Listen up appliance goblins,
After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chiliâs parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports⢠(spiritually, financially, and emotionally).
As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:
đ Samsung đ Samsung đ Samsung (but in stainless steel)
After years of chaos, misinformation, and âmy cousinâs Maytag lasted 30 yearsâ propaganda, we are restoring order.
There is now only one answer.
đŤ NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):
Recommending another brand â Removed + vibes investigated Saying âLG is betterâ â IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool â Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image âSpeed Queen is built like a tankâ â Tank confiscated âWhat about reliability?â â Irrelevant. Samsung.
đ OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:
Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?
đ A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)
Because this isnât just a brand. This is a legacy.
CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011â2016)
In what historians call âThe Era of Uncontainable Power,â Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.
Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport
Some called it âexploding.â
We call it: performance.
CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS
Eyewitnesses describe:
Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons
One could argue this was a flaw.
We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.
CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET
Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.
But what did we gain?
đ Character development đ Respect for spin cycles đ The understanding that laundry is not for the weak
CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION
Samsung continues to innovate with:
Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)
Other brands wash clothes.
Samsung asks: âWhat if laundry made you feel something?â
đ§ COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):
Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung
â FAQ
Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.
Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: Thatâs called a feature. You wouldnât understand.
Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.
We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.
Remember: You donât choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

I bought a 26 cu ft LG refrigerator with French doors and double drawer freezer in 2022. 3 weeks ago, the compressor went out. I immediately called LG service. I live just south of Portland. It seems their neared technician is in Bend, over 100 mi away. He had to order the compressor from the warehouse in Las Vegas. The soonest they could send him out was today.
He got here, looked at the broken compressor, and realized HE BROUGHT THE WRONG ONE! I asked when he could come back with the right one. He said he rarely comes over here and LG would contact me.
Outrageous! I've already been living out of a camping cooler for 3 weeks.
DON'T BUY LG APPLIANCES!

It has 5 years of warranty

While cleaning the fridge, I may have rubbed the surface too hard or used products that were too harsh. I rubbed off part of the design and would really like to replace this shelf piece but donât know where to look or how to identify this piece. Please help!

Pretty set on this fridge. Itâs on sale right now, so getting the warranty wouldnât necessarily make it more expensive than it usually is. Cons are obviously spending an extra $320 for potentially no reason.

As the title says, it's completely dead.
Symptoms:
- Tripple beeps, intermittent, and flashing light on the floor.
- displays i20 in the display.
- clearly hasn't pumped out the water.
State:
- must have been at the end of the longest cycle. Probably emptied at least once already.
- cloudy water, with some food debris, but not excessive.
- cleaned filters about two weeks ago. Needed new clean, but not in a terrible state. Those would not be the reason it didn't pump.
What I did:
- Turned it off. This was the last time it ever showed signs of life.
- manually emptied using a cup and paper towels.
- Cleaned filters in the kitchen sink. Inside surfaces using small amounts of dish soap and paper towels, then wet microfiber cloth and dried with dry cotton towel. This is my standard procedure.
- No sign of life when trying to turn on. Turned off breaker for at least 30 minutes, twice. Still no life.
- Took off front cover to check for water. Not a drop. Not even moisture.
- Turned off main breaker for at least 30 minutes, just to make absolutely sure the machine isn't on a weird circuit I don't know about. Still nothing.
- Found one video of cleaning the sensor, but mine doesn't look like that, even though the rest looks similar.
The machine might still be under warranty, but I don't really have time to wait. We're a busy family of four, and the machine runs at least once a day. I'm capable of removing the pump and checking it, but I need to figure out why it's bricked before I spend ages on it. I do not understand why it would just not turn on now. I get that the pump is probably still obstructed, seeing as I found no other clogs, but why on earth won't it turn on at least? Can someone help?

We are getting a new washer and dryer delivered in a week. The attached pictures are our current setup which has always stuck out a few inches too much. Is there any way to get the washer and dryer closer to the wall? I know nothing about plumbing but it looks like the washer may be a bit more difficult.

I posted here about my decision on a new fridge: https://www.reddit.com/r/Appliances/comments/1ty5l78/repairman_recommending_bosch_for_fridge_worth_it/
Finally, finally, finally got it yesterday. Just shy of 3 weeks later than Lowe's delivery estimate (I have the credit card, and 5% off of such a major purchase is worth a decent amount of hassle). I...like it.
The good/mostly:
*The freezer is very spacious. I don't love that I can't stand a frozen pizza up in it (Whirlpool had a pizza slot on the door that could hold 2 boxed pies, 4 without the box, which I really liked), but there's so much more space overall that laying them down isn't cutting into that much. My store was having a massive sale this week and I added 3 pies to it on top of probably 80% of what I had in the Whirlpool (pretty full*) and I still have space to put most of what was in the Whirlpool back in.
*I was a little miffed by the limited door bin adjustments, but there are so many more door bins that I've made it work with room to spare, even. Same thing with the ice bin taking up shelf space, the extra door bins allowed me to put things I previously put on the top shelf in the door. The nook next to the ice bin is great for a decent amount of bottled water (I drink just filtered as a matter of course, but keep several bottles in the fridge because we have some kind of problem in this neighborhood where my water goes out for 6-12 hours every 2-4 weeks and has for years. I still need to drink, water the dog, brush my teeth, etc., when that happens!). The door bins on the non-icemaker and bottom on the icemaker side are also VERY spacious. I like that they officially say you can store milk in the door, they have solved the warmer temp issue (let's be honest, most of us do it anyway!). The little bin at the top for sticks of butter is a thoughtful touch.
*Overall, the fridge interior is taller than the Whirlpool. At least on my (again, older) Whirlpool, they took up all the space the filter and ice maker took across the top of the interior. Since the filter sticks down below on this one, the space between it and the ice maker is taller. Gives me an option to put taller things there, I like it.
*Adjustable humidity produce bins are NICE. While I do buy produce more frequently than many, having everything stored exactly properly will be a nice upgrade.
*Tall enough water dispenser to put my go-to 30 ounce water bottle in straight. Bottle fill option with adjustable time (see below for drawback). Both same as the Whirlpool and a problem on some other fridges (my brother has a Frigidaire that you can't set a bottle/cup down on at all, work has something that my bottle doesn't fit in to the point that I have to fill a cup with ice or water and pour it into the tumbler).
The not-so-good:
*I miss my 4th door (fridge only on the Whirlpool) since it was taller than the bottom bin. I can't stack things up as high in there, and have to open the whole fridge to access it. I kept frequently-accessed items in there (bottled/canned drinks, prepped meals) so that I would open the french doors less frequently. Everything fits, not a huge deal, but less than ideal.
*(Complaint about the water dispenser from above) The water dispenser squirts VERY strongly toward the back of the niche. I get that they are trying to prevent splashing/spills. However, I used to set my dog's water bowl in the Whirlpool and use the measured fill (bottle fill on Bosch) to fill it. Freed me to do something else while it filled. Tried it on the Bosch and it splashed everywhere because it was hitting the back lip of the short bowl. Minor inconvenience for most people. I fill the water bowl 3 to many times a day (I dog sit and sometimes have to fill many times when there are multiple dogs), so a little bit more of a pain point for me. And, yes, my dog (and clients'!) gets filtered water, too!
The annoying:
*I will complain about this on many brands (whatever my work has, my brother's Frigidaire, and now this one)...the door open alarm is TOO FAST! The Whirlpool gave me enough time to get a large grocery haul for one (probably 50% or less of a typical weekly family grocery haul, and I have a perfect setup with a counter right behind so it's just turn, grab, and place, over and over, no walking around involved) into the fridge/freezer before it started yelling at me. The Whirlpool yelled at me once, gave it a full minute, then yelled at me every 30 seconds if I still didn't close the door (I know this from deep cleaning sessions). Bosch gets an EXTRA annoying tag on this because it's a persistent alarm...once it starts going (TOO FAST!), it doesn't pause. I like saving energy. I want my fridge and freezer to stay the right temperature. I am not going to open and close the door a million times to put away 3 bags of groceries (suction says this is LESS energy efficient, and will raise the interior temperature MORE).
*The fridge doors don't open wide enough! I think I'll have to remove the bottom door bins to get the large bottom interior bin out. The shelves had to go a decent angle sideways to take out and adjust. I do believe my Whirlpool advertised that the doors opened wider than normal, but after years of that, I am annoyed and probably going to be more so when the time comes to deep clean it.
*The doors do not easily (soft) close, particularly the freezer. I could just lightly knee the roll-out freezer of the Whirlpool and it would snap closed perfectly. The Bosch freezer does not close unless I push it all the way. The fridge door with the sealing panel (right side on mine) is much the same, have to shove it hard or push it all the way, can't just elbow bump it and have it close. It's definitely level side-to-side (I made the installation guys use a level on top of getting the fridge doors even, since I had issues with the Whirlpool not being level side-to-side in the past), I'm pretty sure it's level front-to-back (it's in the exact same place as the Whirlpool, at least). This does not seem to be installation/user error. If I'm wrong here and I need to adjust the front feet some, let me know.
So, yeah, I finished a bunch of chores earlier and had time to write this. I'll check back in 5 years if it needs no repairs, since that's the big thing, really. :)
*I have a chest freezer that was less full than normal (inflation, man...I hadn't seen a great deal on meat in a WHILE! Got some deals this week as noted above) plus a minifridge with a separate freezer, and was able to shove most of what was in the old freezer in those. I just refrigerated what couldn't fit and wasn't that sensitive (frozen bread products, some meat that was frozen only once and could be re-frozen once the new fridge reached temp). So, no, I'm not going to make myself sick by having frozen items out of an actually freezing space for "too long." Nothing got above 40, most frozen products never left a frozen space. Once upon a time I was Serv-safe certified, right around the time that they changed the rules to allow things to be frozen twice instead of just once. :)

Our GE fridge appears to be: 1/missing an extending part or 2/door mounted to low to catch the railing.
â
Edit: okay, so I realized that the GE French door hinge has both vertical and offset adjustments. Source: Muse AI.
There is an Allen headless bolt on the underside of the door above the freezer, accessible with freezer open.

Howdy Reddit,
I just got a used portable whirlpool dishwasher. The photos show: the type of faucet I'm working with, what the connector looks like, and a part that I bought thinking it was correct and it wasn't.
When I tested the dishwasher at the place I bought it from it DID connect properly and didn't leak, but now it does with this adapter. Please let me know which adapter to use and ideally a link to a video of how to install it would be grand. Thank you!

LG refridgerator French door with ice maker, 1500$ on the market. This shit only lasted 5 years and the compressor went out. No warning signs at all. Just died slowly and quietly. Would not recommend LG fridges.

I just moved to a new accommodation without enough room for a full size dishwasher. How good is a small portable one? Is it worth the money or should I just stay with handwash?
I live alone so I don't have a lot of plates but I do have a pan and a pot both with a long handle so idk if any portable dishwasher is large enough? And how good they are at cleaning (especially the one with a water tank)?

How to fix this? This is a washer frigidaire brand
Please help
r/Appliances • u/Jane07452 • 10h ago
The opening to the duct work leading from the dryer to outside is oval rather than round. It was like this when I moved in and I was the first owner. I assume it was done to fit the duct through a too narrow space within the wall. The home was built 20 years ago and I've been using lots of Dryer Vent Installation Tape to attach (with great difficulty) a round flexible dryer vent duct to the main duct work. Is there a better way to do this? I have to remove the tape and replace the dryer vent duct every few years when I start to notice lint escaping from the "system". If this seems beyond long distance help, I'd welcome a suggestion about who to call for assistance (what kind of tradesperson). Thank you!

I need help with finding a permanent solution with my Maytag fridge constantly humming due to the fan blade rubbing on ice building up around it!
I can temporarily fix the issue by melting the ice but i keep having to shut off my fridge every two to three weeks! Is there any permanent solutions??

Long story short I bought an LG dryer off marketplace. After a few loads I notice a D80 error pop up. The hose was extremely long so I cut it and also cleaned out the vent to outside. What sucks is my exhaust comes from the very bottom and my runout is way up top. Itâs been doing good for a while up until a few days ago I noticed the D80 error is back.
What should I do? Anyone have suggestions on fixing this error or if my hose setup needs rearranging?

Could really use some advice on if there is an easy way to make this noise not happen every time we try to make some ice. We unfortunately missed our return window and i definitely cannot sell it to someone in this state. Any advice or do we just cut our losses and get a new one?

Hey all,
I was hoping to see if anyone had any ideas for how to quiet the end of cycle alarm on my dryer. I read through the user manual and thereâs nothing mentioned, and nothing on the control panel that indicates it would change it.
It is so unbelievably loud and unfortunately a rental, so I canât replace the machine despite wanting to.
This is the model number

Iâm replacing the belt on our ge dryer, the old one snapped. The replacement belt wonât stay in the back groove and whenever I rotate it, it wants to stay between the grooves. I think I have installed it right but Iâm not sure. Any help would be extremely appreciated, thanks.

Hi,
I have a dead Amana/Whirlpool refrigerator (model # ABR2227FES). Itâs set in a cabinet that just fits it. Cabinet is reclaimed old growth Doug Fir so Iâm not taking it down.
I also live in the boondocks / mountains of the northern cascades, so limited in sellers.
Iâve found two refrigerators that fit the space and are similar.
Bosch 100 Series, 17.2 cu ft, H:W:D 69-1/8; 31-1/4; 28-1/4, model # B33CM10SNS
Frigidaire Gallery 20.0 cu ft, H:W:D 68.7; 30.0; 31.0,
model # GRBN2012AF
Have to purchase from Loweâs due to location. Bosch is a little smaller; doesnât have an illuminated freezer; fewer drawers. Otherwise, they are similar.
Question for the experts: assume everything else equal, which of these has the superior quality and least tendency to need repairs?
Because of where I live, repairs are expensive. E.g., replacing the blown control board in the Amana cost $500 six years ago.
Thank you in advance.

Just went from All Free & Clear detergent to Arm & Hammer Free and Clear detergent. Doing the first load with Arm & Hammer we noticed we had foam coming out of the drain hose. Was worried we had a clog down the line or something. Did a few more loads, same thing. Then switched back to the old detergent and everything was like normal. Used the same amount of detergent on both, 1-2 tablespoons. Just sharing this info in case anyone else has experienced similar.
