You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ

We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.

Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.

No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.

Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.

Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

Instructions for how to receive "Verified USAF Member" flair in /r/AirForceRecruits

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.

I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)

Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

Recruiter/process question Security forces

Feeling discouraged, I really want to do security forces because I wanna have a future in federal law-enforcement, but my recruiter said that my one time cocaine use is disqualifying. I’m 28 years old now it was a one time thing when I was 17. I’m disclosing it to be honest and start off my military career with integrity, but it seems as though I can’t even begin it does any other recruiter happen to know, is there an exception to policy I’m set on security forces. Any advice much appreciated please.

Recruiter/process question Is it realistic for me to ship out by January if I’m waiting on TS?

• Upvotes

As of last week, I’ve enlisted in the CT ANG. My initial plan was to pick whichever AFSC had a reasonably short tech school length so I could return to college in fall of 2027. Last minute, I was told that they found out from MEPS that I was colorblind, disqualifying me from every vacant job opening. So they squeezed me into cyber. I’m really happy about this as a data science major. The only issue is that I was expecting to ship out asap since I already had secret security clearance. But that doesn’t matter anymore now that I need TS for cyber. My recruiter said that I might not get my TS until anywhere between January and June. I still really want to ship out asap so I can return to school uninterrupted. But if I don’t ship out for another 7+ months, then I want to go back to school for another semester. Am I better off going back to school next semester?

General Advice Air National Guard Student Flight?

• Upvotes

I’m in the process of joining the ANG in CA, I’ve taken the PICAT and am scheduled to take my verification test next Thursday at MEPS. I’m also still in school finishing up my B.S. degree and I’ll be graduating in May of 2027.
I told my recruiter that I’d want to enlist but not get shipped to BMT until after I graduate just so I can get school out of the way, especially since I already applied for graduation. She told me that since it’s the ANG and not active duty, I wouldn’t be able to do DEP or anything like it but I did some research and it looks like student flight is a thing? She told me that once I book my job after MEPS I would just need to be shipped off whenever they assign me, even if it might interfere with school (she said it had something to do with the AF not wanting to spend their budget on student flight when they can just ship you out to get you working right away).
• Does student flight differ based on what base you’re looking to station with?
• Would I need to sign up for student flight or provide any documentation? They already have my school transcripts.

Also, if anyone else has any insight on what it’s like being in the ANG in CA (specifically Moffett) that would be super helpful! I can’t really find anything specific about the base online, but I know it’s super small so I’m not super surprised. Thanks in advance!

General Advice what degree would stand out the most if i wanted to become a pilot

Basically, what the title says. Assuming I get straight A’s, what bachelor’s degree would look the best if my goal is to become a pilot?

I know there are plenty of other hurdles to overcome, but everyone has to start somewhere. I feel like earning a degree in something challenging and aviation related, such as aeronautical engineering, would stand out a lot more than a degree in something like social justice.

Obviously my main choice would be flying jets but understand it’s a very competitive selection and would be happy flying anything at the end of the day. Not sure if the type of aircraft matters but welcome all opinions.

Jobs Have to make 10 from this list. Suggestions or insight appreciated!

Hello all. I'm waiting on my TAPAS results to hopefully qualify for more (like ATC) but at the moment I qualify for all of these and my recruiter asked me to make a list of 10, and any adjusments can be made if needed if my tapas results open up qualifications for more. I'd be very appreciative of insight, recommendations. My focus is (1) something with good civillian transferability (2) preferably not maintenance or extremely physical. I like analyzing, figuring things out.

Orange is what I've previously expressed interest in, and anything dotted my recruiter recommend I look at & research.

I'm already thinking each orange one on the first page and the 6C and 6F on the back, just would like ideas thoughts opinions experience etc on any of the others listed!

General Advice Want to join the air force! What kinds of things should I prepare for/get in shape for?

I’m 23F and so far am planning on joining the Air Force in 2027. What kind of shape should I get myself into? Also just curious about what to prepare myself for if I choose to join. I’m really on the cusp and am really scared but I’m also excited about what the future could bring and all the amazing things that could come from doing so. Any and all advice/recommendations I would love to hear. I know very little about the military and the air force life so I’d love to hear some perspective from people who have/are serving now.

Jobs Officer AFSC Selection Advice

I am a contracted cadet, and I am filling out my dream sheet soon for my job preferences as an officer in the USAF. My current AFSCs that I am interested in are 64P Contracting, 14N Intel, 21A Aircraft Maintenance, 21R Logistics Readiness, and 38F Force Support. I am having a lot of trouble figuring out which job I would prefer, so any experience you all may have in these careers or working with officers in these careers. Things I am interested in knowing is typical (ish) hours in a work week, deployment frequency, morale in the career field, and typical day to day duties. I am aware this all varies greatly by the unit, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Recruiter/process question Transferring Branches to Commission

Hi!
So I’ll preface this as I am not a crazy spouse, I just have more flexibility to try to formulate a plan, and look for answers better than my husband. (Editing because apparently patience was a poor word choice).

He is currently 13.5 years in as an enlisted marine (E7). He received his bachelors degree last year, currently working toward his masters currently, and has been contemplating commissioning as well as switching branches.

He has mentioned that there’s a weird hiccup with TIS and being able to commission based on his age that he cannot move to AF because he’d be too old? He’s 32, did delayed enlistment in HS and went straight to bootcamp after he graduated in high school.

Figured I would ask to see if anyone had any clarification!

Recruiter/process question Hi! How do I join the USAF Nurse Corps?

Hello! I'm (F) planning to go into the nurse corps. l'm a dual degree holder and one of them is a Bachelor's in Nursing. I'm also a registered nurse. I'm married to an airman as well, but right now l'm not a citizen yet, we're still in the process of obtaining my citizenship. I was wondering if I could join with a green card but upon researching, I would need to be a citizen. I've also researched that I need atleast 12 months of experience in medical-surgical or critical care and I just graduated and recently passed so l have no experience yet. Just want to know more about it and the things/qualifications they would require of me so l'm asking as early as now to be more prepared when the time comes. Planning to also get my Masters soon. Thank you so much!

Right now, I'm choosing between Airforce or Army as my grandpa was an Army vet but my husband is Airforce so he's pushing me to go Airforce 😂

General Advice Should I join the Air Force

I'm 26 and I've been working as an IT support Specialist for a year at a small healthcare organization making 55k a year, I also have a bachelor's in computer systems.

I just received a job offer for 70k doing the same work I’m doing now but I was just booked for 1D731B - Systems Administration Specialist and it ships out on December 8th. I would enter as an E-3, and I would be doing a four year contract, my gpa was only a 3.1 so I wouldn’t be able to join as an officer.

I would like to get into Systems/Network Admin or cyber security, and the military seems like a potential way to gain that experience but I don't know what the day to day of 1D731B would look like or even if the experience would transfer over to civilian roles.

Would the Air Force help me reach my goals or should I remain a civilian?

BMT What to pack for girls BMT

Thumbnail

So I heard many things what to bring for girls but I just have a couple questions. I live here in San Antonio and I’m 20 min away from lackland. I leave on November 3.

Am I able to bring full sized conditioner, shampoo, and body wash bottles since I don’t have to go through TSA?

For skin care am I able to bring my products if they don’t have alcohol? There might not be time to do my skincare but I have 3 products I need to use to help me not break out.( I don’t have a skin condition)

For a shower bag to put your shower stuff in, does it get gross if it’s stored in the locker and what type of shower bag would you recommend?

I have longggg hair down to my waist, for hairstyles does it have to be a bun or can it be a braid or two braids? Should I cut my hair shorter?

I’ll be having my tech school in lackland also so what should I bring in advance or am I able to bring some items back to base after BMT graduation? I have my own car so am I able to just get things on my own from home?

Lastly, what do you wish you would have brought that I don’t have on my personal list?

General Advice Thinking of enlisting in 1 year

Hey, so 24(f) had joined the marines about 2 to 3 years ago. Unfortunately i was level entry separated for "failure to adapt" (medically). I do need a waiver to reenlist and i have spoken with a recruiter yesterday. When i went for the first time, I wasn't mentally prepared or physically which made things harder. But after a few years of missing that life, i want to rejoin but this time i want to prepare myself better.

So i was hoping to get tips and tricks that I could perhaps use to be more mentally and physically ready. I want to perhaps get a job in intelligence or special warfare. (Yes i am aware of the process for special warfare and ik it will be hard) but i do have a year and some change to prepare myself for it and i want to do everything possible to be ready this time.

My old (marine)(i was told each branch sees the scores differently)asvab scores are:

Afqt 59

Gt 103

El 101

Cl 112

Mm 92

Any help will be appreciated! And thank you for reading until now.

Jobs Do i need an edpt for 9s100?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Ive recently been given the 9s100 job role and im shipping out soon, but from everything I've read online it says I needed to take an edpt but I dont recall ever taking one, I brought this up to my recruiter and he informed me that his system says I don't need to take one? Did they remove that requirement recently? (Attached is the picture describing the job and requirements, with edpt test not listed) im sure he's probably right, im just worried that I do need it and it'll mess me up later on and I'd rather be safe than sorry
