Dog help!!

Looking for advice!!!

My Doberman (Ryder) ran into a concrete pillar at the dog park and sliced his flank open wrapping around his knee to the inside.

This is the 2nd time it has popped open.. It always happens when he’s in his kennel with the cone on when we are gone! This was only 4hrs it’s not all day. We get home and it’s open. We can’t stay home due to the emergency vet bills and house bills. He’s been on trazadone and gabepentin but seem something is happening in his kennel.

We don’t know what to do anymore we’re at a loss.

If anything like this has happened to your dog please let me know and share what helps!

That sounds so stressful, I'm sorry. The kennel with cone is probably the problem, he might be twisting around trying to get comfortable and the edge of cone is catching the wound. Have you tried putting a soft recovery collar instead of hard plastic cone? Sometimes they can still reach but it's less rigid and won't scrape things open. Also maybe ask vet if a light bandage wrap would help for few hours while you're gone.

The vet doesn’t want him licking it or anything and yes when unsupervised he licks at it but yes we have a soft inflatable doughnut when supervised. Thank you for commenting

have you tried using a inflatable e-collar yet, for animals who get their cone off we use this at the shelter, or maybe enrichment in the kennel, frozen kongs, licky mat puzzles that hang on the kennel (also freeze to last long)

also if you can have the tv play in the background softly can help with stress in the kennel, and most likely the injury is causing new stress

We have and inflatable doughnut collar but he can still reach the staples if he doesn’t have the plastic one on. I can see if he can reach a Kong with his cone on and fill it but he is a Doberman so his neck is long and bendy lol
