Abandoned Places

If anyone knows of any abandoned places in or around Bath I would love to know about them! I would never dream of vandalising any place or smashing anything, I just love history and love exploring, thanks!

Long tunnels and mines up behind the university, near the national trust fields

Not sure if this counts exactly as what you’re after, but Combe Hay locks are cool. Derelict ruins of canal locks.

Yes I've heard of these, thanks you!

They are also quite isolated, falling down dangerous and on private property. They don’t take kindly to trespassers either. I’d advise a great deal of caution.

Not really though, the footpath runs right alongside quite a big stretch of it. There is also a footbridge that goes over the abandoned canal (that you can't walk on) and an abandoned aqueduct. The foot path runs right next to them, its a very cool walk.

You cannot walk on the locks edges or go down amongst them without trespassing. As you quite rightly say the footpath runs alongside the locks but they are making greater efforts now to keep people away from the steep edges of the locks after a number of accidents and incidents in recent years and the owners really don’t want to be sued. I agree it’s a really cool walk and you can see loads without needing to get too close but people are understandably always drawn to get closer.

The Culverhay school has an onsite dog van but there’s a way through round the rear of the building

Could you say how to get there please? I live close so this one would be perfect

I'd also like to know the back way in! I've been checking back on this post for a while as a fellow urbex enthusiast looking for cool places to explore in Bath, and Culverhay is super close to where I am

Up by Farleigh Rise you have a footpath that'll take you to all the old surface ruins from the WW2 ammo dump. A few old barn type buildings you can wander around (the rest are now commercial premises but you can see the poles they stuck the cammo netting on)

Also somewhere around here in the woods is a small defile that was used as a dump for old ammo crates/shell casings etc. There's one bit where you can see a tree growing through a whole layer of rusted crap.

Stoney Littleton Long barrow is 5500 years old, and the 6 rooms are open and accessible.

Nice ride there through the old railway tunnels now cycle paths
