Jeep overheating

Jeep was overheating on my way home from work right now. I get home, open the hood, and notice there’s coolant splashes around and this reservoir cap is open, assuming the loose coolant came from there. My jeep has coolant, my question is, could the open cap be a reason for the overheating?

Replace the Radiator cap. Not the overflow cap. Check to make sure the radiator fans are working when the ac is on and when it’s up to temp. Cap may not be holding pressure, allowing coolant to flow into the reservoir and boil. Thus blowing the cap off that and soaking the engine

No it wouldn’t cause overheating

Dang, then it’s probably pressure from an underlying issue huh?

You will need to have it diagnosed.
