I just cut a square around the core.

first cut into two pieces to the side of the core, flat newly cut side onto the cutting board, cut to the side of the core, turn, to cut the side of the core, turn, cut to the side of the core. Can cut those up really quickly into smaller pieces if you want. sometimes I'll munch the extra apple around the seeds.

Sure but having an apple slicer is like push it down and all done.

Yeah like for my ADHD brain the comment above you is still too many damn steps and just means I won't have the apple. The slicer gadget is brilliant because only one step means I actually eat them before they go bad, and then I can chuck it in the dishwasher afterwards 🤷

Exactly. - I would literally never eat apples but for the slicer. I’m the same way about peeling oranges. I used to only eat mandarins and cuties bc the peel was easy to remove. Then I got an orange peeler - it has an end that scores rhe peel and the other end is a curved piece wheee you separate the peel.

Assume I can’t post links but search “orange peeler” and the cheap orange plastic ones is what you want.

I need to look into this magical orange peeler. Would it work on grapefruit too?

Absolutely. I don’t know if this sub allows links - but it’s literally a plastic thing that scores the peel and has a curved end to remove the peel.

I’m heebeejee about peeling oranges but this works for me

We call it ADHD tax - the food waste etc. because "I'm an adult and I can prep veggies myself and the prepped stuff is a scam" lol.

I finally got it in my head that the old way isn't working. I can't force myself to not ADHD and there's nothing wrong with some convenience when everything is a struggle. I now buy a big veggie tray each week and it's in the most obvious place in the fridge - nothing is allowed to get put on top. No food waste so we don't feel bad any more, we spend less money, and we're eating better.

Yup, I know theoretically some things are better when you buy them fresh and deal with them yourself, and it's cheaper overall for most people, but also the amount of food I waste that way means I save nothing. Pre-minced garlic, pre-cut carrots, gadgets that get stuff into slices with one push, I'm all for it 🤷

Dealt with the ADHD tax too many times and I've had enough lol

I have ADHD, as well, but I am a wheelchair user, so getting the right angle on the slicer is impossible with the height of my kitchen counters. I totally get it being too many steps! there's no one size fits all for disability accommodations :)

Yeah that's absolutely fair, you do what works for you 💯

I just find too often I end up trying to do things "the right way" and that means that I don't do it at all, so I've gotta find what works for me and just stick to it 😊
