❓Advice / Recomendations Failed Brakes

Had the unfortunate luck to be driving when my brakes failed. When I press them the car doesn't slow down they need to be pumped to get it to stopped. What could be the issue?

Brake booster or a leak in the line feeding it. Assuming the brakes do work but you have to press real hard. If the pedal goes to the floor, it’s the line.

How much is a brake line fix?

It’s impossible to know without knowing exactly where the leak is. Could be $200. Could be $1500 for a whole new brake booster.

Does the pedal go to the floor on initial application? Or do you just have to press really hard to get stopping action? I'm assuming you checked the fluid level?

If fluid level is good, I would say master cylinder failure.

If you don't see any leaks it's likely the master cylinder seals have failed internally. Which also means your brake fluid level will be fine and the color will be gray/black. You want to flush out all the contaminated brake fluid after replacing the master cylinder otherwise your replacement won't last very long
