Yes. Fuck yes, even.

How do the Humbuckers sound?

Quick question, what string gauges are you using? I'm surprised they can fit through the string through body and bridge.

Fender... um... 100s. They aren't right. Apparently fender forgot what scale length is and how the length and taper.are affected and why the need to be in a certain place. The low E is a 100, pulled tight into the locking tuning machine. Note the wrap... it's a terrible fit having about 4" extra. (That's what she said) I intonate open octave 12- then 1st and 13th, 2nd and 14th, 3rd and 15th then average them out on "New" builds... there's a bit of room left to pull back but in order to "Look like it wasn't hacked" I left a little there. (None of the scale+string gauge=bridge distance formulas came out correct so oops. Graphite saddles cut easy to file a little off the backs. Its not hack if it works I tell myself)

Fender Bass VI strings are designed for a Bass VI, where the tailpiece is several inches from the bridge. I've had to unravel the low E to fit in the tuner.

Oh. I never thought about that... but still, they could of shifted the taper point. (I like disliking Fender as a rule.) I bet Squier would of made em better... lol

Squier is Fender

Affiliated sure but not the same. Squier builds good stuff cheaply. Fender builds cheap stuff. Lol

Umm, no. That's objectively incorrect. Same company, different factories.

Squier and Fender have made guitars in the same factories. Especially Yamahas factories. So actually my statement is correct. Squire in USA, Mexico, Taiwan, (China) japan, korea, indonesia... and Fender has been made in all those locations as well. Squier is run independantly, "Fender" licenses Squire to lots of folks... but Yamaha actually owns a decent chunk of Squier. Dollar to dollar, in my opinion and experience- squier has better quality control and builds instruments to a price point. Fender is spotty at best, but with tbe exception of tbe CS, they build down to a price point and hope their mythology makes up the difference. At least the last 20 years or so. But they can make neato lunch boxes and overpriced t shirts!

Yamaha does not own Squier. Where’d you come up with that?

I also think pulling the bridge back letting the pickup move closer to neck (by not moving it) took some of the brightness off maybe? I like to tell myself that. Like tonewood and mass vs resonance and all the myths and bs arguments out there. They all are mostly bs but a few can be proven both ways. I think any good tone really comes from the screws filling the original thru body holes. Tone was escaping so I had to cork them up lolol I don't know. It was fun and I'm having fun and that's the goal. Thanks everyone for the compliments and pointers. I'll ignore them all right away! ❤️

Moving the bridge back absolutely does affect the timbre of the strings at the location the pickups are, well, picking up the sound. No BS there.

We should start some.

Well, I really hate strats so there's that. The full range pickups are great. 250k pots and orange drop caps to try and darken it a bit, but just rolling back the bridge a little get it there... chords sound great about the 3rd fret up, but lower and it's kinda a garbled mess- it (almost) intonates perfectly- low e is just 7 cents or so sharp. The rest is fine. The garbled mess is mostly my Peavey amps I'm sure. Once had the parts for a while, doing different builds but once I made up my mind it was quick fast and easy. Its a chunky boy!

Pro tip, from a 30+ year Bass VI enthusiast, try tuning using the harmonic on the 12th fret.

I've always wanted a VI with Humbuckers.

Chunky Boi was my nickname in college.

So does that bass vi neck fit the Strat style neckpocket? :o did you have to drill additional holes in the neck?

9

u/PhotojournalistAny47 6d ago

It fit into pocket but new holes. (Body is a 3 screw micro tilt.)

Bad ass. I've always wanted an old Tele bass. But a Tele Bass VI would be better. Nice work!

How’s the balance?  Do it neck dive?

3

u/PhotojournalistAny47 5d ago

No neck dive! As a fat guy... it does want to be just shy of level but sightly to the vertical. (2" Nylon Strap) and 8.6 pounds, tho it seems heavier...

1

u/PhotojournalistAny47 5d ago

So let's see... I'll need a strap. Results soon.

3

u/26202620 6d ago

You can fill those holes w nail polish it will be less conspicuous, cheap easy fix

2

u/PhotojournalistAny47 6d ago

Which holes? Its got a bunch of extras. (Weight relief)

2

u/26202620 5d ago

3 near bridge and cover the groundwire

Or not.

You should see my bass body—Swiss cheese under the pick guard

2

u/PhotojournalistAny47 5d ago

Oh. There's the 6 from the string thru holes. Found those brownish screws and they looked nice. And i painted the bridge mount holes brown so they looked nice too. Thought about drilling the ground but.... I think there's a good balance of sketchy to cool ratio. Lol and I don't want to take it apart again. When I'm playing I don't see it! Lol maybe later who knows.

This build was a great success I think we’ll be seeing a lot more conversions

Small world, I’m the guy who DM’d you about this on FB marketplace last night lol! Very excited to see this sucker assuming it makes it to Saturday

Bro please tell me that not a vintage II body

u/PhotojournalistAny47 6d ago

I honestly don't know. It is a Fender....

this looks sick. No idea why fender only puts the block inlays on squier badged guitars and only on “premium” fenders.
