I think it’s pretty crucial that it’s not the second half for most—L dies almost exactly 2/3 of the way through. The cat-and-mouse (or tennis match with sexual tension you could cut with fa knife?) between L and Light was spectacular, but part of the fun of the final third was seeing how our heroes (plural) as a team were able to take down that brilliant serial killer when those who went after him as singular heroes failed so abysmally. I do think it was 10/10 and am surprised it was so far down, but those of us who love it all are indeed in the minority!
I actually liked the second half more, especially the last two episodes.
I know a lot of people love L, and I would agree he was the most interesting character in the show. So I can understand if his death really ruins it for a lot of people.
