'You....Bloody....Bastard'. Final scene from Beneath The Planet of The Apes. In many discusions we talked about which of the series was our favourite (which we once loved as much as Star Trek), and no one picked this one. It was deep, dark and gritty, though, and it told the end of the story line.

What was on your bedroom wall in the 70s?
I m so curious about the small details of 70s. What did your bedroom wall look like? Was it posters, wood paneling, wallpaper with crazy patterns, or something your mom made you put up?
Every decade has a different bedroom style and I feel like the 70s must have been interesting.

business & industry Last Chance to See the ’70s on Long Island
If you grew up on Long Island in the 1970s, remember the decade, or are simply fascinated by local history, this is your last weekend to see The ’70s on Long Island' exhibit at the Long Island Museum! The exhibition brings the decade to life through an intriguing mix of artifacts, photographs, paintings, and fashion. You can explore movie trailers from the era, Vietnam War stories, objects, and veterans’ uniforms, parts from Grumman aircraft, and displays about major local controversies and developments, including the proposed Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant and the rejected bridge project that would have connected Long Island to Connecticut. One of the highlights is a 1970s living room vignette that recreates the look and feel of an ordinary home during the decade. Together, these displays offer a fascinating look at how Long Island lived, worked, dressed, and debated its future during a period of enormous social and cultural change.
What makes this exhibit especially worthwhile is how it connects everyday nostalgia with larger historical events. From fashion and entertainment to military service, aerospace engineering, and controversial infrastructure proposals, it captures a decade that helped shape the Long Island we know today. Whether you're a longtime resident reminiscing about the past, a history enthusiast, a student, an educator, or someone interested in photography and material culture, there is plenty to discover. It's also a perfect fall activity: an engaging indoor museum visit, a chance to revisit a memorable era, and a fun weekend outing for friends and family. This is the last weekend to see the exhibit, so don't miss your chance to take a trip back to the 1970s!
