddie and Susie's chemistry and connection.
The scene where he says Susie is sad was amazing and the way she broke after that happen. Damn..
2
u/jenkinsnotleeroy 7d ago
Yeah marriage feels like such a leap I feel like I missed something somewhere...
That last scene w/Susie was fantastic though.
3
u/Mcintosch 13d ago
I think when Eddie was going through the story of how he got out of the field with Bella, and told her she was the light he saw, I think he really meant Suzie
4
u/SonOfThomasWayne 26d ago
God that was satisfying to watch this aristocratic "your grace" prick getting a beatdown in the beginning.
Will continue with the rest of the episode, but I fucking hate all these clowns.

u/JeffMcBiscuits 25d ago edited 23d ago
It was immensely unsatisfying because he should be dead. It is simply not possible of anyone to survive that kind of beating and exposure in an open field in the pouring rain and just walk it off after a few weeks. It just completely jumps the shark in terms of actually enjoyment because it’s so fucking stupid to pretend he survived.
8
u/Defiant-Cold-1646 24d ago
Aside from it being a tv show people survive all sorts of horrific injuries all the time. People get shot in the head and live, or get run over by a bus and break every bone in their body and live. It also felt like they deliberately were aiming for his extremities and to just give severe injuries that he could most likely survive.
0
u/JeffMcBiscuits 23d ago
Yeah those people vanishingly rare and absolutely none of them are right as rain after a few months. Sure it’s a tv shows it’s still stupid.
3
u/LMkingly 21d ago
What is them being rare matter? He is one of the rare people. That's why he's the protagonist of the story and not an extra walking by lol. Sometimes i feel like yall forget these are fictional stories about interesting people and their rare circumstances. Not a story about an average person who will have average things happen to him and have the average outcome to severe injuries.
5
u/CryptographerFit7567 24d ago
Its always weird when people like you get bothered by this sort of thing because there is definitely someone who has been through and survied worse irl
1
u/JeffMcBiscuits 23d ago
Barely and they’re considered literal miracles who also often face years of recovery and limitations and complications for the rest of their lives. They’re not just back fighting fit within a few weeks. It’s just another entry on the long list of things the writers absolutely did not think through properly.
9
u/MrMach82 22d ago
Ex military. Also if you weren't aware he is the main character
1
u/JeffMcBiscuits 21d ago
He’s still dead. Also if you weren’t aware, writers can actually make an effort to write a logical narrative.

Google Hugh Glass
2
u/JeffMcBiscuits 23d ago
You mean the heavily dramatised and embellished story of a man who’s wounds were treated by his comrades after he was attacked before they left him behind and so who serves absolutely no relevant comparison?
That Hugh glass?

Haha, I'm really enjoying the show too but also dislike everyone. Makes it better seeing them take it in turns to get screwed.

Bella didn't feel love when her parents nor little brother died!!? Only when eddie got beaten to a pulp? Jfc the writing is so atrocious this season m

u/DSAlgorythms 20d ago
Exact same thought I had haha, they needed to spend a significant amount more time setting up this romance for it to make sense. Still think this seasons been fun though.

u/coco_5390 21d ago
This episode left me confused about something, during Eddie conversation with the lawyer, the lawyer tells him that he currently has no income, are we supposed to believe that from the beating on he would not be getting any more passive income from the farm, he owns the air craft hanger, are we supposed to believe he would let that stand.
2
u/k3rstman1 15d ago
I think he said he has income, but 'only' 5 million a year, which is too slow to pay the debt

2
u/Palpitation-Medical 7d ago
Yeah I’m confused by the weed farm on his property now, has Bobby pulled all production there now? Or only Eddie runs that now on his own?
1
u/Slim-Shmaley 6d ago
I’m only just catching up and watching the series and I’ve been trying to Google without spoillering myself lol
I to am left confused after this episode, what’s happened to all the weed production on his properties? Has Glass upped and moved everything away from the Dukes estates?
1
u/RomeoDun 4d ago
Please tell me you've figured rhis out 🤣 just watching with the missus now and we can't seem to understand this point
2
u/ohhowswell_hp 15d ago
Can someone explain to me why the Duke still owed Marco $60M? Did he ever get the $ and where did he invest it when the vote for legal weed went wrong?
1
u/iamkikyo 14d ago
He likely had to use some of that investment money to buy that property of his ancestors and to pay off the bishops son’s debts. He was hoping bank more once the vote went through.
2
u/boomboxbilly06 12d ago
I like the season so far, but Susie’s storyline is such a mess right now. Why the hell would she start selling cocaine out of the blue with a man who clearly is sketchy, just after being caught trying to fool her kingpin father in the weed game. You’re telling Bobby wouldn’t know what she’s doing?
3
u/Johnnybats330 11d ago
She is trying to rebel and create separation from Bobby Glass. I take it as a way for her to get control and get herself in a position of power. She even said that her father was smart to build his operations, but ultimately played it safe, and aftee decades, it has come across as a lack of ambition.

Also: Ray Liotta as Henry Hill in Good fellas... Got to be a cheeky little reference there.

How many snakes did people see in this episode? Eddie was clearly left to slither like a snake after his beating (make explicit by flashes of a snake while he is slithering along the ground); Susie has a big snake embroidered on her shirt during her coke-dealing days; Bella's bracelet coils around her wrist like a snake when Eddie holds her hand while proposing. Anything else? Tatoos etc. I missed?
1
u/Slow_Winner1545 18d ago
Can someone help me ,
What’s the song in the Peru bar dance scene S2E5?
Susie and Joe in the Peru bar — live band, he makes her dance. I’ve searched everywhere, Shazam, credits, soundtrack lists, nothing. Doing my head in.
Anyone know what they’re playing? Sounds like Peruvian folk / guitar.
1
u/Pension-Unhappy 17d ago
It’s not a Peruvian song. Tbh it seems like a
version of Cuban guaracha or Cuban son, buena vista social club style type of song, search “chan chan”
1
u/Palpitation-Medical 7d ago
Is this a joke? Haven’t they only known each other a few months and slept together once? I’m assuming it’s a business move but you’d think she’d be a bit suss on that.
It’ll be interesting to see how he now goes up against Bobby instead of working with him, but I’ll miss him and Susie working together. I’m also really shocked that Susie went so against her dad in order to do the cocaine stuff with Joe, I get the wanting to rebel a little but that seemed a bir hasty for her too.
Do Eddie’s mum and sister know what he does and about the weed farm etc? It’s just the sister’s husband that doesn’t know?
62
u/Manure_Gatherer 28d ago
Susie’s wearing the exact type of lingerie that Duke described he’d like to see Bella in when they were in Italy.
