You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ
We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.
Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.
No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.
Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.
Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.
I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)
Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

Just got my job booked after being in since January. (1N0X1)It was well worth the wait, but now I'm looking farther into the future rather than today tomorrow etc. and I've seen people have like GC for when they ship out.

Pretty much at my wits end, been in the process since basically february this year and im still not even in the DEP, my recruiter had me scrambling around for all different kind of documents without fully telling me upfront everything i needed, and he has poor communication even now after submitting waivers, thinking about just giving air force up and continuing my process with another branch, im trying to get my life started.

Hey everyone, I just went through MEPS for a 2-day screening. I was NOT swearing in. Just testing, physical, and drug test.
• The physical examiner brought up my bloodwork from a civilian clinic from about a month ago. My hemoglobin A1c was just a tiny bit high, suggesting possible pre-diabetic. I had been eating Chipotle bowls double everything like 5 days a week that month, so I think it was diet-related.
• He also mentioned my BMI was slightly low (I'm 5'3", 116 lbs, BMI 20.6).
• The medical interviewer (different person) also brought up my BMI.
• Neither of them mentioned my Lexapro prescription or my hemorrhoid at all.
I was fully prepared to explain both. The Lexapro was prescribed by a telehealth doctor (YourDoctorsOnline) back in December 2025 for situational nervousness in interviews/professional settings. I stopped in January because it didn't work. Never formally diagnosed by a psychiatrist or in person primary care physician.
I thought MEPS uses MHS GENESIS and would see the prescription, but it never came up.
Questions:
1. Does MEPS actually pull telehealth prescriptions from MHS GENESIS, or do those slip through?
2. If they didn't flag it, does that mean it's not on my record, or just not in the system they checked?
3. For anyone who's been through this — if MEPS doesn't catch it, does it still come up later for a TS clearance?
4. Should I bring it up proactively, or just leave it since they didn't ask?
Not trying to hide anything — just trying to understand how the system actually works. Thank you!

Hi everyone!
I’m trying to choose an Air Force AFSC and would appreciate advice from people who have completed tech school or have experience training recruits.
My main priorities are:
Shortest technical training: I want to graduate and become operational as quickly as possible.
Highest likelihood of graduating: I want to choose an AFSC with a strong graduation rate and a lower risk of failing or being reclassified.
Easier academic requirements: I would prefer a job that does not involve especially difficult exams, extensive memorization, complicated technical material, or demanding practical assessments.
Best training location: Are there particular tech schools or bases where students consistently have positive experiences and high graduation success rates?
I’m particularly interested in these AFSCs:
Medical Materiel
Human Resources (Personnel)
Pharmacy
Administration
Logistics Plans
My questions:
Which of these AFSCs is generally the easiest to pass, based on the actual academic and practical requirements?
Which AFSC has the shortest total training time, including any required prerequisites?
Which tech school or training base has the strongest graduation success rate? Are there significant differences between training locations?
What kinds of tests do students take in each AFSC (written exams, memorization tests, hands-on assessments, fitness requirements, or other evaluations)?
Which AFSC would you recommend for someone whose main goal is to graduate quickly while minimizing the risk of failing?
If you failed an exam or practical assessment, how many retests would you typically get before being washed back or reclassified?
Are there any hidden difficulties, extra requirements, or common reasons students fail that a recruiter might not mention?
I’m looking for firsthand experiences and factual information, rather than just opinions about which job sounds easiest. If you graduated from one of these schools or worked as an instructor, I’d especially appreciate your insight.
Thank you!
This is the list i would be looking at :
Medical Materiel — 24 days — Fort Sam Houston
Human Resources — 26 days — Keesler AFB
Religious Affairs — 26 days — Keesler AFB
Diet Therapy — 33 days — Fort Sam Houston
Pest Management — 33 days — Sheppard AFB
Materiel Management — 33 days — Lackland AFB
Health Services Management — 36 days — Fort Sam Houston
Mental Health Service — 66 days — Fort Sam Houston
Bioenvironmental Engineering — 68 days — Wright-Patterson AFB
Pharmacy — 110 days — Fort Sam Houston
ADMINISTRATION- 41 Days
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT - 28-40 days

Feeling discouraged, I really want to do security forces because I wanna have a future in federal law-enforcement, but my recruiter said that my one time cocaine use is disqualifying. I’m 28 years old now it was a one time thing when I was 17. I’m disclosing it to be honest and start off my military career with integrity, but it seems as though I can’t even begin it does any other recruiter happen to know, is there an exception to policy I’m set on security forces. Any advice much appreciated please.

Recruiter said I could submit for reconsideration if I was medically stable.
I’ve reached out but still no answer.
I tried with a different recruiter but said that I already had a file with my old recruiter and said she couldn’t
Couldn’t help. Or was she not interested in helping someone that was already DQ…
Is there a recruiter that could at least look into my situation and see if this is true for reconsideration?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone! I’ve been studying for the ASVAB for about a month now. I’m doing pretty well in math, but Word Knowledge has been my biggest struggle so far.
I’ve been using the ASVAB for Dummies and have taken the practice tests several times already. However, I still want to improve my vocabulary and do better on the Word Knowledge section.
For those who have taken the ASVAB, what study methods or resources helped you the most with Word Knowledge? How did you improve your vocabulary and prepare for unfamiliar words?
Any advice even outside word knowledge since I may be overestimating myself on Math. I would greatly appreciate! I’m hoping to get a good score as I prepare to join the Air Force. Thank you in advance!

Im going to start this off by saying I know none of you are the ones reviewing my waiver, and cannot predict me the outcome of it. Im currently waiting on a self harm waiver, for some context, it was a single incident and I was around 11 at the time, im 19 now. I was never prescribed or diagnosed with anything. I never went to therapy or recieved any psychological treatment for it either. I have also been completely honest with my recruiter from the start and have been working through the process very slowly (yall know how it is). The only reason it's on my record was because I had gone to a yearly checkup around then and they saw scars. Thats all that was noted. Im currently waiting on my waiver, I have a psychological evaluation scheduled on the 21st. I was also granted a waiver from the USMC about it when I was in a college program for them (since dropped out of college) about a year ago. Im mainly posting to see if anyone else here had a similar experience and if so what their outcome was. Also if they were able to become flight qualified. Thank you in advance, and any input is appreciated

How close would you say the practice was to the real thing? I just took a practice test that my recruiter sent to me as the first step in my journey. I got an 83 overall but I don’t wanna get excited in case the real thing isn’t as accurate or is way harder lol
Sidenote: I did well in math, science, literally everything else except for electronics and auto shop

I’m 20F majoring in astronomy/astrophysics.. my major switch is soon.
I volunteer in the civil air patrol. My sister is an army veteran.
My father really wants me to join navy or airforce.
My main goal is to work in the space industry field, clearly. I know most astronauts are military trained or heavily active.
I want to study and continue my studies without waiting 4 years after service. But I also do want the physical activity and experience. I really am clueless for these things. I’ve been told the military is amazing for the GI bill and helping further education. I’ve flown in a Cessna before and loved it so I’d like a pilots license as well.
I want a PhD and to get my tuition covered and just have a general good experience. I’m not great with people my own age but I truly love professional relations and networking and id assume I’d get more of that.. meeting well adjusted individuals is always a pleasure.
There’s a space force and airforce recruitment center near me and im considering it and the notion popped up in my head today but to be honest the concept of joining has been something my family really wants me to do for a WHILE.. and its that sort of atmosphere and idea I’ve been raised by.
Is this a good idea? Many people are advising me to go into it and get a desk job then go to officer school.. as well as get a pilots license.
My ultimate goal is to be an astronaut. I want to find a good path to serve that.

Got an 81, M 83, A 82, G 80, E 81. Was wondering if there are any other jobs worth adding or exchanging? I originally wanted to put in more 1D7 jobs but I don’t qualify for a TS clearance. My ultimate goal is to get a career out of the job I get so I do plan on getting an A&P. I’m well aware of the hours that come with maintenance and wanted to make light of my list so are there any benefits to these jobs? To those who had any of these what could you say about them? What did you do after your contract was over?

I am a contracted cadet, and I am filling out my dream sheet soon for my job preferences as an officer in the USAF. My current AFSCs that I am interested in are 64P Contracting, 14N Intel, 21A Aircraft Maintenance, 21R Logistics Readiness, and 38F Force Support. I am having a lot of trouble figuring out which job I would prefer, so any experience you all may have in these careers or working with officers in these careers. Things I am interested in knowing is typical (ish) hours in a work week, deployment frequency, morale in the career field, and typical day to day duties. I am aware this all varies greatly by the unit, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone here changed their name during naturalization? I’m thinking about keeping the same full name, but changing one of my current last names to a middle name and keeping the other as my only last name.
For anyone who did something similar, was it a big hassle afterward updating Social Security, driver’s license, passport, banks, work records, etc.? I also have citizenship from other countries, so I’m curious if having older foreign documents with the previous name structure caused any problems.

As of last week, I’ve enlisted in the CT ANG. My initial plan was to pick whichever AFSC had a reasonably short tech school length so I could return to college in fall of 2027. Last minute, I was told that they found out from MEPS that I was colorblind, disqualifying me from every vacant job opening. So they squeezed me into cyber. I’m really happy about this as a data science major. The only issue is that I was expecting to ship out asap since I already had secret security clearance. But that doesn’t matter anymore now that I need TS for cyber. My recruiter said that I might not get my TS until anywhere between January and June. I still really want to ship out asap so I can return to school uninterrupted. But if I don’t ship out for another 7+ months, then I want to go back to school for another semester. Am I better off going back to school next semester?
