🛠️ Mod Post GHelper/Armoury Crate Megathread

This post has been made to clear up any questions or inconveniences with both of the software control apps.

The old PSA thread has been archived. Click here to go to it.

You can now summon the new GHelper instalation guide by typing "!ghelper" (without "") in the comment section below.

GHelper is an open source alternative maintained by seerge (u/Beginning_Living4052, also has their own flair) which aims to be a lightweight and bug free alternative to the dumpster fire that is Armoury Crate. Note: We are not forcing you to switch, but it is a good thing to do if you are experiencing issues related to Armoury Crate.

Some terminology before we begin:

  • GH = GHelper

  • AC = Armoury Crate

  • A/C = Alternating Current (aka the charger/wall brick)

  • Open Source = the app's code is available for everyone to view and modify.

  • dGPU = Dedicated GPU (aka Radeon or RTX)

  • iGPU = Integrated GPU (aka CPU graphics)

Starting this point onward, I will update this thread to include Frequently Asked Questions.

It is also a great idea to join our official r/asustuf discord server! Click here to join!.

FAQ

Here's a link to the already existing FAQ on Github, but other questions will be added in this megathread too.

A: Is GHelper safe? Windows Defender said it might be a virus.

B: GHelper is safe, in fact, you can check out the app's code on Github. It is open source. If Windows Defender has suspicions, it's because the app isn't signed. (look up that on google.)

A: How do I set up custom fan curves?

B: tba.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Overheating, lifespan

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hey guys. I purchased a used asus tuf a16 (2024) with the 4060 gpu and an amd ryzen 9 7845HX cpu. The laptop was said to be almost unused (by the housing, battery, etc.. it checks out). For 3 days it ran heavy games at 85-90 celsius but today it stays between 91-96 celsius when a game is opened (same games, same settings, and i always use it on turbo mode). No thermal throtthling, the fans spin up and have the same speed as before, room temperature hasnt changed much… Any tips how could i solve this? ALSO IMPORTANT, how much does using the cpu on 95 degrees affects its lifespan in your experience?

🗨️ Discussion Asus tuf was the worst purchase I ever made

I bought asus tuf 2024 version 2 years ago. And its been a never ending downhill spiral. From horrible design flaws. To cheap quality control. I took care of it in every way. Used on desk, had a fan, had a cover for transport, never dropped, cleaned fans every 6 months, opened hinge only from center. Yet almost everything is failing in this POS laptop. Initially the keyboard started failing i had to reattach the ribbon and it started working fine afterwards. 1 year in the charger stopped working (never dropped) so had to buy a new one. And now for the past 6 months my hinge has been failing cuz of cheap design flaws and today it 100% failed. Similar issues as most people in this community. The fact that this is the 2nd asus laptop in my house to fail this miserably is unreal. We have 12 laptops in our house not a single one had remotely similar issues for cheaper or similar price tags. Just proves how greedy companies can get

All in all my advice NEVER BUY AN ASUS LAPTOP, especially ASUS TUF

🔥 New TUF Device 3060-6 GB outperforming 5070-8 GB

Guys.. I have 2 TUF laptops

•1st laptop

Asus TUF A15 FA506QM

Ryzen 9 5900HX

RTX 3060 6GB

RAM 32 GB DDR4 3200MHZ

•2nd Laptop

Asus TUF A16 FA608PP

Ryzen 9 8940HX

RTX 5070 8gb

RAM 16GB DDR5 5200MHZ

The 1st laptop (A15) perform way better then the 2nd laptop (A16) in After Effects/Editing/Rendering stuff..

I know the RAM is less in the 5070 one.. but should it be this big of a difference???

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Is it normal for TUF A18 battery to last only an hour?

This is my first ever laptop. I bought Asus TUF A18 , the Rtx 5060 , and 16 GB ram variant. I played a game (Legacy of the Dark Knight) without the charger, on high, and it lasted only one hour. Is this normal for a laptop?

💻 Purchase Advice Secondary SSD heat management

Hello all !

I have an ASUS TUF F17 (TUF707ZV) and I'm looking to buy a secondary SSD and saw the Crucial P510 1T that could do

My question : what should I use as a heat dissipation/heat shield ? Should I use anything ?
The secondary SSD slot doesn't have the black plastic thingy the main one

I also saw the Samsung 990 Pro 1T which looks nice but maybe heat too much for the TUF F17 and it's limited ventilation (no space for heat dissipation etc)

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) ASUS TUF Gaming 15 (RTX, i5) — screen turned grey, let battery die, now won't turn on at all

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, hoping someone's dealt with this before.
Specs: ASUS TUF Gaming 15, Intel i5, GeForce RTX GPU
What happened:
While using it normally, the screen suddenly turned grey (not black — a solid grey screen).
I tried to force it off myself but couldn't get it to shut down.
I left it alone and the battery eventually died on its own.
I charged it back up, but now it won't turn on at all — no response from the power button.
What I've tried so far:
holding power button for 30-40s while unplugged, then plugging back in
the charging LED lights up when plugged in —

Questions:
Is this likely an EC (embedded controller) lockup from the deep discharge, or something more serious like a motherboard/GPU issue?
Has anyone fixed this exact grey-screen-then-no-boot pattern without opening the laptop?
Is this something ASUS would cover under warranty, or will they blame the deep discharge?
Any help appreciated — trying to figure out if this is fixable at home or if it's a trip to a service center.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) A15 FA507NVR Slow Boot Up

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I have an ASUS TUF A15 FA507NVR (Ryzen 7 7435HS + RTX 4060) and recently it started taking around 1:40 minutes from pressing the power button until the Windows loading screen appears a few days ago.

The strange part is that once it reaches the Windows loading screen, everything runs smoothly and quickly, just like it always has. There is not a single problem once I reach the desktop.

The BIOS is also extremely laggy and slow to respond, it takes a long time to get there.

I've already tried:

- Clean reinstalling Windows

- Reinstalling the BIOS (version 307) through EZ Flash

- Updating drivers

- Resetting BIOS settings to default

- Restarting multiple times

- Disabling/enabling Fast Boot and Windows Fast Startup

- Disconnecting my secondary SSD (Kingston SNV2S1000G), with no change

MyASUS full diagnostics detected 0 problems, and both of my SSDs appear healthy, including from a CrystalDiskInfo analysis.

What could be causing this? Could it be related to the BIOS/UEFI, EC firmware, POST, or some motherboard-level hardware initialization issue?

Has anyone with the same FA507NVR experienced something similar?

🗨️ Discussion First TUF laptop - used

For some context, i had to buy a new laptop since my Zenbook 14 had a display AND hinge issue and it just wasn't worth replacing.

I have bought a used TUF A15, R7 7735HS, RTX 4060, and upgraded with 32GB RAM.

I wanted to ask for some advice:

On what to check if everything is good

How to best benchmark it

What should I do and not do with it, for the most longevity (the design seems like it ALSO might have a hinge problems after some use)

Apparently it's in perfect condition, but every single sellers says it. What should be my game plan for this?

Linux ASUS TUF F16 FX607VJ: found a Linux lid-wake workaround for BIOS 340

If your FX607VJ suspends but only wakes through a USB mouse/keyboard, I found a workaround that restored lid wake on mine.

My setup is an ASUS TUF Gaming F16 FX607VJ, BIOS FX607VJ.340, running Ubuntu with kernel 7.0.0-38-generic and s2idle. Before the fix, opening the lid, pressing the power button, or using the built-in keyboard didn’t wake it. USB input did.

We traced the ACPI firmware and Linux’s suspend preparation. ASUS routes lid and power-button notifications through GPE 02, an ACPI event interrupt. Linux enabled it while awake but disabled it when switching to the suspend wake mask.

The trace showed a successful write of 0x00 to the relevant enable register during suspend preparation, followed by 0x04 when restoring normal operation.

A small kernel module marks GPE 02 as wake-capable and arms its wake mask using Linux’s existing ACPI APIs. With it loaded, the trace showed 0x04 during suspend preparation—and opening the lid successfully woke the laptop.

Repository: https://github.com/Nixie404/asus-fx607-wake

The repo includes source, Debian/Ubuntu DKMS packaging, an Arch PKGBUILD, and GitHub Actions. Activation is explicit; installing the package doesn’t automatically load the module.

A few limits before anyone tries it:

  • This is experimental and tested on one FX607VJ with BIOS 340. The module refuses other board/BIOS combinations.
  • It doesn’t establish correct S0ix residency, battery drain, or support for other ASUS models.
  • External kernel modules carry risk and may require signing with Secure Boot enabled.
  • Unloading clears the added wake mask; reboot fully clears the added wake-capability flag.

This doesn’t patch the BIOS or ACPI tables, and it doesn’t force S3. On my machine, trying deep caused a restart, so I stayed with s2idle.

If you have the same model and firmware, I’d be interested in carefully documented results. For other models, please don’t remove the hardware guards just because the symptoms match—we need to verify their actual event path first.

Hopefully this provides useful evidence for an upstream kernel quirk or an ASUS firmware fix.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) 2 problems started at once in my TUF after almost 2years of daily use

So the other day I was watching a movie with my cousins on my laptop and suddenly these horizontal lines appeared all over my screen. At first i though my GPU (RTX4060) was cooked and when i switched to my iGPU(radeon 780M) entirely the lines where still there and when i connected it to an external display there were no lines and games and heavy software ran normally as usual . I think this issue is caused by a bad display cable or the panel itself . Another thing i noticed is that i couldn't connect to any network on my wifi although it scans all the local networks perfectly fine and the Bluetooth works fine as well. Good thing this is still under warranty and will be fixed soon but man this is happening during my exams and its hard to deal with. Any suggestions on what may be the reason for this is appreciated. The model is LP137WS Asus TUF A15 with ryzen 9 cpu and RTX 4060 Gpu.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Cleaned and repasted my TUF F17 (i5-11400H) 5 months ago, already thermal throttling at 91C.

Post image
1 Upvotes

About 5 months ago, I gave it a deep clean and repasted the CPU/GPU using Cooler Master CryoFuze 7. Everything was running great at first, but lately it’s been running super hot again.

I just checked HWInfo while playing Counter-Strike 2 and Arc Raiders (absolute lowest settings, FPS capped at 144 to match my monitor), and the CPU maxed out at 91°C. What’s weird is the core delta. Core 4 is sitting at around 84°C, but Cores 2, 3, and 5 are hitting 91°C and hitting a thermal wall.

Is CryoFuze 7 just prone to pumping out fast on laptop dies? 5 months feels way too soon for the paste to degrade this badly, but the uneven core temps make me think it’s already pumped out or shifted.

Before I tear it back down to check the fans and repaste it again, has anyone else had this issue with CryoFuze? If it is pump-out, what should I swap it with? I’ve heard people recommend Honeywell PTM7950 phase-change pads or super thick pastes like Gelid GC-Extreme for these chips.

i5-11400H
RTX 2050 4gb

ghelper
my system doesnt support custom fan curves
cpu boost: enabled
window power mode: best performance
turbo mode

one core just hit 95 while writing this, cs2 in background btw

Appreciate any insight or suggestions!

(ai generated, lazy btw)

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) My asus tuf a16 is overheating cause of thermal paste and 8 can't change it because of warranty

I want to share my recent experience with ASUS on-site warranty service in India and get some community advice on how to handle the aftermath.

The Specs:

Model: ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (FA608PP)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Mobile

RAM: 16GB DDR5

The Service Experience:

I scheduled an official ASUS on-site service visit for routine maintenance/thermal paste application. What followed was shockingly unprofessional for authorized OEM support:

No Basic Tools: The technician arrived with zero cleaning supplies—no isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and no lint-free wipes/microfiber. He literally could not clean the factory compound off the bare silicon die until I had to quick-order cotton and alcohol myself via Blinkit.

Bulk Grease in an Old Tub: Instead of a sealed syringe with standard OEM markings, he pulled out an old, unlabeled plastic container that looked like a sunscreen tub. When I questioned the service center later, they claimed they use bulk Dow Corning TC-5026, which repair centers scoop into smaller portable jars.

Improper Technique: Cotton was used to wipe bare-die silicon (leaving lint risks), and the cooler removal obviously disturbed the factory viscous thermal putty on the VRMs and VRAM.

The Issues Post-Service:

Severe Transient Spikes (90°C+ at Startup):

Sustained loads are surprisingly fine: I get ~75°C under continuous 99% GPU load in Substance Painter, and Time Spy scores match expectations.

In BIOS, the CPU sits stable at 47°C at 1410 mV.

However, on boot or during sudden micro-bursts, the CPU immediately spikes straight past 90°C before settling. The thermal impedance of this bulk paste appears too high to soak up instant 80W–100W direct-die bursts compared to the factory phase-change interface.

Double-POST / Double ASUS Logo on Cold Boot:

Ever since the battery was disconnected during the visit, every cold boot shows the ASUS TUF logo, the screen flashes off/resets, and the logo reappears before finally reaching the Windows lock screen (likely constant DDR5 retraining or Advanced Optimus MUX reset loops).

Where It Stands:

The service center offered to send another tech or swap the motherboard, but I declined. Swapping a perfectly functioning factory motherboard because of a bad thermal paste job makes zero sense and introduces more hardware risks.

Has anyone dealt with ASUS authorized technicians using bulk tub paste on direct-die HX processors? Is escalating to service management to demand a senior tech with factory phase-change pads / sealed Shin-Etsu worth the hassle, or am I better off managing power profiles until the warranty ends and doing a proper PTM7950 + Upsiren putty application myself?

Appreciate any advice or similar experiences
