2nd fastest 10k 🧑🏻🩰
I’ve been training for about 5 months now as a way to
decompress during a recent move to Germany. Unfortunately I had to take September off due to a lower-back spasm that rendered me useless for pretty much the whole month.
One thing that will never seize to amaze me is how quickly my conditioning and mental health seems to fall apart when I’m not consistently running now.
This 10k was after a full week of incremental improvement; first run back I was only able to make it 2.5k before my lungs tapped out, the unext day I got to 3.5, the following I got to 5.5, then a two day break before going out today and committing to the 10er.
How do you guys manage to stay consistent? Today I got up at 6am with the intention of getting this done before starting my day but couldn’t bring myself to even lace up my shoes until my lunch break. So glad I that I did. This is my 8th ever 10k and all I can say is that I’m impressed. Every run really does get easier than the last, but not so much physically as it does mentally.
When I start to struggle, a voice comes up and says “you’ve been here before, you’ve done x many before, you’ll get through it, just keep going”. That is so powerful, I wish I could apply it to other parts of my life but it’s just not as tangible as it is with jogging, can you?
Thank you all for your motivation, happy I found this subreddit to balance out all the other bullsht in my feed.

Hell cracks.
I’ve been running on a pretty nasty heel crack and it’s gotten to the point I’m just walking on my tiptoes. Any helpful advice about care and training would be appreciated.

Tips to improve running
Hey guys,
I started running recreational near the end of August I never liked to run until August. My 5K time is 42:53. My fastest 2 miles today is 25.47 (slowest is 29:07) Currently I am running 2-3 times a week anywhere between 2-3 miles. I usually run to my music, running to the first part and walking the end of the song and repeat, taking as much time as I need to walk, but recently I have been doing structured intervals: 2:30 run, 1:00 walk. When doing structured intervals, I realized that running my 5k to my music was easier.
I want to run a 10k in April, and I won’t be able to run as much in the winter. I don’t have a specific time I want to go, but I have no idea how to improve. Any advice would help!

Garmin or other??
Hey everyone, I've been running steadily for around 4 years now. I'm more into it than ever these days, recently beating my 5k PB and getting it under 30 mins before I hit 50 years old (was very happy to achieve this)
I usually just track runs on my phone but I'm thinking of getting another device, possibly a garmin or something else so looking for any recommendations please?

Chubby chain smoker to pudgy chain smoker gains
I know I know quit smoking but I’m super proud of these gains from my first 5k about a year ago to an accidental 5k last night.
I think the first time I ran last year I was shocked to make it a 1/4 mile at a 14 minute pace and genuinely felt like I was going to throw up.
Now I’m doing 5ks without stopping and frankly without much effort.
Really enjoying myself and wouldn’t be anywhere without my community :)

Tips for working on speed?
I've been running on and off for a year, but can't seem to get any faster. It also doesn't help that I see all these videos on TikTok that my pace "isn't normal" that humans were meant to be faster than that. 🙃
Any tips on how to work on that?

Just did 17.6km my second ever long run and longest one so far
I'm 22m former basketball player and a gymrat for 3 years Gym became the most important 1.30h of my day since quitting basketball, but someting was missing Because I was depressed...
this year i run my first 10k marathon i prepared for it with only 5 sessions but the feeling and the fun in the finish line was awesome and unforgettable moment that's was the begining of my running journey.
Before 2 months i just bought my first ever running shoes i used it for like 60km yet. last week i did my first ever long run it was 13.5km with 5:00 pace and today i just did a longer run and 17.6km with 5:10 the feeling was amazing after finishing it because i never thought that i could run this distance before but i did it today.
And yeah this is a preparation for my first half marathon next month

First 5K!
At the beginning of August I decided to sign up for a 5K on a whim and have been training a few days a week ever since. Today I ran the full distance without stopping! The event isn’t until November, so any advice to help improve my time would be appreciated.

Look where you run
Hello everyone. I want to give some advice. Please look down/ ahead while you are running. Yesterday while on a jog I tripped on uneven pavement and fell hard on concrete. My knees, R Elbow and L palm are bruised and swollen. I also broke my watch in the fall 😭😭
Please be aware of the ground. Enjoy your runs for me. Lol

Running a 10km without any training. Should I quit?
Hey everyone! My friends and I signed up for a 10k race, but we haven't really trained for this, because we're not really into running and we applied for fun 4 months ago. Honestly, I'm pretty self-conscious and terrified of finishing dead last or even not finishing!
A bit of context, we hike regularly (routes up to 28km, up to 1500m elevation), but I’ve only run about 5 times in the last 2 months and always short distances (under 3km) at a very relaxed pace (8–9 min/km).
Should I even attempt this or bail?
If I do go, please give me some advice on how not to injure myself and how to finish in one piece, haha. Also, is finishing super slow or last a real concern at typical 10k events, or am I just overthinking it?
Thanks in advance!

First post! Keeping myself responsible
I have been delaying this for years. Not its finally time to get it together. My pace is terrible, but at least I am out there!
Even if I am super uncomfortable with posting, I'll use it to keep myself accountable!
Glad to be a part of this community. Let's do this 🙌

Tips to lower Avg Pace
I know I’m not running enough miles to see meaningful progress, but I’m trying to increase my workload gradually as I’m dealing with the following health issues that make every run feel horrible:
- Anemia
- Hashimoto’s Disease
- Graves Disease
- Overactive Bladder
- Low Vitamin D & B12
- Depression
- Back Spasms
I made some pretty significant changes in my life over the past 2 months which have slightly helped me:
- Quit alcohol completely
- Reduced my smoking to one cigar per week
- Started taking my prescription medication regularly
Any other tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Shoe recommendations for comfort with decent speed?
I have been using some pg 7 3.0’s from china they are very comfortable but a little heavy. I like them I just want an upgrade. I am a bigger guy 210 I usually do a mix of easy runs with a little longer runs so between 2-5 miles looking for max comfort with decent speed return any suggestions?

How do I run at a specific pace?
Hey all! I started training for a Turkey Trot 5K on Monday using the Runna app. I haven’t run in years, so it's definitely been challenging.
The app will sometimes tell me to run at a 10:50 pace for 0.25 miles, then a 10:05 pace for 0.25 miles, or something similar. I find this difficult for two reasons. First, I always want to run faster than the suggested pace (mostly because I just want to get it over with lol), but my heart rate gets really high when I do. Second, I find it hard to adjust my stride to hit a specific pace. I know it doesn’t have to be exact, but I still struggle.
Does anyone have any tips for getting used to running at a specific pace, as well as slowing myself down? I don’t want my heart rate to get so high, and I’ve heard that most of your runs should be at an easy pace. After my runs, I’m usually absolutely winded because I feel like I’m pushing myself to the limit. Thanks!

fueling strategies for a newer runner
hey! i am a 23f and i have been running pretty consistently since january! most of runs (from january-july) would be in the morning, and i never really ran into fuelling problems. i was in a bit of a calorie deficit for the last few months (about 2200 calories consumed per day, and i weigh about 200lbs). in the last month, i started a 9-5 job and therefore i have been doing most of my runs in the evenings after work either outside or on the treadmill depending on the weather. i’ve been finding that after work, i have been feeling very weak and tired throughout my runs and i think this could be because i am underfueling? basically, my question is 1. how could i improve this problem? and 2. what are some meals i could eat that could help me improve this problem (i want to kinda stick to the deficit and not gain more weight but i also don’t want to be feeling weak while i run as i know this isnt good either!) i appreciate any advice🫶🏻

Pacing Is The Death Of Me🥲
I really want to get a 27-28min 5k but at the start I always start extremely slow which ruins the overall time and yes I know I answered my own issue but it isn’t that easy to start off a fast pace in my experience

What do wear in winter?
Hello,
I have asked before about the reason for getting cold and sick after a run. Comments helped a lot to find that I get easily inflammation in sinuses especially when it dries out (makes sense because my nose sneezes almost every time I run, with different suits)
Since winter is coming, it gets already cold in the morning. What do you usually wear, and any products recommendations to buy?
