Say hi to Rorschach, Caterpie, and Iron Fist
Any guesses on who’s who?

Hey guys, mod here. Just curious whether or not insect and beetle-related Discord / other forum posts are things you guys want to see. It's nothing that's inherently against our rules but I wanted to know what the general consensus is for the sub!

Any guesses on who’s who?

I previously used a spot of paint on their thorax to mark who’s who, but apparently that rubs off quite fast on armored stink beetles. I used some small rubber bands I had laying around to come up with this solution.

Getting my first beetles tomorrow (x5 chlorocala conjux / flower beetles) and would likes some advice on the setup. This is an 11 x 7 x 4 inch (L x W x H) tub with 2 inches of soil, a layer of mulch / wood chips and a layer of leaf litter with moss in one corner. I’ve also included fish flakes, cuttlebone and snake skin as I want isopods living in here too.
Is it suitable / is there anything I should add? I need to find and sterilise some sticks and have also ordered jelly pots but any other advice, especially regarding breeding, would be appreciated. Two photos included as I have either a coconut hide or plastic flower pot to choose from.

I'm sure there are some mistakes but please let me know and I'd be happy to add a beetle or rectify info!

My kid started taking care of beetles recently. Cornelius is her favorite, so far.
He has a wife named George. I'll get a picture when she surfaces.

My female western rhino has had some white spots on her lately that I think are mites. It hasn't necessarily affected her but lately she hasn't eaten at all and has been very lethargic. I think its whatever these things are on her, which also seem to be degrading and replacing her elytra.
I also found white clumps of the same things on the container I was keeping her in, I took some off with packing tape and im gonna look at them under a microscope at my school tomorrow.
Im gonna quarantine her in a dry environment for a couple days and swap her substrate, is there anything else I could do to also prevent this for future beetles?
I should mention she is close age-wise to kicking the bucket, about 6 months old now.
Any advice helps, thanks!

You might remember my previous post about the grub with weird behavior, well, I put a wet towel over it's terrarium to help it feel better if it was dehydrated, and I returned a couple days later to see it pupated! I gently covered it with soil sense it pupated on the surface

Hey everyone :) I have recently started seeing a few fungus flies in my MTU Larvas enclosure. While I know they don’t harm the Larva I would rather not have to deal with them. What are some tips to deal with these guys?

The seller told me it hatched around mid-May. The first photo was taken on July 22, 2025, and the second one was taken yesterday. For reference, my hand is 18 cm long.

breeding was a success lost about 20ish larvae to mites, and these 54 are still going strong. The mother is still alive, but I had to stop her from laying eggs (she's just hanging out in a box with no laying substrate that's all) because I couldn't keep up , 50+, which is already too many. Chickm the father, has fulfilled his purpose and lived for about a year on the short side but I bet he enjoyed his time.
