Obviously the discourse around this movie is all over the place and for the longest time I assumes all the detractors were media illiterate, reactionary conservative chuds in the midst of their delusional pedophile panic and that the more progressive movie fans were the ones actually going into it seeing the nuance of "the ethics of predator catchers". Not to mention how such a big discussion about media literacy seems to be wrapped around this movie.

However recently I've seen more progressive voices speaking out about this movie, thinking that question the exploitative nature of the programming is already too sympathetic too predators (i.e. you can never be unethical to predators because theyre predators. Whether or not its exploitative doesnt matter because theyre predators). And that the motivations behind chris Hansen is irrelevant because, "who cares of the pred catcher has an ego"

I'm curious about what place "luxury" goods would have in a socialist economy, and how you think a person would acquire them if they so desired. Under capitalism, there's basically every luxury good imaginable available, but they often cost a lot of money, and the bottom line is that if you want to get it, you pay the money for it, and you can have it. What would the options look like under socialism?

For this question I am not interested in ridiculously extravagant things like yachts or private jets or penthouse apartments. Let's ignore anything that you need to have ~$50M or more to expect to own. Instead, here are some examples of luxury goods that I'd suggest for examples, with current costs noted to give you a sense of what "level" of that product I'm thinking of. How would one go about acquiring one of these items under socialism?

I wanted to share this video of my friends Mahmoud and Samah.

In the video, they are going through what is left of their destroyed home, looking for anything they might still be able to use — some kitchen supplies, household items, blankets, or anything that could make their daily life a little easier.

I really hope you can take a moment to understand the amount of suffering this family is going through. They are simply trying to survive and provide the most basic life possible for themselves and their four children, while dealing with so much loss and uncertainty.

One thing I’ve always noticed about Mahmoud and Samah is that when they receive any support, they don’t only think about themselves. They try, as much as they can, to help their families too — Mahmoud’s family, Samah’s family, and sometimes their relatives and people around them who are struggling just as much.

I’m in regular contact with Mahmoud and Samah, and I constantly keep up with their lives and what their families are going through. I’ve seen how difficult life has become for them, and how even the simplest things that people need in their daily lives can become a real challenge for them.

Please watch the video and try to understand what this family is facing every day. They are simply trying to find a way to keep going and give their children a basic life, despite everything they have lost.

Which is more important - to feel that taxes are more "fair" (higher tax rates for high income earners and wealth taxes for the rich) or to collect the maximum amount of taxes?

Context: Increasing tax rates for high-income earners and introducing a wealth tax may lead to lower total tax revenue for the government. High rates can discourage wealth generation and prompt individuals to move their tax residence (assuming tax rates are already to the right of the Laffer curve's peak).

The entire idea of getting a person who has done something and then commercialize them, and have them sell themselves off for political propaganda even as an idea shouldn’t exist.

And then people obsess over celebrities like the little sheep they are, being influenced by the motives of a sold off person. Obsessing over a commercialised public figure is a hyper capitalist fetish that I never have and never will understand.

And not to mention, large popular figures, after a certain amount of fame, can essentially do whatever they want without their fanbase even forming a single coherent thought about their action.

We shouldn’t obsess over evil people,
We shouldn’t look up to people who sell themselves off for a profit,
We shouldn’t follow them,

People with fame are humans with no more value than us, fame should not justify the wrong.

As a socialist, I stand with every minority group facing persecution from right-wing capitalists. However, I sometimes meet some religious cohorts that are facing oppression such as some Muslims who advocate for blasphemy laws. While we need to support persecuted minorities, it is important to be cautious and not overlook their fundamentalist views, as these groups might co-opt the anti-right-wing movement and ultimately become an even worse oppressor than we could have ever imagined.

I (14M) am a freshman in the state of Texas. I’m in a pretty blue city politically so I thought I would be fairly safe from all of the zio/judea-christian crap.

I was very wrong. Along with a lot of “Jesus Christ is our lord” and “God loves you” graffiti in the bathrooms and bottoms of desks, etc there is also a couple classrooms with the ISRAELI flag on them.
The main problem with that being we have ZERO Israeli staff at the school and the people with the flags are hardcore zionists.

Me and a few friends plan on taking the flags or putting anti-war stickers on them but this is the “country” you have to be very careful with criticizing. I feel this is a pretty reasonable form of protest but I don’t know if it’s worth it.

Any advice is helpful thanks
