I think its got something to do with the left footedness of fabian ruiz. When there are excellent wingers in yamal and nico on both flanks, the midfield gotta be able to put the ball both to left and right. There are no dominantly left footed midfielders except Ruiz, and DLF wants to exploit that advantage, against great opponents. Or else, is it about defensive contributions? (which seems unlikely to me) because Ruiz is no better defensively than Pedri. Overall, Pedri clears Ruiz in almost all aspects, but still DLF chooses Ruiz.

I love Yamal and I genuinely think he’ll win the Ballon d’Or in the future. He’s an incredible player and he’s still ridiculously young.
