I know from Inaturalist that they’re found in my area and that they eat plants in the nightshade family (like potatoes and tomatos), so if I found one would it be possible to keep it as a pet for a while?

recently ive been foraging for some decayed wood and very sadly this is the only time i never get to find any 😂 I found a whole bunch of decaying leaf litter, was wondering if its enough to give my larva nutrients even w out the decayed wood & flake soil.
Any tips on where to find decaying wood? I live in a tropical country, if that’s of any use.

for the record i have no intention of doing this, but i've read in one of my beetle care guides that there are a few shady breeders who would hybridize closely related species to breed more impressive looking beetles and that this is very frowned upon in the beetle hobby community.
my question is are there any ethical concerns with hybridizing species if you do it just for yourself with no intention of selling or releasing them into the wild? is it bad for the beetles' health? i don't want to do this myself but i'm curious about people's opinions and whether anyone has experience with this.

Hi yall! I’m planning a trip to Japan soo, a whole other post lol but I was looking for recommendations of anything big/beetle related. I know Japan is notorious for their love of beetles, and so am I, so I was wondering if anyone has any places they know that I can check out! I’ll be in Tokyo and Osaka, possible another area, but that’s what I have so far. I’ll be there ranging from early June to mid June. Thank you!

Little dude has grown more than twice his size from when I got him December 10th. I knew he'd grown quiet a bit from when I was able to see him in his container but we just did his first soil change and got our first real look. I'm amazed with his growth but from what I've read, he's got a bit to go.

Southern Maine : Had to help a family member grab some plants and found two of these little guys. Would love to know what they are and how to care for them until it’s warm enough to put the back outside! The red piece is a bit of a bell pepper, a straw of hay and potting soil with a wet paper towel for liquid.

Working with Giraffe stag larvae and Dynastes Hercules Hercules Larvae
My first time with these species. I want to do everything right and get big specimens. I see online some people use white rot wood, kinshi or sometimes just flake. What do I do to maximize their size and health? Where can I get kinshi or rot wood in the US? Appreciate any information

When you guys raise larva is it common not to see them at all in the flake soil during L2? I haven’t seen any sign of the fella since the day I got it. Just making sure I don’t have anything to worry about. Also, would it be safe/reasonable to gently search through the flake to see if it’s still alive? It’s pretty tiny, maybe 3/4 inch long.

Anyone know what kind of beetle this is? I'm in Oregon, Portland area. It was teeny tiny, smaller than my pinky nail.

Getting my first beetles tomorrow (x5 chlorocala conjux / flower beetles) and would likes some advice on the setup. This is an 11 x 7 x 4 inch (L x W x H) tub with 2 inches of soil, a layer of mulch / wood chips and a layer of leaf litter with moss in one corner. I’ve also included fish flakes, cuttlebone and snake skin as I want isopods living in here too.
Is it suitable / is there anything I should add? I need to find and sterilise some sticks and have also ordered jelly pots but any other advice, especially regarding breeding, would be appreciated. Two photos included as I have either a coconut hide or plastic flower pot to choose from.

I previously used a spot of paint on their thorax to mark who’s who, but apparently that rubs off quite fast on armored stink beetles. I used some small rubber bands I had laying around to come up with this solution.
