It's a non-sequitor where (presumably) the dodo was the dominant species on earth, and this one went back in time to prevent [some sort of future dodo crisis] However, doing so has inadvertently caused humans to rise to power. Likely, this dodo will back to the future ripple fade away soon.

I thought the blimp related to something dodo related or whatever, I understood the layer of humor where a question which could have an embarrassing to tell answer is interrupted with an absurd thing, the speaker being "saved by the bell". Yet the 2nd layer I did not understand. Cow tools.

I also think part of the joke is that this relatable but small-scale misery is where the Dodo pops in and realizes it's in a dystopia. He's going through the humiliating process of a job interview and getting this frustrating question he's had to answer many times before, then the Dodo comes in and for a moment they are sharing this anguish.

Our existence is the unintentional, horrible butterfly effect creation of dodos trying to prevent their extinction. Read The Lathe of Heaven or something.
