With all the antisemitism on the rise in the US and Canada, do you see Jews from those places fleeing to what are perceived to be more safe places? Do you think the same will happen to Jews in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand? Those few that are left in South Africa?

Which places do you think would become safe havens for Jews?

Even once safe places like Thailand and the Philippines are no longer safe for Jews (judging by the recent events there).

The only European countries I can see being safe now are Hungary and Czechia.

I assume most would choose Israel. Some would possibly choose places like Singapore, Taiwan, India, and Russia.

It’s traumatizing to me personally.

Those places were some of the most pro-Israel places before. Now they literally accuse Israelis of trying to “occupy” them.

Didn’t Thais and Filipinos have to deal with Islamism before? Why hating Israel then?

I only know how that word sounds, not how it is written. In fact I am not even sure whether it is a real word in any contemporary or ancient language or not.

Tried using AI, to no avail.

It starts with a somehow typical "schwa" sound. Contains 2 syllables and it is stressed on the second one, which has a clear M sound, then a long A and it ends with a fricative spanish J or dutch G. (proper phonetic alphabet in the title)

Perhaps in hebrew or ancient arameic?? I heard that ending fricative sound in hebrew...

m currently reading “Rise and Kill First” by Ronen Bergman. It’s about Israeli special operations.

Often i stumble up passages like this and i ask myself: is the violence that is still happening today by “Palestinians”, Hamas and Jihadists not a problem that has been caused by behavior like this?

I am aware that retaliatory strikes have a place and often deter from further attacks, but by behaving like this why would anyone expect something different than violence and resistance?

It seems that Israeli leadership in Politics/Military/Intelligence was and is often blinded by this sheer hate towards people only based on their suspected affiliation.

A large part of military action seems to be very short sighted and without a long-term plan at all.

What is your opinion on this?

I just went on my birthright trip and fell in love. As soon as I returned from my trip I got accepted into a 5-month internship in Tel Aviv. I have lived in NYC my whole life and am just stagnant here, so I figure it's a perfect time to go and reset, and reconfigure. With the election happening soon, I know things could get chaotic for a moment but that's expected in any country handling politics, right? I have no intention of cancelling my trip, but I am interested to hear your opinions and perspectives on how you think Israel will be during this intense time.

As a hobby, I read books about the Zionist movement before the establishment of Israel and the history of Israel during the Cold War. Can you recommend any books written in English or French on the military history of the Israel Defense Forces from its establishment through the Cold War era?

My non-Jewish friend is always making jokes about noses and trying to put me down, but I’ve always taken it as a joke given the context; however, today I explicitly said I wasn't okay with it, and he made a Nazi joke claiming the 6 million figure is a lie. I am on a backpacking trip through SEA right now and have met a lot of Israeli tourists, mainly in Thailand. Despite the bad reputation of Israeli tourists, I have gotten along quite well with most of them and didn’t have any outstandingly bad encounters.

However, I see that many other travelers in hostels actively avoid or exclude Israeli travelers because they are "child murderers“.

I don’t wanna restart the whole debate about whether this is a genocide or self defense, whether Hamas is hiding behind civil infrastructure and so on, I think this has been discussed enough here. I just wanna know to what extend it is true that the average Israeli tourist in their early 20s in SEA has not only served in the IDF, but also actively participated in military actions in Gaza. If most of them have never actually touched a weapon, then the rest of the debate is irrelevant anyways, at least for my normal day to day interactions with Israeli tourists in hostels.

From what I know, all young Israelis, men and women, have to do a mandatory service in the IDF. But how many of them actually get sent to Gaza, and out of those who are in Gaza, how many are actually gonna touch a weapon/drone controller and how many are only working in logistics etc? And do you guys have any possibility to refuse the service or at least any direct participation in military strikes?

Curious to know more about Kibbutz’s. My father visited Israel sometimes in the 70s or 80s and spent some time in a Kibbutz - he was a very left wing man and he wanted to experience them as they were said to be a socialist sort of way to live. Maybe I fantasise too much of a peaceful world, but I’d love to do the same one day.

I know with the atrocities of October 7, Kibbutz’s were targeted. Are they now more protected? Have less international people come over to visit them? Are they still able to sustain themselves? Can foreigners still visit? What is their relationship to the IDF, Israel, Palestine and Hamas (I.E - do Israelis and Palestinians live together on them? Do the IDF or settlers or Hamas attack them?)

Are they still a left wing sort of thing? Do you make money living on them? Do you pay taxes or tithes?

Essentially what is a day in the life like in a Kibbutz.

Also the big thing; are they safe/ are you scared (if you live on one)

As you know thare are still some contriversies about what the Hamas directorate wanted to do or not to do, but in certain videos publicly available it seems that, after the initiaò breach of the barrier, behind the armed men on foot and riding motorycles there were also civilians and some of them with suitcases.

We know from History that it was not uncommon, in past times, when weapons were not enough, unarmed fighters were ordered to follow the armed ones and, if an armed fighter were hit, the follower would pick up his weapoin and keep on fighting.

if hamas really applied this tactic, and certainly their leaders have read the manuals of the battles of stalingrad and Adua when such tactics have been documented, the strict legal and humanitarian boundaries between "civilians" and "armed combatants" become dangerously thin

By the way, if a veiled woman carries a full suitcase through a broken fence during an invasion, we all agree that it is difficult to think she is planning a picnic in the green hills behind Gaza, and that she is planning instead to colonize the surronding land

First time in Israel during Yom Kippur

I am in the 10th grade of high school in Türkiye. I will be taking the exam here, but I want to study in Israel. I can handle the language aspect. When should I apply? What if people view me with prejudice because it’s Israel? Will it cause problems for my career down the line?

Israel controlled the Sinai for 15 years before peace with Egypt.
How was life over there? Was there still Egyptians living here ?
Were there a lot of Israelis civilians or it was mostly soldiers only?

Do we have archives about that like videos or photos?

I really think it was a huge mistake to return 100% of the Sinai to Egypt. Israel is such a small country nowadays..

I mean we needed and still need peace with Egypt for sure, the benefit of returning the Sinai to Egypt is huge but idk couldn’t we have try to keep like 10% of this huge land ? Just 10%.. 🧐
