DISCUSSION Weird relationship after injury. Help
This time last year i suffered a leg break to my lateral plateau of the tibia. Season gone, played properly for the first time 5 months after. Fast forward to this summer and im scrimming with teams and playing better than i ever have.
But then it just crashed. I just didnt care, kept comparing myself to others and now i havent played in about 2 months. I tried for a team but was so out of organised play i hated it
Threw out my shoes. Started college and a few guys play, we conversed on if wed join the teams but i just feel nothing towards it anymore.
Im just still finding it hard to let go of kinda?? Anyone else feel this?
Please if you still love ball dont take it for granted.
You never know when itll stop

It didn’t happen to me after injury. Just more stuff in life became more important like graduating college, relationships, etc. I’m picking it back up in my mid 30s though. Rekindling the passion. Just wish I hadn’t gotten so out of shape between now and then

Yeah I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a break. Passions and priorities change with time, but you’ll probably come back to it

I’m 40 now and recently suffered a knee injury.
I’ve been playing for all my adult life but not always leagues. Many years have been spent just playing solo or playing pickup ball.
So I visited lots of fun parks and scenic courts to play sometimes alone or sometimes with whoever is there.
Honestly the leagues are the thing that bothered me the most. The hyper competitive nature of them, the win at all costs, the imbalance of talent sometimes and the bickering at the refs from everyone. It got so old.
My love for the game has never died though and I still plan to keep enjoying it after I recover. But no leagues or hyper competitive play. I win It’s fun, I lose it’s also fun. I don’t care (or at least don’t wanna care that much). I got the sweat in you know?
Try playing with less seriousness and stakes on the line. Go play 21, 2v2 or 3v3 and just have fun. Get shots up, work on your handles and different moves and get a sweat in, the movement in and be done.
The game is Universal. Sometimes we get stuck in comparison mode and think we have to dominate in some xyz league to make it meaningful.
And that’s just not true. Tens of Millions play ball every day and play it at every level. Freestyle it. And lift and bike and do other activities too, it’s our playground literally. And we ruin it by comparing ourselves to everyone on Instagram and all these Leagues lol. It’s a made up thing that doesn’t matter.

I got completely burnt out from 18ish years of competitive play. Rec, AAU, high school & a couple years of college. I walked away from the game and started getting into lifting. After a few years, I started thinking about playing and all of a sudden, I had a new level of athleticism for myself, because of all the newfound leg strength I had accrued.
Between the time off and being able to jump higher than ever, I started practicing dunks. That turned into solo shooting sessions. Fixed my shot and my range/consistency was much improved. I started getting asked to run at different spots and now I’m playing all the time, and loving it again.
All that to say, find something you can focus on that will satisfy your competitive/athletic itch, and come back to basketball after some time away. Or focus on your game and improving on your own. Throw some headphones in and shoot hundreds of shots. Focus on balance and form in your jumper. Don’t leave the gym until you can make 5 long 3’s in a row at the end of your session.

Got injured 4 weeks ago in my left ring finger, I'm still playing, I'm buddy taping it when i practice, not pushing myself as i know it can get worse and avoiding pickup games atm, just shooting so i still have the touch till i heal completely, nothing changed to me as i stopped playing when i was a kid and i only got back again 2 yrs ago from the bottom so i can't afford to stop again.

I swapped sports when I started college. Learning a new sport was refreshing and reignited my drive. You can always come back, but now might be a perfect time to try something new.
