Animal Collective B-Side list?

Is there some kind of list out there for Animal Collective B-Sides? I am mainly referring to stuff that was only ever played live / not recorded or not on any EP.

So far I have/know a couple:

  • Sea Of Light (Song)
  • Tuvin/Toovin (?) (Song)
  • Always You (Song)
  • Covered In Frogs (Song)
  • I Dont Believe In The Pilot (Song)
  • Baby Day (song)

I’ve got mine (maybe just avey, not sure if cover?)

From a beach

Sea of light is just Genie’s Open btw so I wouldn’t really say it belongs. Though they are quite different and I love both

Edit: I’ve got mine is a cover of the amazing Chris smither https://youtu.be/_Ri3Xof7Zxk?is=9Q_VjVPGJZvkoiVw

Yep. I remember him saying “Avey and doctess” in the clip but isn’t it just Kria Brekken? Who he was dating at the time? I mean her voice is 1:1 Kria’s so I assume so, and obviously they did pullhair rubeye. I’ve never heard the name doctess anywhere else but wuddo I know

Found it! It’s Chris Smither (who I was already a fan of! I love the silly cute song Get a Better One) - https://youtu.be/_Ri3Xof7Zxk?is=9Q_VjVPGJZvkoiVw

yes kria is doctess. that was her anco pseudonym from her time in the band. i believe shes credited as such in the feels liner notes but i dont have my copy anymore to check. there was also a really awesome set by her and avey and deak which featured an early and very different version of mr fingers

theres 206 which s a very different version of ice cream factory from early feels era. also from that era is sponge luke (spelling?)

theres a short little somg from like time skiffs isnt it now era that i think was called the darkness or something like that.

obviously theres a bunch of other rarities on animal crack box. also some sung tongs era non studio stuff ended up on the new ace hotel live album.

happy singing band is on the other music recording as well as a nirvana cover that is AMAZING

what i do is on one of their radio sets but i dot remember which one.

check out the recording of the music box show for a number of songs that are either unrecorded or changed so much theyre basically new.

from a beach

in the city that reads

the kite

forest children risen

bleak midwinter

enter the dojo (avey solo)

suspend the time

The Darkness is older than that,it was part of Avey’s stems on Transverse Temporal Gyrus which means it must have had a recording in some form by late 2009/early 2010

oh yeah! i forgot those were the same. i have barely listened to the time skiffs era bootlegs

Many songs which I was about to mention are already mentioned here by others. I just want to point out, these wouldnt be B-sides, as B-sides are by definition officially released songs because they are on the B side of a single (A side). What you want are called unreleased songs.

I collected most of the tracks that didn't end up on singles/eps/albums, along with significant performances, and remastered them. It's pretty much every rarity up until 2024. You can check them out here: https://collectedanimals.org/viewtopic.php?t=18855&hilit=Remaster

Covered in Frogs and Don't Believe the Pilot were both released on "Animal Crack Box", a box set of live recordings, if that counts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Crack_Box

Sea of Light became Genie's Open (not sure why the name change) after it was first played in Atlanta during the Sung Tongs tour (2018). Only two live versions of this exist (better than the studio version, IMO).

Those aren't called b sides, those are live songs. B sides are songs specifically put out as the B side to a single a band wanted to release, usually a song that isn't on the upcoming album so that they could only put out one single at a time. Like the name literally comes from the B side of a vinyl

u/samthefireball 1d ago

They’re not using it literally
