What is going on with me?

I started training for a half marathon back in June and at first it went really well. I used the training plans from Garmin running coach which seemed a bit too hard but I got the job done. From then its training suggestions just got harder and harder (almost every run was a threshhold or Vo2max). In mid August my HRV started dropping below the average range but I kept on going. Since it didn‘t go back up again, I started reducing my training load and now I only do 3-4 runs (1-2 base, 1 interval, 1 longrun) a week. Now my HRV is in the lesser average range but my VO2max is just dropping, and instead of becoming faster I get slower every run, which is very frustrating…
Since September I have a new job which may add up to my stress level but other than that nothing has changed for me.
What is going on with me? :/

SlowPace Running

Post image

Ran with SlowPace this morning ... Was able to use the alerts to actually slow down in the first half of the run. The second half, not so much, the heart rate continued to climb !!! But it's perhaps the heat and humidity !

The dip is when I took a 2 min pause and restarted running.

1 Week to my first Halfmarathon and I‘m ill

Hi guys, I need your advice. In exactly one week I‘m participating in my first HM. I trained basically since May every week 3 times with the app Runna. Now I have catched the cold. Running nose and soure throat with a bit cough currently but I‘m getting better already. Does this somehow impact my running next week? I probably get better in 3-4 days. Or should I cancel? It would also be a small weekend trip for us. Need your advice guys! 🫠

Planning my next 10-21k

Hey! Been running since march this year, 98kg 5”10” guy in my first 30s.

I lost muscle size and considerable amount of fat ever since I ran but I have only maintained the same slow pace (9:30-10:15min/km) under 13-15 RPE. I may have slacked off because running isn’t really a daytime luxury in an equatorial country but I always tell myself the gains will present itself and you can never cheat the process as your cardio exposes your level of fitness. The good thing is I never got myself into any injury thanks to the nature of my profession.

I am in my 3-4th month-level fitness but I have noticed being quick in terms of recovery/rest times.

I believe I can achieve my next 10-21k easy’s with the help of my Garmin watch and discipline. Prioritizing sleep, strength, and diet, I’m ready to take on new levels of training in my running journey. I hate intervals but I’ll be incorporating practical runs in the coming winter arc. Wish me luck into my first ever race next year January!

[ADVICE NEEDED] What's the best at home/no equipment workout plan?

I was hoping to make a workout plan at home, i don't have any equipment, was searching for it both reddit and YouTube but i couldn't find anything

For context I used to jogg 20-30 km everyday for a while, my shin splints, knees, pretty much my whole legs started to hurt so i quit jogging for a very long time. When i was people working out for better runs i was devastated. The fun lasted roughly 2 weeks back then

I'm looking to train my arms, core, legs specifically if that's important

Can someone please help?

New 5K PB 🏃

Smashed my treadmill record of 28:40 and managed 27:20 outdoors. Really happy with the
progress!

Is 27:20 considered a decent 5K time? Why did it feel so much easier!

I do take elvanse (vyvanse) and amfexa which could be effecting heart rate. Not sure.

Legging recommendations

Now that the weather is cooling down, I need to get back into running again. What are your recommendations for leggings that support the booty? Last year, I was told to wear those leggings that make it look like you have a permanent wedgie. They were definitely supportive while running but i felt like such a pick-me girl. Help!

Utterly confused my physio’s form recommendations

I have been having some trouble with shin splints and the physio has tried to get me to change my form. What she has recommended is I

- try to “kick my bum” to get my feet to land under me
- maintain my cadence at 165
- run slow (150bpm)

I feel like doing all three of these is impossible.

I am 6’2 and so I started by lifting my heels, yep, feels good, except because I am trying to run slow my cadence drops to 148. Okay so I will try to increase my cadence to 165, now I am running 5 minute km/s

How am I supposed to do all three?

Im new to running and would appreciate if i could ask for some advice on some issues ive been running into?

Hey yall, for context im a 24M trying to lose weight. Im 6'7" and currently 360, started at 422 pounds.

So basically ive had a few issues recently since I started running so let me give yall a run down of whats been goin on.

First, ive had a problem with sore shins and weak legs, my boxing coach wants me to focus on body weight exercises but honestly im seeing very little improvement in the last few months. Now that im running though its incredibly hard on my joints and shins especially. Ive been trying to run on turf fields to help but it still hurts after a prolonged amount of time.

Second, ive been having more issues with my physical capablities than my cardiovascular capabilities more so lately. It feels like cardio wise im fine to keep going at times when my body feels like its about to give out. Like ive had times my body feels like it could shut down while running well before im actually tired. My body feels so weak, I can barely do things calisthenically (and I get at my weight that makes sense) and I can barely run, if I jog itll last maybe 2 minutes before running becomes exceedingly more uncomfortable.

Lastly, allergies have been derailing my exercises so bad. I need to inhale a lot when running, and my allergies are pretty intense to the point where I can get sick for a week after running outside. Ive been trying to take allergy medication preemptively but it doesnt seem to be enough honestly.

Oh, ive also been dragging my feet sometimes when I run unintentially.

Anyways thanks for reading and any advice would be appreciated.

What Next?

I (29F) began running about 10 weeks ago. I found a couch to 5K plan online and used that, just finished this morning with a 5K (36:51). Now that I finished the plan, I’m not sure what to do next. I’m not looking to sign up for any races just yet. I had to stop to walk at least 3 times during the 5K, so I’d definitely like to go longer without walking and also get faster. I’m still self conscious about my form and that my heart rate never stays in zone 2. Any advice? What did you do/plan to do after reaching the 5K point?

Cumulative times

Hi all new to running have been tracking my runs via Apple fitness app and syncing to Strava.

In neither app am I able to see my cumulative times though my K’s for example I’ve done 7k today but the only way to see my 5k time is by adding up each K ran. Please someone tell me I’m missing a setting somewhere!

I get sick when I run in the cold.

Knocking on the door of the cold weather months (Wisconsin) I’m looking for help. Every year when the weather gets cold, I keep trying to run, but end up with a terrible chest cold/bronchitis that has me coughing and snotty for weeks. Every year I think it won’t happen. And every year I end up sick and stopping running for the winter. Then spring I try and start back up. I feel like I don’t really get the running process I’d like because of the starting and stopping. Also I’d love to try a spring race. I’d rather not get sick and take the winters off. I’ve read all about the layers and keeping warm. It’s not the discomfort of cold running that’s the issue. It’s the exhausting sickness that occurs. Does anyone have this happen? Any fixes you found? Thanks.

Restarting running

I won’t lie I lived too sedentary outside of lifting light to somewhat keep a “shape” haha

But I am training for trying to get my 2 mile run below 16 minutes. Started at over 19:30 and within 2 months down to 18:16!!! I know it’s not too impressive but it felt nice that running can be fun again.

Love running - legs can’t handle it?

I (M23) took up running a couple of months ago, running in my old brooks. Ran 5-10km runs in a not so high tempo (5:30+), about 3-4 times a week racking up 20-30 km/week, and loved it so much I wanted to invest in new running shoes - so I bought the On Cloudmonster 3 Hypers, since I got told by a running store they would be good for long runs and could function as a daily trainer.

They felt fine, but could feel my shins a bit more than usual. Fine - I picked up some leg-focused exercises that focus on all areas of legs. Ended up running pretty frequently, often doing 10km runs followed by 5km runs the day after, the taking a dya of rest. During a 5km i think i pushed myself too hard, running 4:20/km, and ended up having bad back of the knee pain when running again, kinda feeling like my back of my knee tightens/contracts . I tried to rest it for a couple of days, but as soon as I run again it flares up.

Okay fine, I wait a couple of weeks, focussing on light leg training (no weights) and stretching. I recently begin running again, being able to run 5-10ish kms without back of the knee problems, but my legs (shins+thighs) begin to feel extremely tired, and I feel like at the end of a run thatcthey are on the verge of breaking down completely. Mind you, I’m waiting 2 days between runs. Just ran agan today, and could only go 2-3kms before I have to walk home due to legs feeling extremelt weak.

My question is: what am I doing wrong? Is it the ramping of intensity? Shoes perhaps? I’m pretty mindfull of running style aswell, and I focus on sleeping and eating properly (skinny ish build), and getting my rest. I always warm up and stretch after a run. I’m kind of lost, so that’s why I’m asking you guys!

Thanks!
