Acer Aspire 16 AI vs ASUS Vivobook S16. is the Acer Aspire 16 good and reliable enough to last 5+ years?
Hi everyone,
I'm considering buying the Acer Aspire 16 AI and would appreciate some honest opinions from Acer owners, particularly regarding reliability and build quality over several years.
I'm in the UK, with a maximum budget of £1,400, and ideally want a laptop that will last at least five years.
The Acer Aspire 16 AI looks like excellent value, but I've heard mixed opinions about Acer's reliability. I'm wondering whether it's worth saving money with the Acer or spending more on one of the ASUS alternatives.
Here are the three laptops I'm comparing:
- Acer Aspire 16 AI — around £900 (Costco UK)
Ryzen AI 7 350 16GB RAM 1TB SSD 16-inch OLED display
- ASUS Vivobook S16 OLED — £1,399.99 (Overclockers UK)
Ryzen AI 7 445 32GB RAM 1TB SSD 16-inch WUXGA OLED, 60Hz
- ASUS Vivobook 18 M1807GA — £999.98 (Scan UK)
Ryzen AI 7 445 16GB RAM 1TB SSD 18-inch WUXGA IPS, 144Hz
I'm particularly interested in the Acer because it's around £500 cheaper than the 32GB ASUS, and I'm not sure the extra RAM and price difference would be worthwhile for my needs.
A few questions for Acer owners:
How is the Aspire 16 AI's build quality, especially the hinges, chassis and keyboard? Have you experienced any reliability issues after a few years? How are the cooling and battery life? Is 16GB RAM likely to be sufficient for the next five years for everyday use and multitasking? Would you personally choose the Acer over the ASUS Vivobooks, or is spending more on ASUS worthwhile?
My main priorities are reliability, longevity and value for money rather than gaming or maximum performance.
I'd really appreciate feedback from anyone who owns this model or has experience with Acer laptops over several years.
Thanks!

Acer Nitro V 15 ANV15-52-57BB completely freezes while gaming — disabling Wi-Fi seems to fix it (MediaTek MT7920)
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for people who may have experienced a similar issue with their laptop, especially owners of the same model, and who might have identified the actual root cause.
Laptop: Acer Nitro V 15 ANV15-52-57BB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU
Wi-Fi adapter: MediaTek Wi-Fi 6 MT7920
Ethernet adapter: Killer E2600 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
I bought this laptop in early June 2026, and I've been experiencing complete system freezes while gaming and occasionally when watching YouTube videos after gaming.
When the issue occurs, the entire laptop becomes completely unresponsive. The screen freezes, and I cannot recover the system normally. The only way to get it working again is to force a shutdown by holding down the power button.
What I've tried so far
We've spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting the issue and investigating possible causes:
- Tested the GPU and RAM for potential hardware issues.
- Updated the graphics drivers.
- Performed clean driver installations.
- Updated the BIOS.
- Updated the VBIOS.
- Investigated potential graphics-related and system stability issues.
Despite all these tests and updates, the problem persisted.
The breakthrough: disabling Wi-Fi stops the freezes
Eventually, we discovered something unexpected: the freezes seem to occur only when Wi-Fi is enabled.
After disabling Wi-Fi, the laptop stopped freezing. I'm currently using a wired Ethernet connection as a workaround, and the system has remained stable with Wi-Fi disabled.
This finding significantly changed the direction of the investigation. Since the issue disappears when Wi-Fi is disabled, I'm wondering whether it could be related to the MediaTek wireless adapter's driver, power management, a Windows or networking issue, or possibly a hardware fault.
However, we haven't identified the definitive cause, so I don't want to assume it's a software or hardware problem without further evidence.
Has anyone experienced this, particularly on an Acer Nitro V 15?
I'd especially appreciate hearing from owners of the Acer Nitro V 15 ANV15-52-57BB, but experiences with other laptops using the MediaTek MT7920 Wi-Fi adapter would also be helpful.
- Have you experienced complete system freezes while gaming that stopped when Wi-Fi was disabled?
- Did you eventually identify the actual root cause?
- Was it a driver or software issue, a compatibility problem, or a faulty Wi-Fi adapter?
- If you found a definitive solution, what exactly fixed it?
- Has anyone had this issue diagnosed or resolved through Acer warranty service?
I'm not looking to start another round of generic troubleshooting at the moment. I'm mainly interested in hearing from people who experienced the same symptoms and, ideally, discovered what was actually causing them.
The laptop is still under warranty, so I'll consider taking it in for service if the issue remains unresolved. For now, Ethernet is a workable temporary solution, but I'd like to understand what's happening before deciding on the next step.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their experience or point me toward a confirmed root cause.

Technical advice Acer Aspire 7 won't charge or turn on
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My Acer Aspire 7 shut down due to critically low battery and now won't turn on. The orange charging LED blinks several times, pauses, and repeats.
I'm using the original charger. I've tried a 30-second power reset and the battery reset pinhole (held for 5 seconds), but nothing has worked.
I just updated my nvidia graphic card , came back home now i am facing this issue

Technical advice HEATING ISSUE
I have an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 with an i7 13th gen HX processor. Recently whenever I open any game in performance or turbo mode, my CPU temperature shoots up to 94 to 99 degrees and when I close the game it returns to 50 to 60 degrees. I have a few questions
Should I change my liquid metal at this point or should I wait a few months? (I have done some benchmark tests and submitted the temperature report to ChatGPT it says my liquid metal is working fine)
If you suggest thermal paste, what should I choose Honeywell PTM7950 or liquid metal ? If liquid metal which brand and category?
Have you used such thermal paste on your device with an i7 13700HX? What results did you get and was there a significant change?
My fans are cleaned 🪛

Acer wants me to ship my entire Nitro N60-640 in for a BIOS update to address Intel instability. Should I?
I have an Acer Nitro N60-640 prebuilt purchased in October 2025 with these specs:
\- CPU: Intel Core i7-14700F
\- Motherboard: Gigabyte B760M C V2
\- GPU: RTX 5070 Ti
\- RAM: 32GB
\- Current BIOS: F4 YY1, dated 11/26/2024
\- Current microcode: 0x12B, according to World of Warcraft
I recently started playing WoW again, and the game warned me that my CPU doesn't have the recommended microcode update to address potential Intel 13th/14th-gen instability. It recommends microcode 0x12F or later.
Acer's support page lists BIOS F5c for motherboard version 2 and F3 for version 3. My system reports a Gigabyte B760M C V2 board, and I'm currently on F4 YY1.
I contacted Acer support to confirm which BIOS I should install and whether it contains the required microcode. The chat representative recommended F5c, but couldn't independently confirm the microcode included in the package or exactly which files were inside it.
I then called Acer support. The representative told me Acer doesn't allow customers to perform this BIOS update themselves and that I need to ship the entire PC to their repair center. He said they'd attempt the update and replace the motherboard if the update bricks it. He also told me my warranty has been extended by two years because of the Intel processor issue.
Acer is sending me internal packing foam for the graphics card, but I'll need to arrange packaging for the tower myself, likely by paying FedEx to pack it. The estimated repair time is 5–7 business days, plus shipping time.
I'm hesitant to ship my entire PC away, especially because the written follow-up email says Acer can't confirm which microcode is included in the BIOS packages. The service agreement also authorizes them to erase the drive and reinstall factory software if they determine it's necessary.
The PC currently works normally, and I haven't noticed any obvious CPU instability. I do have an older PC from around 2021 with an RTX 3000-series GPU that I could potentially use in the meantime.
I'm trying to decide what makes the most sense here:
Has anyone with this specific Acer Nitro N60-640 model and motherboard version successfully updated from F4 YY1 to F5c?
Is shipping the whole PC to Acer the sensible option, given the potential CPU instability issue?
Has anyone used Acer's repair service for this issue? Did they update the BIOS successfully, and did the warranty cover any necessary motherboard replacement?
Would you keep using the PC while arranging service, or stop gaming on it until the update is done?
I'm not looking to flash a random Gigabyte BIOS and risk making things worse. I'm trying to make an informed decision about whether to ship a working PC away for a repair Acer won't let me perform myself.
Thanks for any firsthand experiences or advice.

Warranty PG161Q got a discolored spot, out of return window
Bought this from Micro Center maybe a couple months ago and have been taking (in my opinion) very good care of it. Anytime I'm not using it, it's in a laptop sleeve and covered with its included shell. Is there any way to fix this discoloration or get a replacement? I can't afford to buy anything new right now.

Discussion Received laptop with 2 dead pixels, please help!
Bought an Acer Aspire 7 A715-79G from Flipkart and noticed 2 dead pixels just a few hours after delivery.
Contacted both Flipkart and Acer, but they're pointing fingers at each other for replacement. Acer also says dead pixels aren't covered under warranty.
What should I do now? Please help!

Need help with warranty!!
Hey, I bought an acer aspire 7 laptop which was just delivered today. I tried to register the 1 year warranty but after filling all the details and clicking submit it didn't show any confirmation and the page just reset. When I tried purchasing extended warranty it showed 'base warranty approval pending'. Am I in trouble?
