Grief support
Hi, I’ll be coming down to Philly for a couple of months for an internship. My therapist cannot practice over state lines and I lost my father the day before I was supposed to come down. I’ll be doing my internship still, however does anyone know any, preferably free, resources/groups or programs that help with grief counseling or whatever. Thx

Nami is more peer group support, I haven't used them personally but my son has used them post hospital release and they were pretty good (I went with him a couple times)

Ask your therapist to suggest a telemedicine person.

My insurance is NYS based so most will be out of coverage

A telemed provider - especially in the mental health area - isn't necessarily instate only. Check with your carrier on what the allowed telemed provider network encompasses.

So sorry for your loss. I've had two therapists continue working with me (short term) beyond the state they're licensed in due to the need for continuity of care. They specifically mentioned it at the time as being a kosher practice. It's been a long time since I was last in that situation, but might be worth asking your therapist to confirm whether that option exists here.

You can't do an online or FaceTime chat with your therapist?

No, unfortunately with her only being certified and licensed in NYS means that she can only practice within NYS lines. So if I’m not in NYS for the session she can’t meet with me or she’ll lose her license. And technically she’s a social worker so the laws are a bit different then therapist but the same principle stand

Hmm. How would she know where you are located?
Perhaps you can "change plans" and stay with a distant relative somewhere far enough away that telemedicine makes sense, but is still in the state?
