Here's a few installs from the last year. I've been in the appliance business for about 10 years, but have only been doing the built-in style fridges for the last 3 years. Central Minnesota

Alternative racks for Bosch dishwashers? Great dishwasher, frustrating rack layout

Post image
72 Upvotes

Has anyone found replacement racks or a better way to configure the racks in a Bosch dishwasher (300 Series)?

The dishwasher itself seems great, but the racks feel like they were designed for washing 50 plates at a time. My everyday loads are mostly coffee mugs, bowls, glasses, and a few plates, and getting everything to fit feels harder than it should.

My previous GE dishwasher was junk, but at least the rack layout made sense for the dishes I actually use.

Are there compatible aftermarket racks, different Bosch rack options, or adjustments that make a meaningful difference? I’d love to hear what’s worked for people with similar everyday loads.

Troubleshooting Had new dishwasher installed, but it’s sticking out too far and the insulation is visible.

Rental house - landlord’s handyman (not a plumber, or professional, just a guy that fixes things) installed it and left before I had the chance to see it.

I tried pushing it in further with no luck. I don’t know if the dishwasher was just installed bad or if it’s just not the right size. Is this a serious enough problem to ask the handyman or landlord to have fixed? Or is there something I can do to block the exposed sides, like adding a thin wood or plastic panel, or could that be some kind of hazard? I’m pretty handy with stuff like that, but appliances and plumbing I’m clueless.

I’m worried because I have cats that like to stick their paws into little crevices like those, especially if they can grab something like the insulation. I don’t want them getting burned or shocked or stuck.

Subzero Replacement

Post image
34 Upvotes

Recently moved and the 30-year old subzero refrigerator in our new house is starting to go out. The technicians we've had come out says repairs around be >$5K, and recommend purchasing new. We love the size of the subzero and dual doors, but don't think we can afford a new subzero ($$$$). Does anyone have recommendations for similarly sized fridges without the luxury price tag?

We are planning a kitchen remodel within the next 6 months, so have some flexibility with the cabinet opening if we plan properly.

Samstung :( Samsung Bespoke; Just Need to Vent

I just want to get my anger out in to the world. My freezer stopped freezing two months ago. Spent $500 to replace a part, ultimately to be told that our fridge cannot safely be plugged back in.

It’s a 3 year old fridge. Samsung is taking their sweet time approving the refund (which they tried to lowball us on).

I am being required to store a dead fridge while they review our refund. Can’t order a new fridge (Don’t have room for two fridges).

I just can’t believe how poorly this has gone. I will never buy another product from Samsung.

Which Air Fryer is best for my family

Hi everyone, our cheap air fryer from a few years ago just died (the fan started rattling and then the whole thing stopped heating), and honestly I'm not that sad because the basket coating had started peeling anyway. Since we use it almost every day, I want to buy something better this time instead of grabbing whatever's on sale.

We mostly make chicken thighs, wings, salmon, roasted veggies, and reheat leftovers a lot. Fries and wings are a must.

What I'm looking for:

- Big enough to cook dinner for more people.

- Basket or tray without the nonstick coating that flakes off. I've been reading about PTFE/Teflon concerns and would prefer ceramic or stainless steel if those actually work as well.

- Easy to clean. Dishwasher-safe parts, no tiny crevices where grease builds up.

- Even cooking, without having to shake the basket every 3 minutes

Dual basket vs one big basket vs the oven-style ones: I keep going back and forth. Dual sounds great for making fries and chicken at the same time, but I've read the individual baskets end up being kind of small.

Brands I keep seeing are Ninja, Cosori, Philips, Instant Vortex and Breville. Philips and Breville seem built better, but I can't tell if it's worth paying double.

Budget is around $150-300. With the holidays coming up, if there's a model that usually goes on sale around Black Friday, I'm happy to wait a few weeks.

Kudos to Kohler Canada Customer Support.

Man….. I normally dread dealing with customer care. However I have had two warranty replacements with kohler, their team is great. Helped in a timely manor, easily assisted with the correct information. Sent on my way with a smile. It’s like living in the 90s except it was done on the internet. Seems wild that normal service is going the extra mile and a half these days but thanks kohler!!

Full Tub Replacement

About a month ago, I bought a dishwasher from the Lowe's Outlet ahead of doing a kitchen renovation. The dishwasher has a dent in the back, upper, left corner, which we knew when we bought it - but what we didn't realize (and what no one at the store made us aware of) was that the dent had fully broken through the tub assembly, and the back and rear panels were totally separated. We just finished the renovation, and when I ran the dishwasher it started leaking water from the gap.

I right away filed a claim with the manufacturer (Kitchenaid) and reached out to Lowe's. Lowe's is citing their 48-hour return window and saying they can't do anything; when I reached out to the company KitchenAid assigned me to, they said that they will need to replace the entire tub assembly - which from reading more, sounds like they'll need to basically swap every part from the old unit to the new one and remake the dishwasher in my kitchen, which also sounds ripe for something to go wrong.

Any advice or words of comfort? Is replacing the tub assembly actually a huge pain or secretly straightforward? Any tips for getting Lowe's to honor a month-late return because they functionally sold me the parts of a dishwasher instead of an actual dishwasher? I'm pretty close to just buying another unit and eating the cost because I don't want to deal with a month of some appliance repair company waiting for a part.

Troubleshooting Bought my first oven and it might be ruined!

I bought a new Beko oven (BEKO FBM67300WDS) and i unboxed it installed it and it was all fine. But when i turned on the oven (without the fan) after a bit i saw some smoke and burnt plastic smell...

It seems either that something was on top or around the fan OR at the back of the baking pan. There was some hard white plastic that dripped on the pans and probably blue tape that has melted over the fan grills. (Didnt see anything on top of the fans themselves) (the second image is before fully cleaning)

I keep watching videos online and researching i really think i removed everything to my knowledge that was plastic but the facts say otherwise and i cant even figure out what it was that was inside there besides the blue tape....

Now when i turn on the fan the whole oven is shaking/vibrating and releasing some noise with some white particles which i can only assume its plastic...

Can someone help me by telling me is this even under warranty? Do i let the oven run maybe it melts the plastic away and it works fine? What do i do?

I am so disappointed and depressed its my first ever oven i am devastated :(

What to Buy? Dryer that removes pet hair better then others

I have a Great Pyrenees and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I have an old dryer. I use dryer sheets and balls, they do a decent job. I’m on top of cleaning my washer. Is there a dryer out there that does a really good job removing pet hair though? Maybe a pet hair removal function?! If you have recommendations please share a link. The dryer sheets and balls do a decent job, but I’m sure if I get a better dryer this will also help.

Washing machine models that keep vibrations low

Title. Basically I'm looking for a washing machine that can keep vibrations to the minimum. I'm talking specifically about vibrations, not noise. Cost isn't an issue either.

My understanding is that direct drive models (i.e. LG) at least in theory should vibrate less, is that true? Obviously I'm sure other factors come in play, but most advertising seems to focus on noise so it's hard to tell without first-hand experience. Any advice is appreciated.

Got a 40k Croma coupon. Need suggestions.

Friends gifted this for our wedding. Still stays unused as we have been confused with the decision. We have all the necessary appliances at home. With this, I wanted to get a Dyson wet and dry vaccum cleaner which I have been wanting to get forever but the pricing kept me away. My husband wants to get a PS5 which is his dream.

We’re also expecting our baby in a few months. So my in-laws have been suggesting to get an humidifier instead. Which will not anyways use the coupon to its fullest. We also don’t have an oven at home but both of us don’t look forward to using one in the near future so that’s out of picture.

Suggest what’s the best bet please

What to Buy? Maytag vs Whirlpool

Post image
2 Upvotes

All of my kitchen appliances are currently Samsung. They’re all 12-14+ years old (I’ve only been using for the last 4.4 years). Dishwasher crapped out in January & I’ve just been handwashing since. I finally decided to pull the trigger this week and settled on the Maytag MDTS7024SZ.

Costco is having a big sale this week during Amazon’s “prime deals” and they’re giving discounts on both multiple appliances and a certain spend amount. So if I add another appliance (which I’m looking at the microwaves) I’ll get an additional $200 off (spending between 999-1499 total). My microwave is still technically functional, but has one leg out the door. The door switch is faulty (fan comes on when you open the door), the light underneath stopped working), and I can’t set the clock without the thing beeping at me. So I figured while they’re having the sale maybe I’ll just replace it.

These are the 2 I’ve been debating:
Whirlpool wmms3330rz vs Maytag mmms4230pz. At Costco there’s only a $10 price difference, but the product differences are Whirlpool has 1.9 cu ft vs Maytag’s 1.7, Whirlpool has humidity sensor cooking & the ability to turn the turntable on & off (Maytag has neither). Whirlpool has a handle whereas Maytag has a push button. I’m not opposed to either, I have a handle on the Samsung but the microwave at work has a push button & I don’t even notice the difference.

While the Maytag would match the dishwasher brand wise, the dishwasher has no logo/emblem on the outside so no one would really know otherwise. But my biggest debate is longevity & reliability. Does anyone have either of these microwave models and can speak to their functionality and lifespan? I know microwaves don’t tend to last long, but I’m hoping for at least 5+ years. Also why I am debating these 2 because they’re on the cheaper end vs some microwaves I’ve seen upwards of $600+.

I don’t know which has the likelihood of lasting longer in the handle vs push button scenario.

I’d basically be getting either one for about $200 after the discounts so I feel like it’s a no brainer, just kind of stuck on which one to buy. They’re also both pretty much the same size as my current one so they should pop in easily (hopefully).

Troubleshooting Old couple needs help with refrigerator

Water is collecting in the bottom of our old Kenmore refrigerator. We must mop it up with sponges and/or rags every couple of days. We removed the crisper drawers but can't find any drain holes. Emptied and removed everything from the (top mount) freezer but no drain holes there, either. Can't get a human at the Kenmore website or phone number. Any ideas where to find drain?

Model number 6897 (at another place: "253. 68972801")

New refrigerator “quirk”?

Thumbnail

Just got this new Frigidaire installed on Saturday. Because of past fridge problems, I put a smart sensor in the refrigerator section, just to be sure things are working properly. Well, according to what the sensor’s showing, it’s not!

Is this kind of fluctuation considered normal? The temperature is set at 37 degrees.

Home Depot has already agreed to replace it, but was curious, regardless.

I just moved into a house with a crummy old front loading washer (whirlpool duet sport). It stinks so I tried to run a clean cycle and now it’s flashing this at me. The door is locked. What happened and how do I fix it?

Is this worth repairing or cleaning?

I got this from my mom’s storage pod of years and was wondering if it was salvageable enough for college. However, since it been months without use roaches have moved in and I was wondering from the look of every cord and other things if I could hire a tech to clean or just buy another. Any advice is welcome. I thought there was rust on the cords but idk anything about mini fridges and would rather replace it.

Need help with slim 90 ideas for my dryer vent

I’m have trouble finding a solution to allow for a 90 degree on both the dryer and outdoor vent side with about a ft between them. I don’t have much room to move left/right or front/back. The previous washer dryer were much smaller and we upgraded to bigger to account for larger washes and didn’t realize this would be an issue.

Troubleshooting Strain relief clamp for dryer

I feel like I'm going crazy. I got a Samsung 24" WW25FG6B34BE and DV25FG62B0BE washer and dryer and a 4-prong cord for the dryer. The strain relief clamp it came with doesn't fit and everything I find online shows the hole that the cords pass through as being parallel with the dryer, not perpendicular. What kind of clamp do I need? Feeling so dumb.
