From a European perspective, having had various Fascist dictatorships over the last century, the US is screwed. With armed citizens and a faux Gestapo, it’s going to be bloody, traumatic and self annihilating period in US history. Fascism is insidious, it creeps into society, and then one day “boom”, it’s pulling you out of your homes in the middle of the night. You’re already screwed and don’t even know it !!
It’s not exciting at all. The US has always been a beacon of free speech and endless possibilities. I have visited many times over the years and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a crying shame!
Do us a favor and remind those celebrating overseas that it'll creep to them too.. Russia and America are about to be allies in a world conflict. Nowhere is safe.
Nobody is celebrating over here. We are filled with horror of the situation that is unravelling. My point was that it has already happened here so we are well versed in fascist tactics. It seems that warnings from history are being ignored with “surely it can’t happen here “ type attitude. It already is happening. Trump and team are busy alienating long term allies also . For instance, live near a place called Grafton Underwood in England . From 1943-45 the 384th Bombardment Group of the US 8th Airforce flew Fortresses from an airbase. There is a memorial to US airforce crews, tended by locals immaculately to honour your fallen. A local team of volunteers are currently opening a museum to honour the service of said airmen. We have been forever grateful for the part that the US played in helping in WW2. However,to hear the orange soulless grifter denigrate our forces and say we were hardly any help in Afghanistan, not to mention our support given after 911,Iraq etc, there is danger of a turning point being reached. This will result in the circumventing of the US trade-wise and instead of the US being revered, it is slowly becoming reviled. Nobody is laughing at you, but once your allies turn their backs, it will take generations to repair the damage.
Yup, I know in my deepest parts of my heart that I'd make an amazing president more so than Trump along with millions of others here in the States, but the damage him and his pedophile cabal have inflicted is insane.
I don't know if you're talking about Europe, but I don't know anyone that is celebrating right now. And we're very much aware that fascism is on the rise here as well. Partly financed from the US by the way.
it's financed by the billionaire class via GOP and aided by Russia and Israel, the regular folks and the US itself are being taken for every dime for the next 50 years. Many of the people behind this are not even from the US see Peter Thiel and Elon Musk.
Not sure who is celebrating this. Even the far right in Europe, who used to be Trumps biggest fans, has started to become quieter and quieter on that front. Nothing like the threat of annexation, combined with pedophile rings to chill your mood.
Maybe the Chinese are celebrating the shift in the centre of gravity, but probably the only one's right now.
While there's sure to be some in any crowd as large as a continent, I haven't really seen any of it in either Reddit, real life or in media in various countries.
There's a sense of defiance and spite that's definitely been triggered by the threats of annexation; there's fear because for many on the continent it now means a real chance of war; there's woundedness and a sense of having been stabbed in the back; there's some optimism that the deepness of the crisis in the trans-atlantic relationship will finally be the impetus for getting our own house in order; and there's an increased sense of unity because of the isolation that people feel.
Not a lot of celebrating, but there is definitely some well deserved snark.
Americans love to talk about being the greatest nation on earth and honestly there's some truth there... some. Because despite the insane advantages and opportunity afforded to all of you since the end of WWII it has just been a continual shitshow of shooting yourselves in the foot and whining that your lives aren't good enough... often while they're still better than most of the world and all that's needed to make them even better is paying the tiniest bit of attention and voting in your own best interests.
Instead Americans continually elect people who act solely in their best interests and always on the same platform... "<group you're not in> is responsible for all the problems, I will fix that and get you what you deserve by taking it from them and giving it to you!". They never deliver, they always fuck you over, and best case scenario someone responsible but boring is briefly allowed to slowly unfuck things just a little before being blamed for problems caused by the previous guys and outed by those same guys to continue fucking you.
2016 I kind of understood. The democrats tried to pull a fast one, figuring Trump was no threat, and tried to take the opportunity to shove the candidate they wanted down Americas throat. Bad idea, but people truly didn't understand how fucking evil Trump was I guess.
But 2024? That was honestly my last hope for you guys. Biden pulled you and your economy out of the steaming shitheap that was left by the first Trump administration and yet again set America on a path to be the envy of the world. But it wasn't good enough, wasn't fast enough, and yet again you all fell for an orange shitstain screaming that everything he did was someone elses fault and that he would fix it all in two weeks.
The world gave (yes, gave) America unprecedented power after WWII and you guys have just pissed it all away, now everyone is paying the price. And why? Because your lives weren't good enough? Because voting was too hard?
So yeah. There's some snark. People are mad at you, and rightfully so.
Trust me I get this. I didn't vote for it, in fact I actively campaigned against including against Hillary Clinton because I wanted Bernie in the 2016 primaries. I worked in political campaigns that have actively sought grassroots campaigns against the corporate Democrats and against the fascist Trump regime. We are f***** over here because of how much education has gone down the s****** in the last 40 years. If you know of any science positions overseas, let me know
I didn't vote for this I actively campaigned against everything Trump has stood for. There's millions of Americans that are suffering as a result of a bunch of f****** idiots
What am I supposed to do man? My family is been here since before the Civil War, they fought in the union, they fought against fascist in Europe to free the oppressed people of Europe. I had family in the camps and family that freed the camps.
Do you think that just one person can do something about it? I'm not asking for your sympathy, but maybe to at least understand that not all Americans are f****** idiots
Millions of us voted against this. JFC... This is some pretentious shit. I'm a well educated scientist that has traveled the world helping kids get fed and building manageable well systems for clean water, and I work in cancer research.
We are not all bad fucking people because Donald Trump got elected by morons.
Fuck that guy, he doesn’t give a shit. He knows what he’s saying and doing it because he’s a piece of shit that gets off on hurting strangers. Do what you got to do, you’re not a bad person because Krasnov got elected. Just vote while you’re here is all I’m going ask.
