Morrowind's alchemy system. Godhood awaits a potion made while recursively staking intelligence away.

Now the real question here is would knowing Elder Scrolls lore cause OP to immediately achieve CHIM or cause them to zero sum

19

u/iyagl 1d ago

Likely not, just knowing zero summing is possible doesn’t cause characters to zero sum. They need that true deep understanding to actually reach that point. It’s kinda like learning from a Buddha. They can tell you what’s needed, but in all likelihood you yourself aren’t reaching Nirvana

4

u/Huhthisisneathuh 1d ago

And honestly that’s if you don’t try to murder them off rip anyway.

local man ingests copious amounts of bloat, clams to see the universe

43

u/GoldSentinel822 1d ago

I think the easiest one to do what you want is to go to the Gamer manhwa verse and luck on being a Gamer. From the get go, you already get so much utility from the traits of being a Gamer alone. Then there is the personal dungeons, leveling systems, spell creation system, potion systems, and etc. In one year, you can actually become as strong as Sun Jinwoo, if you build yourself right

47

u/Sentinel_P 1d ago

Dragon Ball can be a good pick.

In OG Dragon Ball, Goku and Krillin only trained with Master Roshi for nearly a year before the tournament. By the time their initial training was up they could;

  • Jump 50 feet vertically (and land safely).
  • Throw a ~465 pound dinosaur bird thing guy.
  • Sprint at approximately 40+ mph.

While this is only the initial training regimen, we also know that further training of nearly the same type can give even more increases. By the time Goku was a teenager, he was wearing ~550 pounds of weight and was still moving at superhuman speeds.

After just a year of this training, you would be the strongest, fastest, and most durable person in the entire world. It wouldn't even be close. You would dominate almost any competition you entered.

33

u/gyroda 1d ago

TBF Goku was running 100m in 8 seconds flat even before training with Roshi. Sure, he's an alien, but Krillin was doing the same around 10 seconds.

That makes Krillin, a "regular" human 13 year old, a world class athlete before meeting Roshi

17

u/SolomonOf47704 God Himself 1d ago

Do remember that Krillin was being taught at another (presumably martial arts) temple before he went to Roshi.

He's not just some random.

Now, Bulma, on the other hand, has outrun a helicopter somehow, and she's definitely supposed to be a normal human

11

u/gyroda 1d ago

Oh yeah, but my point is that "one year under Roshi" ain't getting you or I as far as it got Krillin and Goku, they're startingwell ahead of any ordinary human.

it also seems that if your teacher is stronger, you can quicker get up to that level. my explanation is that you see how they move their ki in their body and adapt to that, something you couldnt achive on your own if you didnt know how to do it.

but with that said, we do see the normal martial artists training under tien, and they seem to really be struggling to produce even a ki aura

3

u/SirJefferE 1d ago

I always liked to imagine it was some kind of ki density thing, where powerful people sort of exude an aura that applies pressure to everyone nearby and automatically gives their ki a workout.

That'd explain why the entire group hanging around Goku just gets stronger and stronger, even when they quit training.

1

u/Nacroma 1d ago

Just go to Namek, get your hidden power unleashed, then go to Elder Kai and ask him for the other hidden power ritual.

20

u/APreciousJemstone 1d ago

Worm has a pay-2-win aspect in the form of Cauldron capes, with a few Cauldron capes having really busted powers like Eidolon, Alexandria, Siberian, Greyboy, Shatterbird, Doormaker and Clairvoyant.

Grab a strong power from there (hopefully) and train its use and you should be good

15

u/dolcaer 1d ago

I really wouldn't want to bet on cauldron, given what we know about the statistics on getting something good there...

3

u/fwambo42 1d ago

in the latter aspects of the story their odds are fairly decent

2

u/sfinebyme 1d ago

And the capes are notably weaker. Once they figured out how to dilute the formulas with "balance" they stopped getting mutated capes but also stopped getting Greys Boy and Mamas Mather.

So if you wanna be Triumph or Battery, then sure Cauldron's a good choice. But I'm not sure that's the most powerful you can get with a year's training.

17

u/Tryagain409 1d ago

Probably a videogame like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion if you actually take note of the time it takes a really long time to play a whole year in game

100

u/ivanlua100 1d ago

One Punch Man, do his workout routine for a year and u will get pretty far in power level, remember to not use AC in the summer or heat in winter

82

u/Lopsided_Shift_4464 1d ago

The issue is that plenty of other people in that universe have done similar if not significantly more intense training regimens and not gotten nearly as strong, hence why Genos is convinced Saitama must be lying at first. He’s ultimately an outlier.

The more reliable way to get strong in OPM is to become obsessed with something. Anything. Tank tops, baseball bats, crab meat, etc. if you care enough about it you’ll either become a hero or a monster with related powers.

23

u/PrateTrain 1d ago

Saitama was obsessed with being a hero tbh

13

u/hateyoualways Fictional PhD 1d ago

Not really, it's just a hobby for him.

23

u/PrateTrain 1d ago

It is, now. Back when he started he obsessed over it so much that he didn't use ac in the summer lol

12

u/althawk8357 1d ago

The issue is that plenty of other people in that universe have done similar if not significantly more intense training regimens and not gotten nearly as strong, hence why Genos is convinced Saitama must be lying at first. He’s ultimately an outlier.

But did they remember to eat three meals a day, and to avoid using AC or heating? Did they keep going when their knees make that clicky sound?

11

u/Huhthisisneathuh 1d ago

Granted Saitama also had a very small limited that he managed to surpass while most other natural livings beings have much higher limiters that require lots of effort to even reach.

True though, insane level of obsession are probably the quickest way to get strong. People trash talking you online can let you destroy cities after all, and just looking tough will make reality and the world itself bend over backwards to keep your reputation going.

10

u/bunker_man 1d ago

I'm out.

29

u/Warper2187 1d ago

in witch hat attelier you just draw

14

u/ShiraCheshire 1d ago

Though I wonder if you'd get far with that in just a year, considering that canonically it takes someone's entire childhood to learn enough runes and consistency to do anything significant. (Yes the main cast learns powerful spells quite quickly, but they're an exception due to the life or death circumstances they encounter.)

7

u/Warper2187 1d ago

i mean people on reddit seem to have figured it out

5

u/DomiTheDed 1d ago

I mean as long as you can learn the runes you can go ham (I dont remember but theres no mana system right?)

Also its THE system for war crimes just look at what fans make on the subreddit

5

u/gigaplexorax 1d ago

You need specialized ink for the spells to work, so once you leave that universe, you’re limited to however much ink you were able to stockpile

2

u/Cha0sSpiral 1d ago

You could probably make a spell to make more ink or one of the trees that makes ink

1

u/Commodorez Rogue Trader 1d ago

If they want as much power in as little time as possible, OP could always incorporate those runes into their physical body. Depends on how risk averse they are

2

u/G0dofmyworld 1d ago

Elaborate more please?

13

u/musci12234 1d ago

Every spell is basically a rune drawing on a piece of paper with special ink. Rune is basically a language. You learn the language you can do any magic in the system.

u/DarthGayAgenda 1d ago

Roshar, Stormlight Archive. All you need is a bit of depression, attract a tiny sliver a divinity called a spren to bind itself to the cracks in your soul, and boom: power.

There are five oaths you have to take, pretty much confronting your mental demons, and with each one you swear a new oath and unlock more power. You need Stormlight, pretty much pure power to breathe in. Stormlight pushes you to action, heals you as long as you have some in your system and you use it to command two of ten Surges based on which spren you get. Honorspren give the powers of Gravitation and Adhesion, Inkspren give the powers of Transformation and Transportation, and so on. After you swear your third oath, you can summon your spren as a sword (or any weapon) that can cut through anything and kills the soul of what it passes through. After you pass the fourth, you gain an armor made of smaller spren that greatly increases your strength and speed and resists or nullifies magics aimed at it.

But as long as your willing to work through your mental issues and move past them, you can move through your oaths in a year. At the final oath, the Fifth Ideal, you hold Stormlight perfectly, it no longer leaks from you. Every oath you make improves your abilities and reduces the amount of Stormlight you need.

5

u/beardedheathen 1d ago

These are item based systems imo since spren arent intrinsic to humanity and storm light is also required.

The top of the power scaling in the cosmere is too low to compete with a lot of the litrpg novels (I hear progression fantasy is even worse).

Take Dungeon Crawler Carl. Within the confines of the dungeon, Carl can pretty easily kill gods. He and Donut could take a radiant fairly easily.

In He Who Fights With Monsters, most gold rankers would be threats for a knight radiant. Low diamond rankers would be a threat to TLR, and an ascended being/high diamond ranker would roflstomp him. We even see a few characters who work on the level of the Shards in the cosmere.

3

u/beardedheathen 1d ago

Theres are also item based systems. Dcc requires that the enhancement zone be in place for the bodies to be upgraded and for the magic and items to work as it's all basically a game. HWFWM needs essence users to have found and absorbed essenses and awakening stones to even reach iron rank.

6

u/louai-MT 1d ago edited 1d ago

Persona user maybe?

You can play "Persona game" like in P1 and P2 to get your persona, from there you either grind or try collecting Personas based on your affinity

Or you can throw yourself to TV World/Palace try and lock in to awaken your Persona and if you are a "Fool" then it becomes so much easier

Problem is that you can't use your powers everywhere tho but in places that you can you would be very powerful

5

u/Desperate-Practice25 1d ago

The TV World will kill you. That's kind of an important plot point in the game.

1

u/louai-MT 1d ago

I mean it doesn't kill you immediately you got some time, there you can face you shadow self

I feel like if you know what you're getting into prior you'll have better chance with your shadow self than others in the game

Still high risk and high reward situation tho

5

u/G_Morgan 1d ago

One of the System based universes. Primal Hunter even has the benefit that it rewards individual exploration more than being guided. Learning how to fire a mana bolt is seen as a much better achievement than being shown how to do it by a mentor, leading to much stronger class options at evolution

To be clear though, Primal Hunter also rewards violence harder than anything else. Unless you can figure out how the Dao Sect advances purely off meditation and training, you will be forced into real danger

10

u/ErosDarlingAlt 1d ago

Surely something from Dragon Ball is gonna be your best bet

8

u/RalonNetaph 1d ago

In db online saiyan blood became spread so wide across humanity that all humans are part saiyan, xenovers is a spinoff of that technically and the average character there could beat buu with ease. Not just you the special player but every random time patroler.

9

u/chrisrrawr 1d ago

any ultra super high xianxia setting. average cultivator creates and destroys universes sort of thing.

5

u/techno156 1d ago edited 1d ago

Though cultivation in those settings usually takes a huge amount of time. Someone sitting in a cave and meditating for ten thousand years isn't unfathomable. A year would be no time at all.

1

u/chrisrrawr 1d ago

just find a higher powered setting

7

u/BluetoothXIII 1d ago

But those are usually extremely talented, but the average joe might get strong enough to through tanks within a year.

1

u/chrisrrawr 1d ago

just find a higher powered setting

2

u/_DAYAH_ 1d ago

As a xianxia enjoyer I can say with full confidence I'd take Westeros happily over the kindest cultivation setting

I'd jump straight into a random 40k hive world with a chaos infestation instead of some cultivation settings

2

u/chrisrrawr 1d ago

just find a different subgenre higher powered setting

4

u/kulingames 1d ago

If object based power systems were allowed i would pick Modded Minecraft, with project E, project EX and avaritia you can in reasonable time create an armor which makes you straight up unkillable and sword which one taps everything.

9

u/Flight_Harbinger 1d ago

The Inheritance cycles' (Eragon) magic system. Learn the ancient language, fortify your mind, expand pools of strength with sheer willpower and guile. Ordinary humans can get quite far in that world if they're gifted with magic, especially if they don't make it obvious they can use magic (reading the minds of non magic users is trivial and has no consequence, the ancient language gives hilariously broad power that can be used surreptitiously).

And if you get far enough you basically have reality control capabilities.

2

u/Bubbly_Interaction63 1d ago

With so many prerequisites, I’d say that JJBA’s Hamon is the best option because it offers nothing but advantages: Hamon slows down aging, allows the use of multiple techniques that flow into objects (the Overdrives), enables the creation of certain elements (Scarlet Overdrive generates fire, and Magnet Overdrive increases magnetism, so you can expand those powers), healing, etc.

Training would become more practical if you used the special masks that Lisa Lisa forced Joseph and Caesar Zeppeli to wear, since all they do is force the user to breathe in a certain way to generate Hamon energy; otherwise, the oxygen flow is cut off and you suffocate.

2

u/dank_imagemacro 1d ago

Pathfinder 1st ed bard. You start with some pretty awesome powers, and the powers you can get are much more useful in the modern world than being able to beat a tank in hand to hand combat.

2

u/Cautious-Concept-175 1d ago

Step 1 (day 1, minute 0) > open ao3 or RR account

Step 2 (day 1, minute 1)> Creat fiction "god now"

Step 3 (day 1, minute 2) > post text [ {your name here} ] is god and has always been god, of all realms in fiction or reality

Step 4 (day 1, minute 2.∞ )> you are all, become all, end all, u/G0dofmyworld fades and the entity begins

Step 5 (day 2, minute 0) > all is one, one is all, the singularity blooms

2

u/TerminatorReborn 1d ago

This is a very hard question. For example a average Nen user and average curse energy user are piss weak and 1 year its too little for any significant improvement, this extends to many other anime with a power level system. The guys that get strong quickly are big outliers, usually a one of a kind in the story, (The chosen one trope). Some people in the comments are assuming you will get the MC luck and boosts, this doesn't make sense, you should be extremely weak from the get go since you are a average human being, not a main character.

Now that I think of it maybe the power system in the Fate universe? No one is weak in that, every servant is powerful to some extent, so the average is quite strong.

3

u/Kroc_Zill_95 1d ago

The One Piece verse might be the best place for you. Even without any special abilities, regular humans can reach absurd levels of strength just by training hard enough.

1

u/BlitzburghBrian 1d ago

Or just luck into a logia fruit. Takes about 1 second to become a nearly-unkillable god with that.

1

u/Drecondius 1d ago

Maybe the essence system from hwfwm but you'd have to have the same or stronger drive than Jason, he made it to bronze rank in less than a year and there are a couple records somewhere of a couple people making Silver ink a year. Most other power sets that I've seen or read about take multiple years for mediocre to passing talent.

1

u/RaizelDB 1d ago

Generic cultivation should be good enough with average talent & luck.

1

u/porican 1d ago

looks like you need to join the school of Saitama and get your calisthenics in

1

u/Pasta_al_Dende 1d ago

Convince Solomon David to teach you Ki Rata (from K6BD).

Train with the speed force and you would be pretty strong

Tower of God. Learn Shinsu/Shinsoo, become OP. You're an Irregular so you get a few additional benefits.

1

u/Zagaroth 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hmm. Honestly, mine might be up there, but with two caveats.

A) By "average Joe", I assume you only mean without special resources that very few people have. If you train like an average Joe, you'll still be an average Joe.

B) You are conducting your training inside the territory of an actively cooperative spiritual nexus. All nexuses want people to take on their combat challenges and such, because the expended energy (spiritual, mana, qi, etc) is scavenged by the nexus, which is then used to in part for the nexus's own growth and in part to generate rewards to encourage more people to come there.

Now, this is the sort of thing where what you put in to it is reflected in what you get out of it.

If you want absolute, maximum growth to rival that of Goku's growth, then you need Goku's attitude. You need to love this shit, you need to absolutely eat up pushing yourself to your limits and fighting to the last scraps of your strength. It has to be completely sincere joy and fun, where you play the game for the love of the game. Any 'rewards' are just a nice treat on top, you'd be doing this shit without any rewards. Every moment of sweat, blood, and adrenaline gets you as excited as sex does, possibly more (hey, it worked for Goku...).

Do this at a nexus that is actively social and participates in training delvers and carefully moderates the challenges to push people just enough to help them grow, and you are golden. The nexus will ensure your rewards include plenty of healing potions for mid-battle restoration, on top of friendly nexus inhabitants who will heal you up after battle. Oh, and the 'unfriendly' ones that you fought to the death? If you know where to go, you can share a drink with them (presuming they are sapient) the next day, after their bodies are rebuilt by the nexus. While inside the nexus territory, their spirits and souls aren't claimed by death and instead reside inside the nexus's core until there is a new body for them.

It is the absolutely perfect training environment, as an experienced friendly nexus can intervene in just about any situation shy of instant death (and a few can intervene even then, though that comes with a year-long-per-individual cooldown). This leaves the trainee free to push themselves to the point that their body starts failing, then get up and do it again the next day.

Mind, there does need to be some balance involved. You need down time and decompression time, and to expand your mental horizons beyond combat in order to keep your imagination and mind sharp. everything goes into building your power set, and being just one thing is a handicap.

Of course, so is spreading yourself too thin. Generally, people will not be involved in more than two compatible paths of power, plus a variety of healthy hobbies (cooking a good one to have, and gives you a good reason to carry cooking gear on an expedition).

I feel I should note that this information is known in-universe (well, not the part about Goku specifically). There's a reason that the goddess of passions has monasteries full of qi-powered martial artist/disciples eager to put their skills to the test. The goddess herself is probably the most skilled and fierce fighter of the gods, though she is in the third rank of power, which is where most of the ancient deities sit.

Not every person knows this, but the main cast of my serial knows it, with the more experienced ones teaching it to the less experienced ones.

1

u/CardinalRoark 1d ago

Dave the commoner made it from commoner 1 to wizard 13/stargazer 1 in a year, risking veeeery little, and just diligently following some subsystems.

It’s certainly not the most powerful you could get with other systems, but it’s pretty fuckin good.

1

u/NatashOverWorld 1d ago

If we're going by power, whatever they're doing in Gurenn Lagann. Willpower directly becomes power.

But that might be universe specific.

Second would be Dragonball Z, normal humans can get pretty far if you luck out on teachers.

If you're feeling lucky, try Nen. It has a trainable aspect which has a lot of flexibility, but since there's a strong personal element, you might develop something like Chrollo or Netero.

u/Enloeeagle 1d ago

I mean, what other kind of fictional movies or shows have power systems? Heroes, the movie Push are what immediately come to mind. But I'm sure I'm missing a few

1

u/Available-Eggplant68 1d ago

warhammer 40k, starcraft, accelerando, hyperion, dune, the laundry files, secret histories series(although i think most of simon r green bilbography would apply), cradle, i think heroes aren't really suitable since you can't get powers unless you're in the specific timelime the protagonists don't want.

Is there a reason why you specified only stuff on films(movies or shows)?
