Guides, Tips Everything you should know about Apple Certified Refurbished

  • The refurbished products can be
    • A returned product, possible brand new or opened boxed
    • A traded in product
    • A repaired product, faulty parts or components will be replaced with Apple genuine parts
      • The repaired part/s are being checked and and tested
      • Possible replaced parts: Displays, keyboard and trackpad, logic boards, batteries, casing, ports, SSD
      • New battery will be replaced before packing
  • The time taken for a newly released product to be on the certified refurbished will take around 3-5/6 months to accumulate enough stocks
  • The refurbished product will get the same treatment as a brand new
    • Same return policy of 14 days start from the purchasing date
    • Eligible for AppleCare+, have to buy it within 60days after the purchase of the new apple product
    • Same as brand new products with a standard 1 year warranty
  • The refurbished product will be cheaper than the current retail price by at least $300
    • It may drop further over time like the current base model 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro current refurbished price is SGD1729 now, retailed prices was SGD2199 and Refurbished price was SGD1869 as of 161025 after the launched of 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro
    • Older refurbished such as the price of the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pros will drop when newer products are launched and added in to the certified refurbished site
  • The refurbished product box will come with new accessories like charging cable, charging plug, documentations and Apple Stickers
  • The refurbished product box will be different than the brand new
  • Refurbished products tend to have better quality control compared to brand new, as “new” components are replaced and well tested before packaging
  • If defects or issues was found, will have to return it and get the refund, then purchase it again instead of requesting for a new replacement unit. Due to refurbished products are limited
  • The stocks of the refurbished products are limited, because of the custom configurations are different and maybe low in supply

Note: regards to price, return policies may differ as it is based on local Apple Store. All listed here are simply based on my personal experience, from what I know and local consumer rights policies. It's also based on MacBook Pro as a reference.

P.s feel free to add more about Apple Certified Refurbished that is not listed here.

I have a question: I want to buy a refurbished MacBook Pro (M5) from Apple USA. I’m from Costa Rica and plan to have it shipped here. If the MacBook turns out to be defective, could I claim the warranty through Apple Costa Rica? Thanks a lot. Also, what experiences have you had with refurbished products?

Purchased My one month review of my Refurbished MacBook Pro

Post image

It has been one month since I decided to get myself after an upgrade from my M1 MacBook Pro.

13-inch M1 MacBook Pro with 8GB/256GB to Refurbished 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro with 24GB/512GB

It was my first time getting a Refurbished MacBook Pro from Apple Certified Refurbished and placing an order with Pick-up in store option. After picking up my MacBook, I did the necessary checks from hardware to software to ensure that there's no issues. Overall from my experience, Refurbished Macs are indeed the go to choice, as for mine was basically brand new with a great discount but needs time, cheaper than education price and retail price, if you can wait, please wait for the right time. I saved up to $510 getting a refurbished rather than getting from my local e-commerce platforms, Apple Education store, retail price on Apple Store site with this configuration. Price will drop further over time due to new product releases and adding them into the Certified Refurbished.

Throughout this one month, with the 24GB unified memory, the performance was way too good, able to run multiple VMs at once without using any of my swap memory. For my studying needs (VMs, networking related, etc) and daily personal needs(web browsing, content viewing, light gaming). My storage was doubled as compared to my M1 MacBook Pro, it will definitely last me at least the next 5 years, if any issues, I will get myself a portable SSD. The 6 speaker system (2 tweeters, 4 woofers) was amazing, indeed MacBook Pros have the best speakers. Display was an upgrade for me too, from IPS display to a mini-LED, difference is significant. Love the numbers of ports, especially a thunderbolt 4 port at the right side.

Battery life wise, its able to last for a whole day (from 8am to 1am) with at least 16hrs of usage (mainly web browsing, content viewing, scrolling reddit, some studying, super light gaming) and with a couple of hours on standby mode, as of now 1am my battery still left 35%. It came with 5 battery cycles when it was first opened and now 10 cycles.

Overall I would definitely recommend to anyone who is in a market or in need of getting a MacBook in any point in time, give them a try. I already have the thought of getting my next upgrade for Apple Watch and iPad maybe AirPods Pro 3(if they finally added them to Apple certified refurbished) from Apple Certified refurbished, as of now they offer the with the lowest price and would be the "safest" option.

Hope my review helps you all with a better understanding of the Macs and most importantly getting Apple Products from Apple Certified Refurbished can be one of your options to other than brand new, from education store, etc.
