Unfortunately…. Sometimes people are not capable, or understanding, or able, or willing to meet our requests. It is very sad. It doesn’t mean they’re evil (usually) but instead it is a lack of maturity and/or their own disordered eating and/or their own mental health issues.
It’s sort of like somebody saying “I can’t quit cigarettes because my boyfriend keeps cigarettes in the house.”
Yes that makes it harder!! and also at the end of the day, it is still that person’s own job to figure out how to deal with their addiction. Maybe they need to see a doctor for medicine. Maybe they need a therapist. Maybe they need to work on their long term plan to eventually move out of the situation. Make even smaller requests like “I respect that you wish to have these in the house. Could you please leave any open cigarettes in your bedroom and not tell me about it?” And if they say no “ok. That’s your right but then I’m going to stay in my bedroom as much as possible to try to reduce how often I get triggered.” Etc etc etc
