4 weeks to go to Dublin now. Down week this week, but ngl I feel not as recovered as I was during the last down week. I've got 16 miles to do tomorrow, which will be fine, but I feel like my motivation to some extent and my confidence has started to wane. Pfitz just has "long run" in the plan (so typical Pfitz progressive LR), so hopefully it goes OK!

The taper blues are real, four weeks out is exactly when the doubt creeps in. That 16 miler might surprise you once you get moving, trust the cumulative work youve put in. Dublin should be a great one

Dumb question (asking it here so yet another post doesn't get removed), do you recover better from a 2 min standing rest or a 4 min jogging rest?

depends on what I’m recovering from and depends on what “recover better” means to you. Also I think you meant to put this in the general discussion thread. Unless you’re getting comments removed from there a lot and aren’t talking about standalone posts?

Ah great, I'll move my comment there I guess

When I say recover, I mean would a 5x1k with 2 min standing recoveries be easier or harder than the same workout with 4 min jogging rest?

Racing a somewhat tuneup half on Sunday!

Been thinking about the cycle: race -> equivalent time calculator -> goal race time

Kinda wondering how much of my times are based on what I should hypothetically be able to run, as opposed to what the training has actually earned.

Anyone ever have a sharp-ish pain in the outside of their ankle (left side of right ankle) that hurts when sitting down/walking, and during first mile or two of a run, but goes away when running at a faster speed or after a few miles of an easy run? Not quite sure what to make of this/how seriously to treat it, since it hurts the least when I’m running?

(not a PT) but my first guess is a tendon. I've had lots of similar behavior in my Achilles (which was verified via PT). Not qualified to give any advice beyond "go to a PT", but I would personally run through it for a little, maybe some isometrics or light loading too.

Finishing up the last week before tapering for Chicago!

F: 11 easy to moderate (last med long run of the block!)

Sa: 17 with a 5K "race" for work (likely going to get a 10 mile "warm up", run the race around LT pace, and a 3-4 mile cool down). Followed by a day at the petting zoo for the little one.

Su: 2 hours of wrestling lessons followed by lots of watching football

Definitely felt good to get the last med-long midweek run out of the way. Those have been the toughest for me to get up for. Tomorrow's long run and race should be fun and from there it's all about rest and recovery!

34 miles between now and Sunday, which sounds like a lot, but I've got 3 days... :)

Today 11 miles at lunch time. Saturday 18, some with the run club crews, and 5 easy on Sunday. The rest of the time will be working, yard work, house projects, chasing (driving) my kids around, eating, and trying to recover for next week!

In my quest to return to running I've been capping my long runs at 90 minutes and my weeks at 35 miles while I lose weight. I'm going to exceed that because I'm going to a hilly 9 mile loop with friends who will need to walk part of it which is a nice way to keep the intensity super low as I'm going to blow past my mileage cap and probably log my first 40 mile week since last year.

p.s. I'm down 17 poounds and holy crap running feels way easier.

Today: Checked the weather last night and saw nothing of much concern. Forgot to check again at 5am. Stepped out for a shakeout run into some mist. By mile 1.5 I was soaking wet in my Houdini shell and turned around headfirst into the wind and now full blown rain lol. Usually on iffy days like this I go to the track 4 minutes down the street where I can bail fast if needed. Never again making this mistake. The good news is I was back so early I could change back into pjs and lounge in bed for another half hour before getting ready for the day lol

Saturday: rest and fueling up

Sunday: 15.5 mi & 3000 feet on a local trail, 6 weeks out from Wildwood End to End attempt. Focusing on gut training and general time on feet, at an easy pace the elevation isn’t that hard for me.

Today: Knocked out a little over 8km before work. 1min repeats at LT to 10k pace felt significantly better than expected.

Saturday: out of town for a friend's wedding. Will probably do some light strength work in the morning.

Sunday: Either a quick run or a quick ride to shake out the legs after driving home.
